An Eye-Opening Experience for Francesca!

Posted by Francesca

Well, it’s been quite a long ordeal, but I finally had that blasted button removed and my eye is now wide open and all healed.  I was taken to the veterinarian last Friday, but a small and unexpected problem was encountered.  I just hope I never get another corneal ulcer!

Is it my turn yet? This is one time I can't wait to be seen by the vet! I'm finally going to get this button removed from my eye! Come on, Sharkey! They just called my name!

Hi, Dr. Jean! I swear I've been really careful with my eye! I've been taking my drops and wearing my cone because I really want this button removed!

I'm going to stay really still while you cut the sutures and remove the button. I'm so nervous! I hope my eye is okay under there!

How does it look, Doc? I still can't see!

So after you wipe my eye, we're done, right?

Dr. Jean! My third eyelid doesn't seem to be coming down! I know it was sewn shut for protection, but it's supposed to come down, right? I can't be looking very pretty.

Oh, I remember these drops. They're numbing drops so Dr. Jean can touch my eye without me feeling it.

I'm trying to be patient and not squirm, but it's hard! Dr. Jean is using a cotton swab to try to coax my third eyelid down.

Francesca! I'm getting worried! What happens if your third eyelid won't open on its own anymore?

9 Francesca! I'm getting worried! What happens if your third eyelid won't open on its own anymore?

Dr. Jean says they have to make a tiny incision to separate the third eyelid. It was inflamed and sewn shut for so long, it started to heal that way! Don't worry, Sharkey, I'm in good hands!

Dr. Jean, you're going to take good care of my Franny, right? Please make sure her eye works okay.

I'll stay in the waiting room and read this new issue of Modern Dog magazine until she's done. G.K. looks great on the cover with Martha and I'm featured inside!

  • ..Oh..I am so happy that all is well with your eye.. Frannie, you had me worried..and Sharkey what a buddy you are for going to the vet with her..You two take it easy..I must finish my popcorn and hit the hay...over and out, Cora-Belle

  • Good morning ladies,
Ahhhhhhhhhh, Francesca your eye is finally healed. You look beautiful. And Sharkey looks happy for you too. I am so proud of you for taking all your medicine and being careful with your eye. That took a long time to heal so try not to do any damage to your eyes anymore.
Well gang, I just went back and read the comments from yesterday again to see the ones I missed. I have to say, you guys are the best. So supportive. Thank you. Kirby, you were so funny. I laughed and laughed. Zoe, we chows actually like getting brushed because like Chloe, we have a double coat and when it is brushed the dead fur comes out and gives the new fur room to grow. By the way Zoe, how did you make out at Dr. Keefe? Keep us updated. Rebel, how is the duck patrol going? Are you keeping them in line? Cora-Belle, tell Lucinda I hope her knee gets good as new real quick. Abby, you got a bath, do you like them? Oh Chloe, tell your mom that if she gives you a bath in water as warm as you can stand it, that helps to open the pores and let the dead fur out and if she blows you dry, that will also help to get the dead fur out to make room for the new stuff. The shedding process is quicker that way.
This week is starting out so good. GK was kind enough to post about my wins, Francesca is all healed and the Glue Squad, for the most part is holding together. Alright, onward to the rest of the week. Let's hope we can hold it together.
    Love to all,
    Maddox
PS - Let's all wish Lynn's son Weston a very Happy Birthday today. I am sure our little buddy, Warrior Prince Basil would like us to do that.

  • Yea! Yea! Yea!
Hooray for Frannie! I think you love your Dr. Jean like I love my Dr. Becky. Sometimes your Vet is your best pal. Watch out squirrels! Both eyes are open and the collar is gone. Frannie's back in town and ready to roll!
I have to report on another Duck family! This Mama has 4 ducklings. The neighbors have chased away all the Canadian geese and the Mallards have moved in. Let's see, the count now is 25 ducklings of all different sizes. Lots of fun!
    Have a great day everybody.
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • Well it really is a Good Morning F & S - Franny your eye is healed - YAHOOOOO!!!!!!!

I bet you are one happy Frenchie to get rid of the button and the lamp shade :) Now girls please take it easy no more injuries.

Lynn give your son a big lick on the face and wish him a happy birthday from old Zoe girl.

So mom talked to Dr. Keefe and I have to take Benydril 2 times a day and if I don't stop scratching in a few days I have to go see him. I sure do hope I can stop.

Maddox I can't see my cousin Chloe sitting still for a blow dry she only sits still when she is sleeping :) Her mom said she gets blow outs twice a year hell I have a few of them every night and can clear the family room in no time ;) just sayin.........

Time for breakfast have a great day everyone!

    Zoe

  • Franny - Lamont and I have been following your eye saga since it happened and am so relieved! And what a great pal you have in Sharkey.

    Horray for sweet Franny!

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
“Button, button; who’s got the button?” That’s an old game often played by children but could apply to you Franny. But, I’ll bet you really don’t care who has that darned button. Just as long as you don’t have it. And the “cone” is gone too. If I were you I would be really careful for a while until your eye is completely healed or the cone could come back. I’ll have Mommy try Maddox’s trick of hot water for baths. I would do almost anything when the old hair comes out and the new comes in. Anything but the “cone of shame.” As for the “blow dry,” now that would be a real “trick” if anyone could get close to me with that thing. Daddy blows on my tail sometimes and that sends me into a “dither;” what ever that is.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hi F,S,&GK+Glue Squad, Sweet, beautiful Francesca, I am absolutely thrilled to see that your vet, Dr. Jean took such great care of you and was able to remove the button and fix the eyelid so you can finally see well again! I love all of these photos and #14 is awesome where you look so happy and beautiful! Sharkey sure did a great job supporting you and she looks so happy and beautiful in photo #13! I'm sure Martha was so delighted and I'm sure GK is extremely happy, also! I agree with Professor Maddox that this has started out as a fantastic week and my paws are crossed for all of you great buddies to have a great, safe, healthy week! I adore all of you and love reading all of your great comments! Love, Dudley Do Right &Jan XOXOXO+

  • Good Morning Francesca, Sharkey, Professor Maddox, Lynn and all the glue squad,
HURRAY FOR FRANCESCA!!! We are so happy you are button free and now ready for adventures around the farm and beach with no cone!! How nice os Sharkey to go to the vet's office to offer her support. I was reading the article in Modern Dog and G.K., Sharkey and Francesca look wonderful at home with mama Martha. You must be so happy!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY WESTON!! Hope you enjoy your special day and high paws and barks for you. Zoe hope that diphenhydramine takes care of your itchy skin. Rebel, 25 ducklings is a big group. If a group of geese is a gaggle what is a big group of ducks?
Wondering again, must be Maddox rubbing off on me. I really liked my hot bath Friday night, now Mom shows off my new spots on my front blonde legs. I am of french pug ancestry and sometimes look like Sharkey!
Hugs to Cora Belle, Lynn, Weston the birthday guy, Maddox, Rebel, Sonya, Chloe and my friends- ABBY

  • Hello Ladies,
This is the best week ever--first Maddox's photos yesterday and now great news on you Franny!!! You have to promise Lynn, the 3 of you, that you will take extra good care of one another, and not hurt yourselves any more. Instead of a Super Nanny like Zoe has, you need a special Tick Nanny, just to get those nasty things off you. And Zoe, don't feel bad about the itchy medicine, as Basil went through that stage just about your age. We even had to wash his paws every time he went out on the lawn around pollen. Feel better and hope you get into mischief real soon. Abby, my sunflowers are starting to come up also--they bring lots of smiles, huh? Missy Chow, instead of digging up flowers you just need a lesson on the difference between flowers and weeds. Dig up the weeds and Mom and Dad will give you an A+ and you will be the star. Chloe, I can't say I have ever seen a mole. Hubbie says they are bigger than a hamster though. You would think they would learn by now not to come to your house. And Rebel, 25 ducklings what fun at your house. It seems to be quite the summer of critters on the Daily Wag. I love hearing of all--keep far from the coyote Cora Belle. I don't like them!!! Well, off to work on my son's b-day feast for dinner. It was 94 here yesterday, so I better keep it cool.
    Hugs to all,
    Lynn

  • THANK GOD!!!! I was getting worried about this, it looked so bad....and NOW I'm as happy as can be, Franny is back, whohooo :-) :-)
I would never have believed that photo except the harness was the same...so no fooling delia!
Thank You Dr.Jean for saving Francescas' eye!!!
    prayers are answered... ;-)

Kitty has been a naughty girl, the other day she came and laid on the computer desk next to me, she then made a familiar noise ummph, ummph, blaaaaa yep, she chucked up the remains of a black stinky rodent right on my desk, good thing I have towels she lays on, so I spread out more for her. I could not lift her as that would mean projectile vomit...yuck! poor thing she doesn't like to throw up, but do you think she learns? NO, the next day she comes running to me in the backyard frightened because she had something attached to her side, yep, the back half remains of a fresh chipmunk that she didn't eat...oh yuck not again!! :-(
I would not let her in the house all day in the fear she would chuck-it-up. Oh to have a cat that likes to hunt...not my thing.

Again Fancy Franny, I am so happy your eye is better and hope for a full recovery.

    Hugs to all~
    delia & Kitty =^*!*^= baarff

  • Another great way to start a day!! Franny you look so beautiful and Sharkey, you are such a good sister to worry about Franny so!

You girls take good care of yourselves and the handsome G.K. and have a wonderful summer!

    hugs,
    Finnegan

  • Dear Franny and Sharkey,

I am SO happy that all is well with your eye, Franny! Whew, I was getting nervous scrolling through the photos. You were such a brave girl, and so were you, Sharkey--Franny is so fortunate to have such a great cheerleader and protector by her side.

Now, I hope all three of you Stewart pups are off to a splendid summer. I know I am. My mom and I are enjoying our patio...UNTIL the dreaded yellow flies show up. Oh well, they will disappear when Dog Days arrive.

    XOXO,
    Poco

  • "Eye yi yi", Franny can see again!

That certainly put a smile on my face today!

So very happy all went well with the surgery. You were a great patient and you endured that darn cone like a trooper.

What's on the to do list now that both eyes are in sync? Chasing squirrels! :)

    Hugs to all!
    gail

  • What a fantastic week this is so far, first Maddox and his latest victory and now you Francesca finally the button says bye-bye! Dr. Jean you've done amazing work saving Franny's eye. Sharkey what a great pal you are to be there holding Franny's paw and keeping her comfortable. Please ladies, no more injuries!

Happy Birthday Weston! Hope you have a wonderful day together.

Ahh Chloe sweetie, you are a member of the Spitz family just like the Shiba Inu and it sounds like you are 'blowing coat' right now. Maybe your Mom can take all of the fur that you blow and spin it into a warm sweater for the winter.

  • ..First off..Happy Birthday Weston, I love birthdays..eat a piece of cake for me..Kit-bang was a big hunter..the little rat really liked hummingbirds and the occasional chipmunk..I know a herd of hippos is called a bloat and that a bunch of mice is called a mischief of mice..will have to look on Lucindas poster later to see what a group of Mallards are called..MIssy Chow, I sometimes still bite Lucinda and and James on the ankle..can't help it..it is my thing..they leap and yell ..I love it!..what is all this talk of bathing and blow drying..I have never had a bath..I bathe in the river and drip dry..and i hate being brushed..I am au nautral..(aka old farm ranch dog)..in my younger days I repotted a couple plants..take your meds, Zoe..I take enough to float a battleship but I feel pretty peppy today..so I am off down the county road to spy on the county workers while they have lunch and maybe they will give me a bite..plus I will bark uncontrollably at them..(they all know me and would be disappointed if I didn't show up..)..later Cora-Belle ....p.s. I know button, button, whose got the button game!

  • Hi Girls & Glue Squad,

Great news, Franny. No, button or cone, a sigh of relief! Please be careful and Sharkey, you are so supportive and protective to make sure that everyone is safe all the time.

Kitty, sometime you just have to walk away from the little critters, just look, don't touch :) .
Cora-Belle, I've been doing pretty good the last couple of days trying to leave the ankles alone and when I do start, Mom & Dad leave the room. I think they try to distract me by walking out and I'll forget what I'm barking about and/or nibbling. Lynn, I 'll ask Mom to show me weeds instead of her plants, that might work better than replanting her inside
    plants. Happy birthday, Weston.

Hope the sunshine comes out soon and the rain has stopped.

    Till next time,
    Missy Chow
    xoxo

  • Hi little sweetie pie Franny. I am so glad that you are free of that annoying cone and that you can see with both eyes now. I sense a real fun summer ahead for you and for Sharkey and GK too because they have their playmate back again. You've been so good through this ordeal and very brave too. I don't always comment but I've been over here often and I know the scoop. Take care and go chase a squirrel the minute you feel up to it!

  • Dear Franny, wonderful news from you today! Thanks be the button is gone, the cone is gone and you can see clearly now. Please try to take it easy and let your family fuss over you for a few days. Sorry I have not posted recently Mom and Dad are traveling so for now I am staying with Gran back here in Ohio. Gran and I are dealing with some "Just Who is the Alpha" issues :) but I love her and she loves me! Sweet dreams everyone.
    Lola

  • I am glad you are all as good as new, Raven baby. It looks like your sister Sharkey was almost more relieved than you were. Everyone stay healthy now, ok? I mean, I know you love Dr. Jean, but you could just go and visit her, you don't have to bang yourself up to see her!
