A Donkey Update

Posted by F&S

Hey everyone!  It's Clive, Rufus, and Billie filling in for F & S while they're still away in Maine.  Gosh!  How we miss those bold little Frenchies, who like to bark at our feet.  They better watch it or they just may get a good kick one of these days!  Anyway, here's a little update about Billie's condition and what's being done to correct it.

While the dogs are still in Maine, we thought we'd give you an update on Billie!

If you recall, Billie is in danger of foundering, a serious hoof issue, due to overeating! Betsy has been browning the grass in one of the paddocks so Billie can still get exercise but not be tempted to overeat the lush, tasty grass.

The large tarps covering the grass have been removed, leaving not very much behind! A layer of topsoil will be spread over the dried grass.

A small fence has also been installed to section off the browned area. There's still plenty of room for Billie to get some exercise!

We, donks, are not work animals on the farm. Donkeys are often used for many tasks that require physical labor, like pulling carts or wagons.

But, we feel very lucky to be Martha's beloved pets because we like to play a lot more than work! However, play leaves us too much time for eating!

I'm optimistic about my recovery and so happy to be surrounded by people who care for me so well! I guess eating isn't everything!

  • Get better soon Billie.
I think all three of you are so cute and I love seeing photos of your life at Martha's farm. You make me smile. Good to see you again on the blog. Happy weekend
    Pam

  • Good morning Donks,
It is so good to hear from you. Billie, you should check and see if there is a Weight Watchers Donk Style. You better cut down on things or you are going to have health issues and we don't want that to happen. Karen said she was in your stall with the three of you, Jan and Betsy. She said the three of you are so sweet. She loved visiting you Donks.
Hey Pam from California, good to see you comment again. How are things going for you?
I hope the girls and GK are having a great time in Maine. And, I also hope we hear from the east of the Glue Squad today. You know, Martha has guests doing her blog once in a while. If they run out of animals to post while they are in Maine, they should have a Glue Squad member guest blog once in a while. We could send a few pictures and captions to go with them and write a little story about the theme of the day. Would that be kool or what? Yeah. Well, it is nice and breezy this morning so I am going to enjoy it and will check back later
    Enjoy the weekend
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Back again,
I should proofread my comment before I send it. I meant to say that I hope we hear from the rest of the glue squad today, not the east of the GS. I know we are spread out all over the place Dah.
    Darn fat paws.
    Maddox

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
It’s hard to believe that anyone could get fat from eating grass. I have tried the stuff and don’t like it much at all. All I did was, excuse the expression, “barf” it back up. I guess that if you are a donkey, grass seems like something good for you to eat. Cows eat grass and boy are they big. I saw a moose eating grass one time, boy was she big. Well, I guess that eating grass is a good thing for some animals, just not the thing for me. Didn’t get to post yesterday; Daddy was gone and the computer was turned off. Don’t you just hate it when they do that to you? Have a good, and safe, weekend all.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hello Billie & all the Donk Buddies,
Billie, I am so glad you have Betsy, Martha and all the Bedford gang to help you loose weight. The new area that was covered looks very nice. Where do you run and play when it is muddy or snowing? I know, I bet you have your own tredmill. Pam, we are so lucky to hear from you,and Baby Favor earlier in the week. One lucky week. Hope all my Glue Squad buddies have a great Friday. Maddox, you are always thinking---a donk weight watchers---hehehehe!! It was cooler yesterday, almost like fall for a few days. The night camera caught a skunk and raccoon meeting. They paniced and ran from each other. I hope those raccoons find another tree to live in once we get a puppy. Any maple bars in the works Cora Belle, and what about busy boarding and duck watching? I am waiting to hear. Miss Zoe, and Chloe, have you girls been partying at the Jersey Shore? Where are you? Have a great weekend.
    Hugs & smiles,
    Lynn

  • Hi Clive, Rufus, and Billie, How fun it is to see the three of you beautiful donkeys giving us a wonderful blog post today! I do miss F,S,&GK but seeing more of the three of you is fabulous! I love all of your photos and your comments! Billie, my prayers are with you to lose more of your weight ASAP so you will be healthier very soon! Maybe some day you will get to go to Maine, too! Pam, great to hear from you! Maddox, I love ALL of the comments you share and it's fun to figure out what you are saying sometimes-you are a terrific character! Kirby, I love to eat grass, too, but I always barf and Mom tries to make me stop doing that! Glad you could comment again today! Lynn, sure glad it's cooler where you are! It was in the 90s here yesterday and will be again today-way to hot for me! Will check back later to hear from the rest of you Glue Squaders! Hope all of you have a great, safe weekend! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • I have no doubt that you will be back to your ol' self again very soon Billie. You have so many people and animals that just love you to bits. MommyM will make sure you are back to good health in no time. I hope everyone has a lovely weekend.

  • P.S. Pam it's great to see you back here on the DW!

  • Hey Guys!
You know, as much as I think the girls are cute, you guys are really too much. Keep that happy face going Billie! You've got lots of people to take good care of you. Oh, and keep a stiff upper lip (it makes it harder to graze).
Have a great weekend everybody. We have a elderly cousin coming that really isn't into canines. That's o.k. I still sit by her. he,he,he,
    Til Monday.
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • Be still my donk-a-fied heart! :)

I think Billie has the "Lays" tato chip syndrome, 'you just can't eat one'! :)

I certainly don't want Billie experiencing any health issues. Actually, I want all the farm critters to be happy and healthy!

I really have to try that tarp idea. I figure maybe if I covered the Peanut M&M's I won't be inclined to nibble on them all day?

    Wonderful Blog! :)

    Have a super weekend..
gail (aka) donk lover from NH! :)

  • Hi gang,
I am back again only to say I am shocked. I cannot believe that Gail, the biggest Donk fan in this group, did not comment today. Gail, Gail,Gail. We might have to put you in a time out chair for a while. Donks, I am sure your # 1 fan has a good excuse and if she doesn't, we will have to deal with her Glue Squad style.
    Hehehehehe,
    Maddox

  • Billie, we hope you will be back in top shape in no time! I think you three should have a donkey wagon for a leisurely departure from the Kawasakis that are regularly sued :)

  • ..hi everybody..Billie, you will be just fine..Martha is doing everything just right..you naughty little donks are like mini goats..eat everything in sight if not watched closely...oh no!..the chiweenies are coming to stay for the week-end, their owners can't go out in the heat, so we said they could stay with us...they are bringing their new favorite toy..a black and decker weed eater box..they run thur it like a tunnel at least 90mph..goofy chiweenies..Lucinda says it can be right here in the living room..Chiweenies!..what next?...maybe they will leave my toys alone..we are all going to the river when it cools down..chiweenies are wearing their life vests..I am going au natural..we are taking beverages and snacks with us, wish you all could be there, people pals included..stay cool my dog friends..love you all, Cora-Belle

  • Hello Maddox, Billie, Lynn, Kirby Bear and my glue squad buddies-
Hope Billie the cute donk feels better soon! I like to see the donks at the farm.
Have to rush here because yet another thunder boomer is coming and I will be hiding! VERY TIRED today after running free yesterday for two hours in the beautiful new dog park near us. Mom was so proud of me making new dog friends, running and smiling. Today i can hardly move! Oh well- Mom was switched from night shift to early shift for two days so she is out of it too. Lynn, enjoy seeing your Alaskan traveler men and thanks for remembering James Dean. he is being VERY good for a persian and likes brush downs now. Maybe he can text Kitty about brushing. Hotdogs and beans tonight with the Sox game. Hugs to Maddox, Dudley, Rebel, Lynn, Kirby and Missy Chow. Peace out- Abby

  • Oh, my, did that last sweet faced pic not clinch it??!! He looks soooo happy! Loved it!! Um..how 'bout some good exercise for losing the weight?

  • Ok Gail, I just checked the DW this morning and I see that you did post a comment. My comment about you didn't go through yet so when it does you will say, I did comment, what is he talking about. So now you will understand it all and we will officially take you off of the hot seat
    Maddox
PS - still haven't heard from some of the Glue Squad. What's up with that. Hey Rebel, move right next to that person that doesn't like dogs You can win the person over

  • I pray that all will be OK with you Billie! I have experienced this with my dear pony...when I lived in Missouri I had a Vet that lived down the road, I believe his name was Doc Robinson or something like that, he was an elderly gentleman who was a famed Saddlebred Veterinarian and breeder of many years ago. He told me he invented a shot to cure founder and he used it on his horses. Sadly I did not get to find out if the shot worked because the Vet passed away and I don't know if he passed on the formula.

Hope your weight loss will help you...

Hee Haw, Hee Haaw, Haawww I can hear you guys braying now ;-)

    delia & kitty =^. .^=

  • ..wow, it is gray and dreary out today, my kind of day..what a change from yesterday..thought I would roast...good day to load the chiweenies up on the trailier..(i hear the tractor starting)..and go for a cruise around the farm/ranch..yippee!...love, Cora-Belle..p.s. chiweenies are naughty just like me..they zip around the house at nite spying on things..I growl at them and they settle down...

  • I really like this blog. I'm a big fan of Sharkey.
I really enjoy your animals and farm. Thanks for keeping it cute!
