Bird's Nest on the Ground

Posted by F&S

We Frenchies were doing some exploring around the farm the other day, when we stumbled upon an odd looking object.  At first we were puzzled as to what it was, but our sharp wit soon figured it out.

Well, Francesca, shall we investigate? You know, I thought that I saw something falling from one of these trees just a few moments ago!

Could this be what I think it is?

Why, it's a bird's nest! I wonder if it fell out of the tree by accident or if it was sabotage?

Hmmm, it smells pretty clean. You can tell when a nest is no longer inhabitable by birds when it's all soiled and smells bad.

Francesca, I think this nest must have fallen out of the tree accidentally, while it was being built! Some poor bird couple is now suddenly homeless!

Oh, that's sad, Sharkey! It must have fallen from that tree up there, don't you think? Perhaps we can return it to one of the branches.

You're right, Franny. We should certainly try to return it for the birds use again. It would be the right thing to do. These nests look like they take a lot of time and effort.

Franny, have you ever heard the expression, 'bird's nest on the ground?' People say it when they've stumbled upon something fortunate that must have taken someone else a lot of hard work to make!

No, Sharkey! I haven't heard that one before. But come here! I've followed the scent from that nest to this tree!

You're right, Franny, I smell it too! Now how are we ever going to get up there? I'll go to the equipment barn and fire up the Hi-Lo!

  • Good Morning F & S

I would have just chewed up the nest. I don't think the birds would go back in it if it smelled like Frenchie. Plus it didn't look to sturdy no way it could have held eggs.

Lynn sorry you had a bad day I miss my Basil boy too :( I hope you had a nice anniversary dinner. I was hoping maybe you got a surprise gift like a little pup :)

Last night was horrible. Mom had the windows open because we had such a beautiful cool breeze and around 2 am we got hit with skunk smell it was SO GROSS!!!!! You would have thought it was in our house. She jumped out of bed closed all the windows it felt like we were in a lock down. I hate that smell - what is it with those skunks anyway why do they stink so bad??? Then I couldn't get comfy, kept digging in the covers then started snooring so bad mom just got up.

Well I think I'll go join dad back in bed mom is leaving for work. Have a good day Glue Squad :)

  • Good morning ladies,
You should give lectures at the farm on all the subjects you are teaching us about. It is very fascinating.
Cora-Belle, how did it go yesterday with your guests?
Did you break down and share your Warrior Prince cookies with them afterall? How is Lucinda? Tell her that Maddox sends her a big get well smooch. Oh no, our poor Kirby. I just feel so bad for you when you have to wear that cone. I wish there is something we could do for you. Happy Wedding Anniversary Lynn and Will. Geez, that is a long time. I am not married. I guess you could call me a player. I have a few girlfriends here and there. Nothing serious. Every once in a while I get a post card from them asking for puppy support. Heck, I don't have a job anymore. I am retired and you know what that means, I am on a fixed income. I only get so many treats per month (well except when good friends like Lynn send me some special treats, but that is my secret stash) Anyway, I better change the subject just in case some of my lady friends read this. hehehehehehe
I hope everyone has a great day today.
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
I’m always finding things on the ground that fall from the trees. One day I found a frog. I thought it was a flying frog but Daddy told me it was a “tree frog” which lives in the trees. And I thought all that singing at night was from the birds. Daddies are smart that way you know. Maddox the word is out already and you are the one who started it. What’s with the “puppy support” thing. Tell them to get out and get a good job like GK. Daddy is retired so I know how that “fixed income” works. I’m glad that is the only thing that’s “fixed” around here. I am spending a lot of time with my Mommy and Daddy. As long as I am with them, I can’t dig myself or they will put the “shade” on me. They do help out by rubbing those itchy spots.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hi Girls & Glue Squad, You girls have had an interesting week, visiting the birds, shopping for the fur balls and now the bird's nest. What's next?? We had a bird's nest under the deck, a robin family with at least 4 babies. It was interesting to watch their progress; but one day I got a little to close & personal with one, but Dad saved the day. However, he wasn't too happy with me. Baby robin was placed out of reach. Mom and I collided; her chin to my head yesterday, I think it stunned both of us. Nothing serious, but I think her chin is just a tad tender today. Guess I have a hard head ;) , hehe....

Happy Anniversary Lynn - sure hope you & hubby had a wonderful celebration-don't worry, Warrior Prince Basil was celebrating with both of you too and smiling that he had a great Mom & Dad :)

Kirby, how's it going with the shade? Zoe, skunk smell is not the best "perfume" any time of the day/night. Mom smelled one the other night after she let me out; but I wasn't out for long. Not sure what direction it was coming from, wind was just right!! Well, off to the groomers and will check out everyone there.

Everyone have a great day - rain is still in the forecast-Lynn-wish we could send some your way...stay safe!!

    Till next time,

    Missy Chow
    xoxo

  • Good Morning Girls....
Im back. I had a bit of a time out from the computer, as Zoe said, I haven't been too good lately but mom says she still loves me sooooo much :)
We have tons of bird nests out in the yard and now the babies are learning how to fly so I jump (and I can jump pretty high LOL) and try to catch them. :) Almost got a little yellow one the other day. Oh, I got a new animal last week.... mom said it was a turtle. Had it in the yard for about 45 minutes till mom came out to see what I had. They sure are tricky things. I was scratching and chewing on the outside, which mom said was his shell, and couldn't get that sucker out. Anyway, he was fine mom put him back down at the lake.
And yes, I dug a huge hole in her grass.:( she doesn't mind when I dig behind the bushes but god forbid I dig in her grass LOL Got a few shocks from the old collar for that. So much has been happening I could be here all day telling you all. LOL
It's nice to know that all my friends were thinking of me. I love you guys :)
On the up side..... mom takes me for a walk every night at 5:30. And if she is not ready then I jump all over her and bark and howl. Yes, I can howl now, but not too good yet. I am learning. :) I do very good on my leash she says. I even let Abbie walk me the other night and did not pull. Zoe's mom passed me and mom the other night and saw how nice i sit at each corner. She said mom was a show off. But I think she is just jealous cause Zoe and her crazy brother and sisters don't walk at all on a leash. LOL

Well, enought for today. I have to get outside and check out the animals that are trying to get in my yard. LOl Have a great day everyone.

    Chloe xx

  • I'm baaack from TOTO-land (Kansas) ;-) it was hotter then Hades. Visited with our English Lab grandogs Logan and Ginger, oh... our daughter and her hubby as well ;-) great time and shared love.

I see Francesca and Sharkey are sniffing things out...I always find nests on the ground, they are fascinating to look at. I saved a hummingbird nest and decorated it.

Lynn my dear, so sorry to hear you don't feel all that well, I pray God heals your heart with good memories. Congratulations on your Anniversary, I hope it was a good one.

Later on I will go back and read and catch up all the older posts...right now I have a messy yard to clean up from a wind storm and lack of water. :-(

Anyway, good to be back here at DW and with all my Glue-squad friends.

Kitty is happy we are home, my sister spoiled her with other type of food, but now Kitty will have a reality check, back to the food before :-)

    delia & Kitty =^. .^=

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, You girls find the most interesting things there at the farm and it's so much fun to see all of the things that you do to help other animals! You are two great, beautiful ladies who share a lot of fun things with all of us! Love these photos and you look so healthy! Hope you are having another fun, warm day today and we are getting sun finally today and then we get rain off and on until the 4th of July! Zoe, how awful to get that skunk smell in the house! I've never smelled it but Mom said it's awful! Maddox, you are quite the devil and being the father of many chows is great especially GK, my favorite! Kirby, sure hope your itchy tail is better and hope you don't have to wear that 'shade' anymore! Missy Chow, sure glad your Dad saved that baby robin and sure hope your Mom's chin is feeling better! Chloe, sure glad you are back again! Sure glad you didn't hurt that turtle and glad you are behaving well on the leash with your Mom! Delia, so glad you had a nice vacation and it's nice that Kitty is so happy you are back home! Lynn, those fires in Colorado are getting worse everyday-sure hope you are doing OK and staying safe and my prayers are with you always! Hope all of you great friends are doing well today! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Hello Francesca, Sharkey, Lynn, Maddox,Dudley and all my glue squad friends-
That was really nice Francesca and Sharkey are trying to help the birds out by returning the nest. I suspect the birds will just toil and construct a new one. Franny looks so much better and I am glad she can run around the farm without her cone.
WELCOME BACK DELIA AND KITTY!!! We missed you.
Missy Chow, hope you enjoy your grooming today and that your mom feels better. Kirby, hope your tail wound is healing up quickly and you are less itchy.
Chloe we are glad that was not a snapping turtle you tangled with, good job on the leash walking. Zoe hope Pepe le peu stays away from your home tonight. Maddox, really you are a great papa, especially to G.k. and that puppy support was too funny.
Lynn, hope you had a wonderful anniversary. Mom misses Herman every day but she is glad Prince Basil is looking out for him on the bridge. Give yourself a big hug from us!! Where is my buddy rebel today?
Take care friends and high paws- Abby and James Dean the persian

  • Aw, that is sad to see the poor little nest on the ground. I wonder what happened? Maybe a gust of wind knocked it down?

Luckily, the two of you are very observant and noticed right away.

The Hi-Lo should do the trick!

    Hi-Lo reminds me of "Hi-Ho" crackers! :)

Put a few in the nest for the little bird family! :)

    gail

  • Hello Ladies,
As always you are both so thoughtful and considerate. A new bird family will benefit from the nest you have put back. Oh Zoe, yes I wish a little puppy was here for me, but I promised Will I would pay Basil's Care Credit and then a new pup. It will come. So glad Delia and Kitty are home and you all had fun with the granddoggies. Sounds like there has been a little mischief in the air--poor Kirby and itching his tail and Chloe, just blame it all on the moles. And Maddox you devil you, being the player. I can only imagine!!! Abby, and James Dean, hoping you are taking care of the boarders. Dudley and Rebel, hope you are keeping cool and our smoke isn't getting to you. These fires are a bad, bad thing and I can really hear the C130's going overhead...loud. But they are the big guns, for the detardant. I am safe, but so many are not. All the Humane Society's are full up in the areas helping the displaced families. Cora BElle, I will be anxious to hear if the Chiweenies got their way with the biscuits. Hope you had fun and hid your toys. Keep cool all!!
    Hugs & smiles,
    Lynn

  • Sharkey, I can absolutely see you, Franny, and G.K. cruising around in the Hi-Lo looking for things to fix around the farm. I've been very busy with database deadlines so I haven't had a lot of time to post lately. Glad to see everyone is doing well.

Maddox you ol' dog. "Puppy support?" You sound like one of the Pro sports guys. Chloe good to see you back. You know your Mom loves you a bunch. Missy Chow, I hope you and your Mom are OK. Lynn, I worried about you and the fires stay safe. Delia, good to see you back. Zoe, Kirby Bear, Dudley, Rebel, Abby, keep on being you!

  • Hi Francesca and Sharkey!! My name is Maddie and I'm a brindle frenchie. I'm only 7 months old, but mommy reads your blog to me everyday, and I've also been watching your show on youtube. I love all of your mommy's intelligence toys--especially the cake, the chicken coup, and the acorns from inside the squirrel. I live in Seal Beach, California. Although I love the my life by the sea, I love to see what you guys are up to on the farm. Looks like so much fun!!

Here I am with Mommy on the 4th of July!
