More Dog Adventures in Maine

Posted by Sharkey

While we were at Skylands, our home in Maine, Martha did a lot of Entertaining.  I like to sit below her while she is eating, in hopes that she might share with me.  Oh well, I guess it is a little obnoxious, but isn’t that what dogs are supposed to do?  When it became apparent that she wasn’t in the sharing mood, I suggested that Francesca and G.K. join me for an outing into town.

Aw, come on, Martha! Can't you drop me just a tiny morsel of your lunch? It smells so good.

Sigh, not even one tidbit! I guess Pierre's peekytoe crab salad is just too good to share with the likes of us.

Come on, Francesca! Let's grab GK and go out on the town. We need to find something constructive to do!

Ah, the lazy days of summer...you know what, Franny and GK? Why do we have to be such lazy dogs? Maybe we should get summer jobs! Let's go check out the shops and see if anyone is hiring!

Hi boys! Francesca, GK, and I are looking for some summer jobs. Can you point us in the right direction?

Sharkey, how about this shop called Winter's Work? There's something about it that gives me a good feeling.

No wonder we had a good feeling about this shop, Sharkey! It's owned by Sue Hill, whose son, Peter Jones, is Martha's property manager at Skylands!

And this is Peter's wife, Marla! Franny, Peter knows how hard-working we are. Do you think he'll put in a good word for us?

Sharkey, you and I would be good at this job. The shop sells a selection of gifts and crafts, many from local artists. Why, I'd say this is right up our alley!

Hmm, Francesca, I'd say that with Peter's mother, his wife, and his two sons, Zachary and Lucas, already helping in the shop, there probably aren't any positions open for us. Maybe we should stick to being lazy customers!

  • Good morning everyone,
You three look like you are having a great time in Maine. I wish I could go to Maine again. I loved it there. Next time tell Pierre in advance that you would like some lobster and I am sure he would put some aside for you.
Cora-Belle, I will have to go on the internet to see what a Boston Whaler looks like. Heck, James should take Lynn's husband and son out on the boat for fishing. They would love that.
The gentler side of Zoe. That is something to think about. hmmmm..... Just kidding Zoe, I know you love Nicole. Maybe your mom could rent her for the summer so you have a playmate. Abby, do you go with to the boarding kennel everyday? Karen's is right by her house so she doesn't have to travel to go there. Rebel, how is the bunny watching coming along? What comes after the rabbits? Kirby, I hope your tail did some more healing over the weekend. Dudley, are you still having bad weather? I hope not. Missy Chow, you should behave a little. I am not saying you have to be good all the time. But, if they put you in a crate and send you back to Texas, who knows if you will be able to post anything on the DW anymore? That would be sad if we couldn't hear from you. Look at Chloe. When she gets sent to Boot Camp, she can't post anything. She is too busy doing push ups and stuff like that. Kitty, what are you up to this morning? I guess I will have to check back later today to see what you guys did over the weekend.
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Good Morning F & S

Now why would you girls want to work?? There is so much for you go do at the farm and in Maine I'd never get bored.

Sharkey I'm with you I sit right under my mom's chair when she is eating but rarely do I get a taste. However, when Nicole comes to visit I'm planted right under her chair. Yesterday she shared her breakfast with me a tasty piece of bacon - YUMMY!

I had a wonderful weekend. Mom laid by the pool and worked around the yard so that meant lots of time with me. The weather was beautiful but now today it's hot and humid again - oh well I guess I'll be in the air conditioning with dad all day.

  • Hey Maddox Kitty here! =^. .^= I just came back in the house and mommie delia brushed me, most of my fine hairs (third layer) are almost gone and I look different with the fur shorter for the summer, so much better in this heat. Thanks for asking Maddox...smooches & pruuuurrr in your furry face!

OK, delia here {*_*} now you Stewart pups, I have a hard time feeling sorry for you not getting some morsels of crab...I mean come on, really? You guys are lucky enough just to be the pups of MS. but I understand when something smells good and you'd like to taste...I don't care for crab, or I should say crab doesn't care for me...ha ha ;-)

Anyone see the baby Sloth named Sharkey on GMA? so cute.

I pray all our Glue-Squad friends had a wonderful weekend...Good Monday Morning to all my G.S. human friends here. :-)

    huuuugs,
    delia & Kitty =^. .^=

  • Hello Ladies & Glue Squad,
It looks like you three are working up quite a pant. My fav is #1 whre you look cool. Frenchies wilt in the heat, and poor G.K. out job hunting in this heat. Just stay home and enjoy the air conditioning. It has been record breaking temps here in Colorado for June and now July---the hottest on record. I don't enjoy heat. You know me,cuddle and snow. My hubbie set up a camera on a tree out back for at night time, and guess what he caught on camera---5 raccoons!!! One had been killed recently and the fur remains left, so I knew there were only 5 of the 6 that Basil and I saw left. How could they ever have doubted us? We had my daughter for her 34th birthday dinner last night and it was fun. Maddox, at the Glue Squad Olympics perhaps you should be the commentator. I think that would be perfect--you always know what to say. Zoe, glad you and Nicole had fun in the sun over the weekend. Off to craft land to work hard. Will check back to see what everyone did over the weekend. Cora Belle, you could win the gold for Maple Bar competition. Have a great day gang.
    Hugs & smiles,
    Lynn

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
The weekend is over and now it’s back to normal around here. Just what is normal? That’s a good question. It seems that Mommy and Daddy have something to do each day which takes them away from home for hours at a time. That leaves me in charge of the house; yeah, great. I don’t even sleep good when I’m in charge. They will be at home more this week so I’ll be able to catch up no some of those naps I’ve been missing. It seems that the older they get, the busier they are. Oh well, each of us have our “duties.”
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hi F,S,GK+ Glue Squad, You three dogs sure did have fun in Maine this time going to that nice shop and seeing the mother, sister and 2 sons of Peter Jones who is the property manager at Skylands! I'm sure they would love to have you help them out! Sharkey, my Mom always gives me something when she is eating even if it's just one of my treats! Maddox, we did have a cooler, kind of wet weekend but it's supposed to be a bit warmer today. Lynn, Happy Birthday to your daughter yesterday! Hope all of you great friends have another great day! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Good morning G.K. & ladies,
I'm with Zoe here. Why on earth would you want to work? You do so much on the farm, you need a few days off when you go to Maine. I know, you were getting bored...
We had a work-at-home weekend. Company coming on Friday. Mimi cleaned a closet & ran into an old trunk from the 60's that has her teen years in it. So many Beatles bubble gum cards (that explains all the fillings in her teeth) & magazines. A chain made of gum wrappers that is long as her old boyfriend was tall, etc. It's time to get rid of it all. What to sell & what to toss. Someone will want the trunk.
She says it is tough to toss the gum wrapper chain though, it's so pretty. Beeman's pink & Wrigley's yellow, white & green.
I sure had a great time outside with Papa. It was so much cooler for a couple of days.
    Til tomorrow.
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • The Three Dogateers,
It looks like in one photo you are all waiting for a bus to take you on your next adventure. I hope the weather is nicer in Maine then the heat of California wine country where I live is.
You all look healthy and happy enjoy your adventures with Martha.
Have a wonderful week ahead everyone.
    Pam

  • The dog days of summer is right.

Hey, Sharkey, I'd join you right under the table. Martha serves such delicious looking food, who could resist a crumb of this and a crumble of that!

The Winters Work shop sure looks charming! :)

I really like the knitted stockings that were displayed on the wall.

    Have a super Monday!

  • Ladies and G.K. I appreciate your wanting a summer job but really just enjoy yourselves when you are in Maine. You do plenty of work around the farm. The dog days of summer (hasn't it been like that all month?) are just around the corner.

Nothing like spending the morning doing a system restore on your computer and needing to re-install programs and updates. Ugh but now it's done! Have a wonderful day everyone.
