Being the dogs on the farm, Francesca and I feel an instinctual need to protect our territory. So when we notice something awry on the farm, we have to track down the cause!
Now, where was it? Was it over here?
Or was it over there?
Sharkey! What are you doing? You look confused!
Francesca, I've been noticing a lot of strange holes in the grass and I'm trying to track the animal that's making them!
Many of them seem to be underneath the bird feeders, so I'm guessing it's a small animal that likes to snack on the birdseed that falls to the ground.
Oh Sharkey! I think I found one of the holes you were talking about! Over here!
That's one of them, Franny! Now let's both smell it to figure out what type of animal is making these silly holes! Many animals dig holes to hide food for later.
You can often tell what type of animal it is by the size of the hole. I would venture by the size of this one that it is likely a squirrel.
Although, there has been a pesky chipmunk coming around here for the sunflower seeds. He's more likely to dig smaller holes the size of silver dollars, but let's keep our eyes out for him, just in case!
