The Mounting Blocks at the Farm
Posted by Sharkey
Now that Francesca’s eye is back to normal, she certainly has a lot to catch up on around the farm. The other day, she found out about the new storage building that’s under construction and I also told her about the stonework project that’s going on. And speaking of stones, we decided to have a good look at Martha’s mounting blocks.
1 Hey, Sharkey! It's such a beautiful day. What is that chiseling sound that I hear? What else did I miss while I was out of commission with my eye ordeal?
2 Oh Franny, that's the stone mason, Carmine and his crew. They're installing a big project behind the Summer House. I'd show you, but there's a lot of stone dust and heavy equipment, so we should stay out of harm's way!
3 You remember Carmine - he's the fellow who is responsible all the beautiful stonework here at the farm.
4 That's right, Sharkey. Carmine built all the stone walls, terraces, walkways, stairs, and even the stable!
5 He also found this amazing stone block for Martha, which she uses as a mounting block when she rides the horses.
6 It conveniently has a step up, making it easy to mount and dismount the horses.
7 And it's cleverly positioned right next to these hitching posts, so Martha and Betsy can tie up the horses.
8 You know, since we're so interested in this mounting block, let's to and take a good look at the one located near the stable.
9 Yes, this is a beautiful granite specimen. This used to be at the driveway entrance to Martha's Turkey Hill home and when she moved, she liked it so much that she brought it here to Bedford! It's a perfect mounting block!
10 Sasa, if I were able to find a mounting block high enough, would you take me for a ride?
11 Hmmm, Sasa didn't seem to take to my idea very well. No matter, I'll go find an activity more suited to my Frenchie stature!
