Francesca's Sleep Study
Posted by Francesca
I'm sure you all know how much dogs and cats like to sleep, but have you ever noticed where? I thought I'd put together a little study on how and where we on the farm like catch our Z's!
Dogs like beds as much as people do, but it's not just for the comfort.
Being pack animals, we often sleep next to each other for security. This is why we often sleep next to a wall or on your feet—to feel secure!
Empress Tang often sleeps in the large molcajeta in the kitchen. It's a cozy nook to curl up in but also high up so she can pounce on prey.
Vivaldi often claims this large bowl that usually holds fresh eggs from the chickens.
Though most of the time, Vivaldi fights with Bartok over this basket of blankets. We pets often find something that smells like you to sleep on so we feel comforted until you come back!
You might notice we do funny dances or roll into weird positions. It's our way of getting comfortable. In the wild, we would have to push down leaves and dirt to make a comfy spot.
The kitchen floor can be nice to sleep on in the summer as it helps us keep cool.
Sharkey and I are always on the go, so we're used to sleeping in moving vehicles, like the Kawasaki.
Every time we are in the car, Sharkey immediately falls asleep! She says she finds the motion to be soothing.
Often, because we're such jetsetters, Sharkey and I will get to fly! Sharkey loves squeezing in next to people.
I usually like to find a cozy lap to snuggle in.
And, like clockwork, as soon as we start moving...
Sharkey's out like a light!
