A Visit to the Beach in East Hampton
Posted by F&S
This past weekend, Martha took us to our home in East Hampton, where there is always so much to see and do. One of our favorite pastimes is to take long walks on the beach, except that this year, there is a real problem with the beaches. We hope they can figure out how to fix it.
1 GK! Isn't it great to be back in East Hampton? I can't wait for all the fun parties and visits to the beach!
2 Same here, Francesca, but where is our third? Where's Sharkey?
3 What are you two doing in the street? Let's hit the beach! Heather, Daisy, and I are ready!
4 Francesca, come with me! GK is going with Martha! She says we need to take a look at the beach erosion!
5 Wow, Francesca. Look how short the beach looks. Local officials are saying this is the worst beach erosion in half a century.
6 The past winter, while mild in terms of temperature and amount of snowfall, still had many violent storms that caused a lot of sand from the beach to wash away.
7 If the beach erodes too much, not only will there be no place for us to call a beach anymore, but there will be less protection for beachfront homes during storms!
8 Some of the beaches may end up closing while the sand is replenished from other parts of the beach or dug up from the ocean floor.
9 The only people who don't seem to mind the erosion are surfers. A shorter beach makes greater waves. Maybe we should all take up surfing until the beach is replenished!
