Frenchies on the High Seas

Posted by F&S

While we were in Maine, Martha took us all out in her Hinckley Picnic Boat for the first ride of the summer season.  It was a glorious day and there were many sailboats out on the bay racing or just tootling about.  We Frenchies got to talking about sailing and perhaps setting off on a sailboat to see the world.  Oh well, it’s fun to dream.

I just love the feeling of the air through my fur and all of the salt air smells! Don't you, Franny?

I certainly do, Sharkey! I also enjoy watching all of the sailboats around us. Did you know that sailing has been around since the beginning of the Middle Ages?

If you think about it, the invention of sailboats had a huge impact on the development of civilization! Sailboats helped people travel distances for the purpose of exploration, trade, and fishing!

Nowadays, most of the sailboats we see are for recreation. Many modern sailboats have engines for backup, in case the wind dies or to get back to port quickly if the weather turns bad.

We should get a sailboat, Sharkey! We could go wherever the wind would take us!

GK is always talking about being a great explorer, Sharkey! The three of us could sail around the world together! Discover uncharted waters!

That sounds interesting, Francesca, and I hate to spoil your fun, but I'm pretty sure all of the water has been charted by now!

  • Hello girls,
Wow, that must be awesome to go out on Martha's Hinckley Picnic Boat with her. Did you see any seals on your adventure on the open waters? Was GK by Martha's side to learn how to handle the boat himself? I bet you all had a grand time.
Delia, a big congrats to you regarding your news about being cancer free. Waa Huu!!!!!!
Cora-Belle, that is nice of you and James and Lucinda to take care of your little neighbors even though it sounds like they can be a pain in the butt.
Zoe. when is your dad getting his surgery? Rebel, how did Mimi make out doing her gardening in the heat? Keep an eye on her. People start working outside and they forget how hot it gets. Kirby Bear, I am sorry. I didn't post eary for two nights even though I was up. I just think about too many things and then before you know it, I forget to go to bed. I think I should get an assistant. That way, the assistant can keep track of things and tell me when it is time to go to bed, etc. Yes, I think that is a good idea. See, here we go again. I am thinking so hard about it and now I have dizzy head again. Oh brother. I am going out on the deck even though it is raining. Maube it will wash the think cells off of my head and then it won't be dizzy anymore. hehehehehehehehe
I will check in later. Another weekend with nothing planned on this end. What about you guys?
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Ahoy F & S! well look at you two, just sailing around with mommie martha...what fun! :-)
Nice to see GK there underfoot. Sounds like a great time you lucky dogs.

Yesterday after the rain it was nice and refreshing, not hot but nice enough to pull some weeds in the front yard, it looks so much better without the spent Hosta blooms.
Thanks Lynn for checking up on my C problem, it's always a concern for me since both my parents passed from cancer at the early age of 60.

Karen, Jan, Sonya, Lynn and the rest of the Glue Squad, including the fur-balls...Cora-Belle, Rebel, Abby, Zoe, Missy Chow, Chloe, Dudley, Kirby Bear, Maddox and of course F & S and GK...you all have a Wonderful healthy and safe weekend.

If I have forgotten anyone it was not intentional, I have not had my morning cup of Java yet, and my pea-brain is not at full capacity ;-)

Hugs to all including 'smooches to the pooches' :-)

    delia & Kitty =^. .^=

  • Why don't you Frenchies wear doggy life jackets?

  • Good Morning F & S

I'll tell ya you girls have the life no doubt about that :) My mom use to have a boat she likes to fish. She sold it before I came into her life so I never got to sail the high seas.

I was very disturbed watching the news this morning with mom - some whack job went into a movie theatre and started shooting - what the hell is wrong with people?? Lynn I hope that shooting was not close to where you live. I'll tell you one thing being a dog and having a protected life is the best. I can't imagine what would make someone do that - just crazy.

On a much better subject my buddy Nicole came over swimming with me last night and it was so much fun. I chase her around the pool while she is swimming then she shares her juice bag with me - I just love her :) Mom took a really good picture of her giving me a kiss and she sent it into the DW so maybe they'll share it - it's the loving gentle side of the Zoe Monster ;)

I'm looking forward to the weekend mom and dad have no plans except to hang around the pool and relax - yahoo!!! And the weather is suppose to be really nice that horrible heat is leaving for a few days which will be wonderful.

Well have a nice weekend Glue Squad - F, S & GK I'd tell you to have a nice weekend but every day of your life is a weekend :)

    Zoe

  • GOOD MORNING AND AHOY Francesca, Sharkey, Mama Martha and G.K.'
Glad to see the frenchies enjoying a trip on the high seas! Looks like great fun!!
I had to catch up for afew days and read how my glue squad buddies are doing. Delia, great news about your thyroid cancer being gone. Hugs for you and Ms.Kitty. rebel, are you checking out the baby ducklings today? Welcome back Cora belle, the Explorer! We loved reading about your adventures and the open gate story that ended with food. I wish we could all meet up with you for some maple bars and barking at critter time, dips in the river too.
Zoe, I hope everything is going well for your dad. I hope Lucinda's back feels better. Lynn, what events can we compete in the glue squad olympics? maybe t.p. crafts, critter synchronized barking, back rolling gymnastics? Maddox, are you sleeping in today? Missy Chow great work on your training and congrats on certificate weekend. I am sorry to hear Chloe is back at boot camp. Kirby hope your tail feels better. I have been off for a few days, many more dog boarders at work. Mom is taking me tonight. I will spin around with my hair up barking so they think its a tasmanian devil, not a frenchie pug. Cora belle, you would be proud!
Enjoy a safe weekend and good sailing!
Abby and James Dean the rebel persian cat

  • Morning ladies,
Wow, what fun the boat must be! Lots of great smells, yes, no, maybe?
Just to let everyone know, Mimi has recouperated from pulling the weeds, not from the heat, but from all that bending over & getting up. She needed some aspirin therapy for sore muscles! Back to the gym for Mimi.
My ducklings are now flying & don't need me anymore. That's o.k. I'm now on rabbit watch now.
Hey Abby, that's my trick, too. Raise up that fur & spin around barking like mad. We little ones have to make all the fuss we can to look menacing. Seriously!
    Have a great weekend everybody.
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
Riding on a boat looks like fun. I didn’t get to ride on my Daddy’s boat before he got rid of it. One neighbor blocked the driveway so he couldn’t get the boat out of the driveway.
All the police would say is that they are parked legally; nothing we can do about it. Now that the boat is gone, they park in their driveway; go figure. I say some people are just mean; let me at them. I’ll show them a thing or two about Chows; first off the teeth. I wouldn’t have to be like Rebel and puff up my hair and run around baking. Heck, I look menacing enough already. And if that doesn’t do the trick, one of my deep growls usually does. Have a good weekend all; and be safe.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, I just love this latest blog with you beautiful girls, handsome GK, and wonderful Martha & friends on Martha's Hinckey Picnic Boat up there in Maine! All of you look so happy and it's easy to tell you are having a blast! I've never been on a boat and it sure might be a lot of fun! Cora-Belle, so happy to read your comment so early today! You are a great friend who helps others! How's your weather today? We are having a very wet thunder storm this morning! Maddox, you are certainly a worrier and I hope you get rid of your dizziness real soon! I do love all of your ideas! Delia and Kitty, never want to loose either one of you! My Mom's Dad died of cancer at 71 and her Mom died at 85 with demencia. Zoe, you certainly are being a much calmer, nicer person! Hope all is well with your family! Abby, sure glad you are back and hope you and Mom have a great day at work today! Hope all of you great buddies have a wonderful weekend and will check back later to hear from the rest of you buddies! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Hello Ladies & Glue Squad,
Riding the high seas---it looks so fun. The breeze in your fur, the smells in your noze. What fun with Mama Martha. I bet you are all enjoying her now that there is no t.v. show. Fun to be together lots. Abby, I think you have the events down pat for the Glue Squad Olympics, but now another event should be added now that Rebel is rabbit watching. I will be working hard tomorrow and doing a family dinner Sunday for Sara, our daughter's 34th birthday.

By now, I know most of you have heard about the terrible tragedy in Aurora, Colorado, about a half hour from me in Lakewood. I ask you all say prayers for those affected, many still in surgery.

I hope everyone has a great weekend and I will check back just to make sure things are going well and hoping Cora Belle gets lots of Maple Bars--you too Lucinda and James. Those sound so good, I wish I had the recipe for them.
    Hugs to all,
    Lynn

  • Oh how fun!

    Sea fearing pooches! :)

Did Martha let you commandeer the boat? :)

Did you fish? Stick your paw in the water?

    Skinny dip! :0

    Have a wonderful weekend cap'ns!
    gail

  • A sailor's life looks very good on you three. The open water does all of you well but...life jackets please F & S!!!

Delia yay no more cancer. Blessings to you for a healthy life here on out. Rebel what a good boy you are to see your ducklings into flighthood. Saying prayers for the victims of the senseless tragedy in Aurora, Colorado. I hope everyone has a safe, relaxing weekend.

  • Hi F&S,GK and Glue Squad, It certainly looks like everyone is having a great time sailing. GK sitting up front, you girls taking in the view and keeping things in check. What a fun way to enjoy nice weather, fresh air and spend lots of time with family & friends.

Congrats Delia on your excellent report, bet that was a huge relief. Zoe, sounds like you had fun with Nicole, and she shared her juice bag,no cheese curls?? Maddox, you do need an assistant so you can leave them notes of what to do and you can sleep at night, don't get too dizzy! Abby, if you go with Mom to work, keep everybody in line, less work for Mom to do. Cora-Belle, your adventures have been fun to read this week, glad Lucinda is feeling better. Kirby, sounds like your tail is getting better.

Well, almost didn't get computer time today. What do they say, when the cat's away...well you know the rest...I was a very busy chow last night after Mom and Dad went to bed. You see, I got Mom's ivy plant in the living room, and left the traces on the floor; then back to the p.t. this time in the bathroom wastebasket - Dad found that this morning and cleaned up before Mom saw it. She REALLY wasn't too happy with me during the week either, she said something about crate/return to Texas and I wasn't listening to the rest but decided after partial selective hearing I better settle for the night the other night. Not sure if a full moon is near or me just being me and looking for trouble. I'll have to think about that one.

Hope everyone has a nice week - Happy Birthday, Sara!

    Till next time,
    Missy Chow
    xoxo

  • ..wow..bet the whack-o in Colorado tortured small animals when he was a kid..that seems to be a M.O. for that type person..sick SOB!..enough of my ranting..Missy Chow, I salute you, being naughty 24/7..cattledogs probably get the naughty award..at least I would!..Happy birthday to Sara..eat a piece of cake for me and the Chiweenies..(yes, the little pests are still here)..Yes, Kirby, a lot of mean spirited people out there, you and I could teach those neighbors a thing or two, they don't call me an ankle biter for no reason...Rebel, rabbit watching..that sounds fun..those guys are interesting...good for you, Abby, spinning around and barking..good girl!..All my feral kitties say hi to James dean...Zoe, lucky you have a cement pond..I just have a river and have to share with otters, ducks and beaver and other misc. critters..Maddox, I need an assistant, too, sometimes I head to the kitchen and forget why I am going there..and down the driveway..which now the gate is shut and wonder where the heck I am going...could tell my assistant and and they could remind me..oh wait..I have the Chiweenies..but those guys are crazy then me...they are happy visiting..they run around au natural..unless we go to the river..then we dress them up in their life vests..I told the coons to stop laughing at poor little guys!..must eat a Warrior Prince cookie before they are all gone..over and out..Cora-Belle

  • It looks like fun to be on that boat, Raven Baby, but I got a little concerned because you and Sharkey were not wearing life jackets. Accidents can happen even to the best of sailors and Frenchies can't swim.
