Francesca's Sleep Study

Posted by Francesca

I'm sure you all know how much dogs and cats like to sleep, but have you ever noticed where?  I thought I'd put together a little study on how and where we on the farm like catch our Z's!

Being pack animals, we often sleep next to each other for security. This is why we often sleep next to a wall or on your feet—to feel secure!

Empress Tang often sleeps in the large molcajeta in the kitchen. It's a cozy nook to curl up in but also high up so she can pounce on prey.

You might notice we do funny dances or roll into weird positions. It's our way of getting comfortable. In the wild, we would have to push down leaves and dirt to make a comfy spot.

  • Good morning everyone,
A sleep study? That is a good subject as we all love to sleep. This is where we have an advantage over humans. They sleep thru the night and then they are up all day doing all sorts of things/ We sleep at night, get up, walk around eat and go to sleep again. We can sleep whenever we want to, isn't that great? hehehehehehehe
Lynn, what would you do if you saw a big foot on your night camera just walking through your yard? You would have to make an emergency phone call to Cora-Belle so she could chase it away over the phone with her barking. You better keep her number on speed dial just in case cause you never know what is out there at night.
I was thinking again. I think we should all get art lessons from Delia. Then we could take our artwork to Martha's peeps and they could arrange for it to be on display at some fancy art gallery. They could advertise it as Glue Squad Gone Artistic. hehehehehehe
You know, Chloe must be flunking her classes cause she has been gone a long time. Can we get any tutors for her?
Well, I am headed to the deck. I will check back lqater to see what everyone was up to this past weekend.
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Good morning Frannie!
Lovin' your sleep study. I "see" myself in lots of these pictures. There is a chair in our family room that I love to sleep on. I love to snuggle up next to whomever is sitting there.. I like to sleep in Papa's closet, too. It is cool & dark & nobody can see me. he,he,he....
    Have a great day everbody.
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • Oh you sleeping beauties! how cute you all look even the Gato's, but I was spitting out cat hairs looking at those photos in the bowls...yuck! (did you think I was not going to mention this?) ;-)

So G.K. I noticed a shaved spot on your forearm...are you OK??? are you having treatment for Lyme?

Maddox what a great idea! I would love to teach you and our G.S. friends to paint! I have an idea, why don't all of you doggies and kitties do a painting (I can instruct the how-to) then get them together for an event or auction for Animal rescue or what ever would benefit Dr.Pia and/or MS animal causes. :-)

I do hope everyone had a great weekend, our weather was nice enough to keep the windows open at night bringing in fresh air...and I heard my first ugly Cicada, few and late...the Geese are already practicing their flight for fall, I think everything is so messed up from this weather...but the rain did perk up the corn and soybeans...Thank You God!

Sweet Kitty brought me two mice this weekend, how delightful :-(

OK my Java is calling me! ;-)

    Till later...

  • Hello Ladies, G.K. and Glue Squad Buddies,
I love seeing you all in your relaxing spots. Even all the cats look so relaxed. Basil had beds all over the house---I bet you all have beds in every room. Speaking of cats, it is very interesting to see the goings on at night on our outside camera. This the same crowd, 5 raccoons, 2 skunks and 1 black cat. The cat is the smartest of the bunch as he knows the camera is there taking his photo. He stops as the photo is taken and poses and looks and says hello, and he is off. The raccoons and skunks are not as smart. I think the reason they are coming so much and live in the big 100 year old cottonwood, is they know there are no dogs in the yard. We need a big foot Maddox to scare them off.

I hear you all have qualified in your respected categories for the Olympics. I know you will all get golds.

I would love to be a student of Delia's Maddox, but fear the four legged kind would do better---more paws to paint and learn. Everyone have a great day, and I will look forward to hearing of your antics on the weekend.
    Hugs & smiles,
    Lynn

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
It was a great weekend for me; no thunderstorms here but it did rain just a tad. What is a tad you ask? Just enough rain to get the sidewalk wet but not enough to water the grass. Nice study on sleep today. If you had a sleeping contest, we Chows would win paws down. I can hardly stay awake long enough to make this post. Daddy says that most dogs like to ride in airplanes, but don’t try that with a cat. They will become frightened and run wildly around scratching at everything. When Daddy was flying, he used to have some passengers coming from nightly horse races. Some had a little too much to drink. Daddy always put them to sleep; five thousand feet and they went to sleep like babies. The alcohol and thin air causes one to be very sleepy. He calls that one of the tricks of the trade. Speaking of sleep; nap time.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Good Morning F & S

Very interesting study. Precious and Sophie are always sleeping together whether it's in a bed or just curled up on a throw rug they are too cute. T-Bone is a loner and I guess being the only male he likes to sleep alone. At night he sleeps on the floor right next to mom. I on the other hand prefer the sofa during the day I like to nuzzle in the pillows and at night you know where I'm at - WITH MY MOMA :) I have to touch her at all times. I like to spoon against her neck and lay my head right on the pillow and snore in her ear :)

Mom decided to take off today and I'm SO happy. We slept in late and she made dad a nice breakfast. She said she needs a R & R day she had guests all weekend. I'm glad she is home I plan on taking a few naps with her out on the lounge chair.

Well I have to go find her I feel a snooze coming on ...

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, How wonderful to see how well all of you sleep at Martha's home in Bedford or in cars! You girls look so darn cute in every photo you shared and I love seeing GK, Empress Tang, Vivaldi, and Bartok enjoying their sleeping places, too! I have lots of great places to sleep and my favorite is my Martha pet bed-it is so comfortable! Sure hope all of you great buddies had a great weekend! We had a pretty good time until late yesterday afternoon. My sweet little dachshund friend, Lady, was on her way to visit me and for some reason she got out of her Mother's car and ran down the street and was run over by a car and they had to take her to the vet, but she died so I never got to see her. My Mom told me what happened and I was terribly upset as was everyone else. We do know that our great buddy Basil and our Cricket are helping take care of her now and our prayers go to all. She was only 2 years old. Sure hope all of you buddies have another great day and please stay safe! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Nothing makes me smile more than seeing 'loafers' on the farm!

The picture of Tang is adorable! :)

Love GK's fancy pants move to find a comfy spot!

    Sweet Dreams Sharkey!

  • ...what cute sleeping photos..Dudley, I am so sorry about your pal, Lady..we doggers forget to look left and right..I feel really tired right now, so I am off for a nap, over and out, Cora-Belle

  • Snoozin' the day away in the Summer time. That sounds perfect to me. Dudley I am so sorry to hear about your pal Lady.

  • Dudley,
I am so sorry to hear about your little friend Lady. How awful. I bet her mamma was devastated and probably the person that hit her. I am sure that person didn't mean to , it probably happened so fast. Please tell all concerned that we send our condolences. I know they are very sad right now but let them know that our little Warrior Prince Basil is in charge of welcoming all Glue Squad relatives and friends to the Rainbow Bridge. He, along with our other family members who are there with him will take care of your special little friend, Lady. Try not to be too sad Dudley and remember we are here for you
Delia, I saw GK's leg also. I am so much hoping that this picture of GK was taken a while back, when he had Lyme disease. I truly hope that my boy is not sick again. My heart hurts when one of my kids is not feeling good
Zoe, I am so happy you get to spend this extra time with your mom. I hope the both of you enjoy the rest of the day
    Love,
    Maddox

  • I can't sneak anything by you guys! Those photos of GK are old and are back from when he was treated for Lyme's Disease! GK is super healthy right now, so no need to worry about him. I've been collecting these photos for my sleep study for a while now!

    Love,
    Francesca

  • Dudley,
I am just checking back on, very late. I am devastated to hear of Little Lady's passing. Please know that I am sending hugs and loves your way and to Lady's family. We all know our very special boy, Basil is greeting her, along with all his pals. I am thinking I should get a crate for travel for the new pup someday, and just get them used to it. A friend's lab was saved when he had him in a crate in his truck inside. How do you all travel? Let me know what you think for the future. Dudley, you are such a dear, I know you will comfort your family and Lady's with lots of love and licks.
    Hugs to you,
    Lynn

  • Francesca,
That is perfectly fine to take pictures and use them at a later date. GK was in a goofy position that day and it was a good shot. You can't expect him to do that same pose every day. And the most important thing is that he is in good health. Thank you for putting a caring dad's mind to rest. You know how I am when I think too much
    Hehehehehehe.
    Thank you girlfriend,
    Maddox

  • Those pictures were all bery cute, old and new, Raven Baby. Even though sometimes my sister Demi and I don't get along, we will often sleep together in our favorite red bed, which is one of your MarthaMom's ones from PetSmart, actually (and there are 4 of them in our house, that's how much we like them!!!) Millie likes to sleep in the red beds, too, but almost always winds up hanging half-way out because she gets very warm every quickly. It's pretty funny when she does that.
