Off to the Races?

Posted by Francesca

Sharkey and I went to visit our friends, the donks, and we found them running around in their paddock.  We got to wondering who ran faster, donkeys or Frenchies?  What we didn’t expect was that Billie, the spotted one, was so full of facts.

That doesn't look so fast to me, Francesca! I bet we Frenchies can outrun them!

Sharkey, let's see if the donkeys can settle this for us. Hey donks! Over here!

Francesca, I see Billie is wearing her fly mask. She is very diligent about that, unlike Clive and Rufus, who keep pulling theirs off. I don't know how they can stand all those pesky flies.

Why hello Francesca, hello Sharkey! You might have seen that Rufus, Clive, and I were just racing around our paddock. Now that you have our attention, what can we do for you?

Hi Billie! Francesca and I were watching the three of you run and we were wondering, who do you think would win in a race? Frenchies or miniature donkeys?

We Frenchies may have short legs, but we also have a lot of muscle! Look how fast Franny can sprint!

Sharkey, I know you two are very proud of your breed, as you should be, but the fact remains that donkeys can run faster than most dogs.

Miniature donkeys can run upwards of 30-miles per hour! And, if I'm not mistaken, I've heard that most dogs level out at about 19-miles per hour.

Excuse me, Clive! Don't forget about greyhounds! Those speedsters can run up to 45-miles per hour! That's way faster than donkeys!

Hmmm, you have a point, Sharkey. So, while donkeys would beat Frenchies in a race, we would all be shown up by greyhounds!

You know, some people do race their donkeys, but it doesn't seem like much fun. Good thing Martha's not into it! Billie, Clive, and I just like to run for fun!

And they're off again, Sharkey!

I don't know, they still look a bit slow to me, like they've been munching on a bit too much grass! I still think that you and I could definitely take 'em!

  • Good morning girls,
I think you should have The Amazing Race to find out who is faster. Put a squirrel at the finish line and let Francesca loose. hehehehehe
How is everyone this fine morning? Don't forget that this Friday after we discuss the topic of the day we can do the Tribute to Dad thing. Not much going on today. As a natter of fact, I think I am going to go back to bed for a while and maybe when I wake up a whole lot of you guys will have comments on so I can check them out.
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Good Morning F & S

I'd bet my dog treats that a Frenchie can run faster than a Donk any time. Mom says I run like a bat out of hell. My ears go back and my little legs just take off. I run especially fast when I sneak out the front door and she is chasing my around the
cul-de-sac :) Oh and when that happens the names she calls me aren't very nice - right MOM!!!

I had to sit her down this morning and have a long chat about my computer time. She either has to start getting up earlier or going in to work later enough is enough. I need time to chat with my Glue Squad buddies EVERY morning. So that being said here I am :)

Franny can you blame Clive and Rufus for not wearing their fly masks? You know how you hated your lamp shade just imagine your entire head in a bag!! Not for me I hate anything on my head.

Well I feel like getting into some trouble let me go see if I can find some TP ;)

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
What a day yesterday was. It rained a little before seven AM; just enough to wet the trees. Then it was cloudy the rest of the day until eight thirty in the evening; then all heck broke loose. In less than twenty minutes it rained three quarters of an inch. Glad it was a short one; the ground is wet enough already. I haven’t looked at the weather may today; I’ll just take it hour by hour today. I don’t know why no pictures today, but I’ll bet that I’m faster than both of you and the donks too. At 10 years old, I still can run with the best of them. Maybe we could get together and find out who is the fastest. Maddox would surely take the “fastest channel surfer” award. Heeheeheehee
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • I love those Donks!!! they look like a bunch of fun equine..what ever made mommie martha get Donks? I had watched an event with small donkeys being used for a basketball game...funny as all get-up or giddy-up :-)

I have to say watching Frenchies run is fun as well, with those little bitty legs.

Zoe is getting in trouble with TP...oh my! Kirby a bit of rain is good, send some to Colorado and New Mexico, they need it. Maddox sleep the day away!

Got to run...Kitty is screaming outside with another cat or maybe a raccoon...will go check.

    delia & Kitty =^ ! ^=

  • Morn' ladies,
Those donks. As you can see, our entire Glue Squad love the donkeys! I betcha that you two could give them a run for their money! Throw Zoe into the mix and the 3 of you would have those guys so confused that they just might sit down on their donkey rumps & give up! LOL Can you just see a field of Frenchies running around?
Hope Kitty didn't get tangled up with a Coon!
    Til tomorrow.
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, WOW! Racing with those great miniature donkeys and you beautiful Frenchies sure would be fun and I could run pretty fast, too! I would love to talk to those donkeys because I love to be around lots of other animals and people, too! It's so fun to see you girls having more fun around the farm everyday and I would love to see handsome GK. too! Maddox, hope you have a nice nap! I always get up very early and have a great nap after Mom gives me my delicious breakfast! Zoe, nice to see you comment early again and can't wait to see what kind of trouble you get into later-you little devil! Kirby, I know how you feel about that horrid rain because we get a lot of it just like that-stay safe! Will check back for more comments later! Hope all of you great buddies have another wonderful day and stay safe! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Hi Francesca, Sharkey, Maddox, Rebel, Dudley, Zoe, and all the glue squad,
Great fun seeing the girls speak to the donks today. i bet you both could outrun the donks, especially with their fly masks on. Zoe must be a speedster too if she can outrun her mom out the house.
Hope Kitty is not tangling with a raccoon! Rebel, any duck chases on the agenda? Zoe did you find the tp? I never pay any attention to paper products but go in search of people food a lot. Maddox, did you get a good nap? I sacked out all morning because its a work day and I will be barking at the boarder dogs at the hospital later.Athena, the gorgeous shepherd and I keep them in line. Kirby hope you have some of our sunshine, tons of rain earlier.
Lynn, hope you are alright in Colorado and hugs to you. Off to catch more zzzs. I ran all around the park yesterday. Love ya- Abby the frenchie pug

  • Morning Girls & Glue Squad, You've been busy, posting on the strawberry harvest, currant harvest and now the donks. You're doing a great job; keep up the good work.

Delia, Mom is a little late in commenting that your painting of Warrior Prince Basil was outstanding, beautiful work and we all know that he must be smiling down. Lynn, he was truly handsome :) Rebel, intermediate class was interesting, there is only one other in the class and we are learning to heel & working on distractions for the present time.
Zoe, Dad shared a couple of cheese curls with me today; yummy! Maddox, I had a few days of good behavior until yesterday afternoon when Mom had something on the counter for dinner, it was there one minute & gone the next when she left the room. Well, I got caught "red pawed" with it in my mouth, she wasn't happy and she let me know it. I thought it was my 8 month old surprise dinner, not!!! Oh, I did find some pt the other day too, not much. Guess I have to start the good behavior day count all over again.

Raining here in the NE today so a good day to rest & relax and maybe stay out of trouble. Lynn, hope the fires are starting to get under control.

    Till next time,
    Missy Chow
    xoxo

  • One more thing, DDR, hope you had a terrific birthday celebration. I dictate and my assistant types, but she didn't catch my last comment, I'll need to speak to her. :)

    Later,
    Missy Chow
    xoxo

  • Lynn,
It looks like the wolves evacuated in the news were from the W.O.L.F. sanctuary. They took out some and the others are hiding in underground dens. I hope you are alright, maybe the firefighters will be able to contain the fires now in northern and southern Colorado. Tracie, Abby's mom
I wonder what the glue squad thinks about those underground dens?

  • Leave it to the boys to not wear their fly masks. I bet Billie laughs at them when the flies come around. It is so good to see the two of you back to normal having your regular farm fun. How is big boy G.K. doing? I just read in Discover magazine that acorns should be removed from the area if you want to reduce the chance of catching Lyme Disease. The mouse that the Lyme Disease carrying ticks love to attach themselves to loves acorns.

Delia my apologies for not commenting sooner on your beautiful painting of dear sweet Warrior Prince Basil. You really did capture his sweet, courageous soul.

  • Hello Ladies,
I am a bit late today, lots on the schedule. Billie, you show those boys who won't be bit because she has a fly mask on, and they will be all bit up. Boys, silly, silly. I have to thank you all for your assistance on my catsitting. Tracie, I have been over about 6 times here and there and you would have thought the cat knew me. The owners came home this morning and said she wouldn't even come out to see them for awhile, she was so mad they left her. I just wish they would have prepared me better for cat behavior. Thank goodness for you all. And Tracie, we need to get you your own Cat Whisperer show. The owner didn't even know some of the things you told me. So Maddox, I am happy I didn't have to use the duct tape. Send the rains to Colorado The wolves that were saved were 12 in packs of 2. I guess it was tricky getting them out but all are safe. Tracie is so lucky to have visited wolves. These kind are o.k. for people guys, but don't go near them at home. Zoe, hope the itching stops. What did Dr. Keefe say? Oh, Mrs. Bosley Chow Chow, so glad to hear from you. I thought you might have been climbing Mt. Everest, swimming the English Channel, or maybe you were playing jazz in New Orleans. Wherever you were, glad you are back.
    Hugs & smiles,
    Lynn

  • I've been donked deprived as of late and I'm thrilled to see the 3 amigos featured in your blog today.

Holy Fly Masks Batman, who knew that a donk can haul "ass" (oh get it, donkey/ass) up to 30 mph! That is truly amazing!

What a hoot it must be to watch them buzz around the paddock. Of course, stopping to take a few munch breaks!

    What lucky donks! :)

  • Hi gang,
This is one of your cutest blogs - the captions and pictures are in perfect sync!

  • Hi Raven baby and Sharkey. I just got caught up on all your latest adventures. I would still put money on you girls-- remember the tortoise and the hare? Those donkeys sounded a little too sure of themselves.
I had my own adventure the other day. FirstMama was visiting and I was showing off how I like to chase the Water Monster. Well, wouldn't you know, I ran right into the nozzle and broke a tooth. Ouch, it hurt! I tried to be all brave about it, but I was pretty relieved when NowMama took me to the vet and they pulled it the rest of the way out.
