Exploring Newport's Cliff Walk

Posted by F&S

On yesterday’s blog, we told you about arriving in Newport and exploring some of the grand old homes along Bellevue Avenue.  After that little tour, we found an entrance to the very famous Newport attraction called Cliff Walk and G.K. was so anxious to walk along its trail.

Come on, Francesca and G.K.! We've already driven along the scenic ten miles of Ocean Drive. Perhaps we should get out, stretch our legs, and enjoy some nice fresh air!

Girls! Let's explore Cliff Walk! There are so many interesting smells already, and we're just at the beginning of the path!

Right on, G.K.! What a great idea! Cliff Walk is one of Newport's most popular attractions and I can already see why.

I can too, Sharkey! Francesca, look at the beautiful view of the ocean! I can taste the salty air on my tongue and feel the misty spray on my fur from here!

Not only does this walk take you along the gorgeous coast line, you also get to see some amazing and stately homes.

G.K.! Better be careful what you sniff and put your face near along this walk! Francesca spotted some poison ivy!

Right, Sharkey! I saw it over here. Poison ivy thrives in sandy beach environments and this ocean side cliff is no exception!

Thanks, girls, but I think you two are more at risk than I! Dogs get poison ivy the same way humans do, when the oil from the plant touches the skin. My thick fur coat will protect me.

You're right, G.K.! Francesca and I are definitely more susceptible to poison ivy than you, so let's be on our way. A nasty case of poison ivy would be a terrible way to start the summer season.

  • Hello Ladies & G.K.,
This Rhode Island sounds wonderful. I can almost smell the sea air. Poison Ivy---horrors!!! Stay away. Thank you for seeing the girls are not near this itchy stuff G.K. I think you all are very lucky to have started the spring/summer on this cliff walk. I must say I am very worried about our Cora Belle. Nothing from her for 2 days---not like her. She is the matriarch and I am the patriarch of the Glue Squad. We all look after each other you know, so Cora Belle, don't worry Old Basil Boy. Let us know how you are. I am hoping you are on a trip and eating a maple bar and forgot to tell us. I must have checked in yesterday 20 times to see how everyone was doing, because I was up at the computer while Mom was in her studio. Hope everyone is good.

  • Good morning GK, F&S,
What a beautiful place to take a walk. Amazing views all along the walk. That would be awesome to live there. It looks like the three on a leash is working out quite nicely.
Cora-Belle, where are you? I haven't seen any comments from you for two days now. Are you alright?
You have me worried girl. I know there are some that only comment a couple times a week but there are the regulars that post every day and you are a regular. Let us know you are ok.
You know, we try to do things for each other. We made sure that Rebel had an official birthday. Basil got given a very special name of Warrior Prince. If you read about Kirby on his FB page, you will see how he is good at finding out if someone has cancer. That is so speical. He saved his dad that way. Since he is a charter member of the Glue Squad, I think he should have a special title too. What do you think? Any ideas?
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Good Morning All

Newport looks like a really neat place. I've never been to the beach but I'm not sure I would like the sand blowing in my eyes.

Cora Belle where are you??? I'm getting worried what's going on???

Chloe is still in jail poor thing. I hope she gets to come home soon seems like she has been there for ever.

Doc Kirby sounds good to me Maddox, nothing fancy straight and to the point.

Speaking of doc's I have to get off the computer mom has a doctors appointment this morning so I need to go out and do my business before she leaves.

  • Lovely scenic walk area. wow 10 miles! well again you cuties F&S educated me, love learning new facts..."Poison ivy thrives in sandy beach environments" I never knew that!

So, where are you Cooora-Belle???? :-( hope all is OK!
I have a busy day ahead, I'm sorting through all my 50+yrs antiques that I have collected mostly European. I have to get rid of them because my daughters don't want them...gosh if they only knew how valuable they were. So I'm selling them, can't take it with you! It's kind of fun to see what I have packed away and forgot about...oh my, this is going to be a job!

Have a good day Glue Squad, hopefully sunny and warm,
    delia & Kitty =^. .^=

  • I second the Doc Kirby. Would someone tell me what Kirby did, since I can't do Facebook? And thanks Chloe for sneaking on the computer yesterday. Good to hear a little.

    Warrior Prince Basil

  • Good morning all!
What a beautiful country we have! It is so great you get to take a walk on such an historic path in such a breathtaking place!
O.K. Glue Squad - I third "Doc Kirby" He is a really special guy!
Basil, I would love to tell you the whole wonderful story, but I'm afraid I'd miss something. The main thing is that our Doc Kirby was smelling his Dad's rearend. Dad went to the doctor & they found cancer, which was treated & Doc Kirby's Dad is now O.K. Don't we wish we all could do this for our Mom's & Dad's too? It is a very special talent that not all of us have.
How did I do telling the story?
Hey Cora-Belle, where are you gal?
I go to the visit my Dr. Becky today for a board-a-tello to-the-nose YUKKKK! I'll be spending the weekend with Dr. Becky & crew while Papa goes golfing & Mimi goes shopping with the wives.
    I'll check in later.
    Your Pal,
    Rebel

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
My Daddy doesn’t let me get around the poison ivy at all. It’s not that I get it on my skin, it’s the oil that gets on his skin. My long hair holds the poison ivy oil and it then is transferred to him. Makes him itch something awful. He says that all he has to do is look at it and he starts itching. Don’t know how that works but if my Daddy says that’s how it happens, then it must be right. It’s raining today; yuck. I think I will take a nap and maybe it will go away. Don’t get me wrong here, we need the rain. I just wish it would only come at night when I’m inside. Too much to do outside during the daytime.
Catch you later, Kirby; alias Doc Kirby.

  • What a beautiful beach trail to walk on. So nice to see the three of you spending time together what with G.K.'s busy show dog schedule and F & S maintaining the farm. Some fun R & R together is a great way to relax.

I like Doc Kirby because it fits him to a T!

Miss Cora-Belle sweetie where are you? I hope all is well and you are just taking it easy relaxing. Please let us know that you're OK. Zoe are you feeling better after what you ate you little stinker. I hope sweet Chloe gets to come home soon.
Great Warrior Prince Basil Boy it's wonderful to see you in such happy spirits. The sunshine in your kingdom must be shining so bright. So many sweet, wonderful pals here on the DW. We always look out for each other here.

  • Hello Warrior Prince Basil, Doc kirby, Francesca, G.K., Sharkey and all the glue squad,
Cliff walk looks like a wonderful place to walk and take in the ocean views. My mom saw some parts of scenic new Port and remembered the Seaweed mansion. Did you know there were three Titanic Dog Survivors??
Cora belle we miss you. Zoe hope your paws feel better soon. Glad to hear about your walks Rebel. Maddox, Herman sends you and Rebel lots of purrs today. Haiyuu hope you are feeling better and taking it easy after the spine surgery. Welcome Boots!!
Zoe are you getting ready for cinco de Mayo yet?? All of us glue squad should party it up and designate it Basil Boy Party day in honor of our prince. What do you think?? Spring time gets me in the party mood.. as does the beach. Keep warm- Abby the frenchie pug beach girl

  • Hi gang,
I amn back. I checked to see if Cora-Belle checked in yet and I see she didn't. This is not like her or Lucinda. I am hoping that she is having computer problems and nothing more than that. Kirby, what do you think of your title? After all, you have to like it. What do you think about Doc Kirby? Do you think your dad will like that too? Let us know.
Delia, when you sell your antiques, take that money and go on a nice vacation to some place that you always wanted to go to. Then you will have wonderful memories of how your beautiful antiques sent you on a beautiful vacation. Zoe, what the heck is up with Chloe? She has been at Boot Camp for a while now. I thought she would be back home by now. Rebel, have fun at Dr. Becky's. And while you are there, check to see if she put your official birthday on your records. If not, put it on while you are there.
I guess i will be checking in the rest of the day to see if Cora-Belle comments. See how we are all worried about her? We truly do stick together like glue.

  • ..hello glue squaders..thanks for the concern..I was a little under the weather and Lucinda was babying me..but i feel fit as a fiddle today..and caught up on all your comings and goings..you fellow glue squaders are an interesting bunch..I just love each and every one of you..Doc Kirby, I like that title and of course our Warrior Prince, what a bunch of classy dog buddies I have...I have some new meds and I am a little tired..but I heard something about James going to get me a maple bar to nibble on..who I am kidding i am an old farm/ranch dog who gobbles instead of nibbling...wet and cold here in the southwest washington this day..so I am off to take a snooze..talk to you all tomarrow..once again, don't worry this old girl is fine and looking forward to my 16th birthday next month,, a party is being planned..yippee!..over out..Cora-Belle

  • A beautiful walk indeed.

    The views were spectacular.

Good detective work spotting the poison ivy. Certainly don't want to itch your way back to NY! :)

  • ..wow..have to tell my story..went for a walk with Lucinda along he river bank..on my leash..(can't see anymore)..smell something in the bushes..and yikes a fisher ( giant weasle..timber company imported them to eat porcupines, so the trees aren't damaged)..I lunge in..not knowing this thing is big and could tear me up..Lucinda starts yelling NO-NO but i don't stop..this thing has me riled now..my leash is in the way..Lucinda drops it..yelling and whacking this thing with her walking stick..James comes running from the house and scoops me up out of the bushes..no easy feat..I was in attack mode...calms me down..checks for bite marks..none..thanks to my double coat..the fisher though had a bleeding toe as it slunk off..wow..my heart is racing...what do you think Warrior Prince, the old girl still has it in her..though I must admit I am worn out..whew!!!Wait till the raccoons hear about this..over and out..Cora-Belle p.s. think Lucinda is more shook up then me..I thought it was good sport!

  • Cora-Belle, there you are. Soooooo glad you are alright
You scared us. I hope your new meds work well
Doc Kirby, I am so happy that you like your new title
tell your dad that anyone that gets such an impressive title like you did should get extra treats for a month. Hehehehehe
it seems like we are all alright so I can go to bed now
    good night all,
    Maddox
