A Visit to the Beach in East Hampton

Posted by F&S

This past weekend, Martha took us to our home in East Hampton, where there is always so much to see and do.  One of our favorite pastimes is to take long walks on the beach, except that this year, there is a real problem with the beaches.  We hope they can figure out how to fix it.

Same here, Francesca, but where is our third? Where's Sharkey?

What are you two doing in the street? Let's hit the beach! Heather, Daisy, and I are ready!

Francesca, come with me! GK is going with Martha! She says we need to take a look at the beach erosion!

Wow, Francesca. Look how short the beach looks. Local officials are saying this is the worst beach erosion in half a century.

The past winter, while mild in terms of temperature and amount of snowfall, still had many violent storms that caused a lot of sand from the beach to wash away.

If the beach erodes too much, not only will there be no place for us to call a beach anymore, but there will be less protection for beachfront homes during storms!

Some of the beaches may end up closing while the sand is replenished from other parts of the beach or dug up from the ocean floor.

The only people who don't seem to mind the erosion are surfers. A shorter beach makes greater waves. Maybe we should all take up surfing until the beach is replenished!

  • Good Morning F & S

That is too bad about your beach but I'm sure they'll get it fixed up in no time. Mother Nature has a way of giving and taking sand, it will be back.
I've never walked on the beach it must be really fun maybe mom can take me once the summer is over and the crowds are gone. Franny be careful that no sand blows in that eye of yours we don't want you back in a button.

Mom was up really early today she is waiting for the landscaper to arrive so they can go over the list she has for him - it's pretty long. It looks like rain so I hope he gets everything finished.

Last night I had a close call. I was playing on the bed with mom (she hides her hand under the cover and I attack) and I of course tend to get a little rough and jumped on her head and she pretended like she was crying. That is when I run over and give her lots of kisses however this time T-Bone and the rest of the gang were nearby and they thought mom was really hurt and everyone jumped on the bed. Oh lordie lordie - there was growling, howling you name it and I was in the middle of the pile. Thank goodness mom calmed everyone down or my butt was toast. Next time I'll have to make sure they are all down stairs before our play time.

Well Precious is barking that means the landscaper is here - have a good day :)

  • Good morning GK, F&S,
That is a shame about the beach. I hope they get it fixed up. I have not seen many pictures of your home in the Hamptons. I always wondered why Martha doesn't have a home out west somewhere. I guess she likes the East Coast and she is a woman who knows what she wants.
Zoe, what you experienced last night was equal to Monday Night Football. You were the quarterback and you got sacked. Your mom was the ref and T Bone and the rest were on the other team. hehehehehehe
Well, it is a very dreary day today. No sun but a very nice breeze, a lay on the deck and chill out for a while breeze so I think that is what I will do.
I will check back with my good friends later today,
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Hey you gremmies!
That's surfin' talk that Mimi taught me. See, she's an old California gal with lots of beach time in her youth.
Maybe you could learn how to take a ride on a board. The board gets a coat of wax that makes it sticky so you don't slide off. Got to be able to swim, though!
Zoe, sounds like a real good time last night! The whole gang, super!
We're hot & sunny today. Getting a new furnace and a/c. The man promised the house would be cool when we get home from work. Sure hope so.
    Check in later.......Your pal, Rebel

  • Hello Ladies & G.K.,
I bet it is fun running on the beaches with Mama Martha. I never knew about erosion on the beaches. You 3 just keep on educating Lynn here. We have our beetle kill in the Rocky Mountains to deal with. The High Park fire is 50% contained, and saying the most descructive wild fire in Colo's history---60,000 acres and 190 homes. Oh Rebel, I know of the cake Mimi made but had forgotten until Weston's birthday this month. He remembered from his childhood it was his favorite---just a yellow cake with chocolate pudding on top. He loved it, but I have forgotten all about it. Glad to hear that Lucinda is enjoying making your Warrior Prince biscuits Cora Belle. Gotta keep those Chiweenies happy. And Abby, steak with grand papa how yummy. Keep us posted on Tracie and it is good her tests are neg. so far. "CC" time will do wonders we know. Zoe, good thing you aren't at Lynn's house, I have those chop sticks with yarn in every room on the floor. This reminds me of things I will have to remember to keep up someday for a new furry family member. Have to get to chores, but boy do I have a "coon" story for tomorrow. Hope everyone on vacation is having fun and that all my pals have a great day. Send some rain and coolness here---100 yesterday.
    Hugs and smiles,
    Lynn

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
The only beaches I have been to is along some large lakes. I don’t like to get wet so I stay away from the water as much as I can. One hot afternoon I was walking along a beach in Montana and did go for a swim in the cool water. It was only 102 that cloudless day and the water felt good. It took about ten minutes to get back to the truck, but I was almost dry. In the south, the sand is too hot for me to walk on so I don’t do beaches. I do naps which I am about to do now.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, Oh, how fun it must have been to finally visit East Hampton with wonderful Martha, Daisy, and Heather! The beach kind of looked good, but sorry about the erosion from those terrible storms! Sure hope it can be fixed so you can be out there again and again! I love the photos of barefoot Martha and you sweet buddies! Martha's blog was fun to see also about her wonderful Lily Pond Lane home-awesome! Sure has been fun seeing the 3 of you at all three of the homes lately! Zoe, that must have been kind of a scarey event on Mom's bed last night-glad you are OK! Hey Maddox, it's kind of dreary and wet here again today and Cora-Belle, bet it's the same down at your place, too! We are supposed to get summer weather tomorrow and Thursday-sure would be nice! Rebel, hope you stay cool since it's hot where you live! Abby, sure hope your Mom is doing better-sending my prayers to her! Lynn, sure would love to send all of our rain to your area to get rid of those terrible fires! Take care, sweet friend! Sure hope the rest of you buddies are OK and will check back later to see! Hope you all have a great day and stay safe! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Hang Ten little doggies! :)

Oh dear that is a shame about the beach erosion.

I love going to the beach! NH has some very nice family beaches. Wallis Sands in Rye, NH is very nice.

I'm a native California girl, so I know all about beaches! :)

  • That's just awful about the beach erosion. I love walking on the beach. I prefer the Gulf Coast so far in Florida because the sand is so soft like sugar. Abby I am sending prayers and good thoughts that your Mom's stomach pain goes away ASAP! Zoe your tales of exploits are always something else. Can't imagine what things would be like if you and your cousin Chloe teamed up together. Hey Rebel, has Mimi ever taken you out on the water to hang ten yet? I bet that would be fun.

  • Hi frenchies and G.K, I know about beaches..we drive on ours and look for glass floats ( we have found a bunch over the years..and it is really fun..look for them mostly at nite)..we are getting a lot debris from the poor folks in Japan..I feel badly everytime i see something washed ashore..not for the ecology..but for the poor souls who lost it along with their lives...nature can be so cruel...poor souls and wildfires..I should not complain about our rain..wish they could have it...county still working on the road..it is a long walk but I am going to attempt it..I should get to them by coffee break time..I know somebody will have a maple bar for me..James and Lucinda will be mad if I sneak off..but I know the driveway by heart and i know they are spying on me from the house and will come get me if I need help...Zoe. what fun, a free for all on the bed..wish I could have been here to jump in..I used to attack Lucinda under the covers and bite and growl..I still grab her ankle when she walks by..there is a reason we are called heelers!..well fellow glue squaders, wish me luck, I am off to have a coffee break with my friends the county road crew..over and out, Cora-Belle

  • ..p.s., Lynn, I can hardly wait to hear your coon story.., love, Cora-Belle

  • Hey gang,
I am back. Where is Chloe? She hasn't commented for a couple days. Is she back at Boot Camp? Or maybe her computer time got taken away from her for something she may have done wrong. Cora-Belle, you be careful in your driveway. I can just picture James and Lucinda peeping out to check on you. You have very "kool" parents Cora-Belle, but then you already know that. And Delia, where is she today? My head is getting dizzy again from doing all this thinking. I am going to see what I can do to get into trouble. They will never expect me to be naughty. hehehehehehehe
    Maddox

  • Maddox,
I think Delia is on vacation visiting one of her daughters in Kansas. I worry about that driveway stuff too with Cora Belle. Lucinda and James are the best parents. Keep cool.
    Hugs,
    Lynn

  • Hi Girls, GK & Glue Squad, The beach really looks nice and bet it's fun to walk on & explore it on a hot summer's day. Mom likes to walk the beach; but I haven't tried it yet with her. No doubt I would get plenty of sand on my fur. Maddox, my timeouts have been limited lately; however, when I do get one, it doesn't last long. Guess, my big brown eyes and sad look is something Mom & Dad can't resist, well maybe they can if I've been really bad. Dudley Do Right, I haven't counter surfed since my last time, but I do like to keep an eye open on things happening in the kitchen especially when it comes to dinner preparation, if you know what I mean :) . Zoe, just recently I've been able to jump onto the bed and check things out. Mom & Dad cuddle with me although they never know where my paws will end up, or what I will walk over..hehe.

Hopefully, tomorrow will be an earlier post, Mom is working from home, yeah! I need to talk to her about this late afternoon posting.

Greetings to Lynn, Cora-Belle, Chloe, Abby, Kirby Bear and all the other members of the GS.

    Till next time,
    Missy Chow
    xoxo

  • Thank you so much for fixing the glitch in the web-site. Ahhh - I get my daily wag fix Daily! These pups make me smile every morning.
    Melany in Kansas

  • All I can say, what lucky Frenchie pups you are to have MS as your mommie martha...

Maddox thanks of thinking of me, makes me feel all fuzzy inside ;-)
