Exploring Maine

Posted by F&S

As previously posted, we Frenchies and G.K. went on a road trip with Uncle Carlos to Skylands, our home in Maine. It takes a good eight hours to drive there and it is a lot further north than our farm in Bedford.  None-the-less we were very surprised at what we found there!

Wow, Francesca! Look at the snow! Back in New York, we've been frolicking with spring flowers, but up here in Maine, it's still cold enough for this white stuff!

Sharkey, once again, I just have to say that the weather has been so strange this year! It goes from cold to warm so quickly and it's anyone's guess how long this snow will last!

Okay, so I've tied the three of us together. Sorry, G.K., but Francesca and I know how much you love to run and we can't have you take off on us! This way we'll all stick together!

Oh girls, come smell over here! The snow traps so many scents that a snow day like this makes us pups go crazy! We are curious animals and need to take in everything around us!

And look at all of these paw prints in the snow! What kind of wild beast made these? Oh wait, these are your prints! No matter, I'm sure we can hunt out some other creatures!

G.K.! Slow down! Francesca and I can barely keep up! Plus, we don't want to stray too far away!

Look Sharkey, G.K. found the beach! It's too chilly for beach combing now but I can't wait until we visit in the summer. I love the feeling of warm sand on my paws!

  • Good Morning F , S & GK

Girls you are lucky GK didn't take off and drag the both of you behind. I can see it now just like the scene from the movie Family Vacation when they tie the old Aunt's dog to the car and they forget and take off :0 Snow in Maine YUK. Get home and enjoy this spring weather.

Yesterday dad and I finished the pool, it looks great and we're all ready for Easter. Mom stuffed all the eggs for the hunt last night so we are ready for the kids.

Sophie doesn't know it but she has to go see the groomer this morning I can't wait to tell her ;) She needs her nails cut for some reason they grow really fast and she won't let mom or dad cut them so she is off to Jakes. I think I'll go tell her now and ruin her morning....

  • Hello F&S and GK,
That snow looks soooooooooooo refreshing. I wish I was there to romp in the snow with you. GK, I am so proud of you for not pulling those girls all over the place. When I saw the first picture of the three of you tied together I thought the next picture would be you running with the girls on their backs being dragged down the road but you were a real gentleman. Thank you son.
Can't wait for updates on Chloe, Basil, Kirby and the rest of you. Say, where is Nadia and Sparkle? Haven't seen them post for a while.
    Later,
    Maddox

  • Hey everybody!
Snow? We had hardly any this year and the farmers are saying how dry the ground is.
What a great way to walk together! You were a swell big brother, G.K. So polite and gentle with the ladies. Glad to see Uncle Carlos waiting for you three. What a trio! lol
I'm with you Maddox, anxious to hear how all our friends are doing today. I'll check in later. Off to my morning nap now.
    Your Pal,
    Rebel

  • I have seen my share of snow on Easter, sure hope that doesn't happen this year :-(

Maddox I thought the same thing, I had the vision of G.K. dragging F & S all through the park ;-) indeed G.K. was a gentleman!

Basil sweets, hope all goes well today! Of course Chloe, Kirby and all the other furpets, have a good day and stay well.

Robin the kitty I'm taking care of finally came to me and rubbed, talked and purred, this makes me feel good because she is a real skittish kitten.

Glue Squad Friends, have a great day! :-)

    delia & Kitty =^. .^=

  • Hi Girl Friends &G.K.+Glue Squaders, WOW! The 3 of you fabulous friends sure had a great time being at Skylands in Maine with great Uncle Carlos again! Seeing the snow makes me shiver, but I know GK loves it just like Maddox, Kirby, Chloe, and maybe Cora-Belle would! We smaller doggies like warmer weather just like Kittie does! I love these photos of the 3 of you going around Skylands with your leashes hooked together and GK, you were so nice not to drag the girls if you ran!!! Hey Basil Buddy, can't wait to hear how you do at your vet's place today-my paws are crossed and my prayers are with you again! Sweet Cora-Belle, did you have 60+ sunny weather yesterday and now possible rain again today?! Sure would like to have warmer spring time! Hope all of you have a great day! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+ PS Maddox, say Hi and hug wonderful animal lovers Karen and Jan for me-they are terrific humans who care for animals just like my Mom does!!

  • Run wild run free you three. All of that open space to roam and sniff must be incredibly fun for you all. So G.K. you still like to take off and explore eh? Zoe's right, I can see you taking off and dragging the girls with you.

Anxiously awaiting updates on how our buddy Basil is doing as well as Chloe and her boot camp days. I hope everyone is having a great day and everyone feeling under the weather recovers quickly.

  • HI Francesca, Sharkey, Mr. G.K. and all the glue squad buddies,
We are happy to see the only white stuff here on the lawn this morning are tiny tree blossums from the weeping crab apple tree. Skylands looks like fun with all three of you running cross country. G.K. walked very well with the frenchie girls all tied together. The beach scene reminded me of warm days ahead. Like my buddy Dudley Do Right I like WARM Sunny days. BASIL lots of luck today for you at the vet's office and hope you have GOOD news. Rebel are you out there chasing geese today? No hawks today so Cora belle must have kept them away. Off to nap before work. Mom's boarder dogs actually have a good time at boot camp. Wishing all sunshine-
    Abby the pug frenchie

  • ..What a gentleman you are, GK...afraid i have no manners and would have towed the poor little girls all around..Anxiouly awaiting word about our buddy Basil..My liking snow days are over..give me some sun to stretch out in...Busy day here at the farm/ranch..must start picking up all the fallen branches ..that means giant bon-fire and at dark time I can go out and sit next to it and drink hot chocolate and toast a marshmallow and I am thinking the the siberian husky from down the road and her folks will be there.. the English bulldogs down the road and their folks..the chiweenies and their people... it will be a mini-party..quads with trailers for riding and goodies..yippy!..Wish all of you my glue squad buddies could be here to toast a marshmallow with us..I would protect my smaller dog buddies..so you would not have worry about critters..Basil..I would fix you and your folks a spot next to the fire where you would be warm and toasty..we have lots of chaise lounges, enough for everybody!..I must go help LUcinda fix some food..then go out and help James with the tarps so if rains we are under cover and still close to the fire.. and an enclosure for my dog buddies so they will be safe and can't wander off...but still be part of the action..over and out, Cora-Belle

  • Hello All,
No it isn't Basil today. It is his Mom, Lynn. Basil is resting in front of a nice fire. It is snowing a wet and much needed snow, so he is now cozy after his doctor visit.

It is with a heavy heart and many tears I am writing. I will explain things fully to all of you, our best of friends, as you need to know what is going on. Then it will be Basil Boy, writing until the end. You see it wasn't very good news. His eyes have been telling me that his days were getting more difficult, but I did not realize how much so. The doctor did his bladder ultrasound and came back in with him a bit teary eyed. He explained the bladder cancer was indeed spreading, causing no pain, just pressure as the walls of the bladder are thickening. It has spread to the prostate area. Although that is removed when male dogs are neutered, apparently there is a remnant and the cancer has consumed that area. He said he could be wrong, but at the rate of the speading, our boy will be in heaven in a month. As I wipe my tears in telling you this, I want just to enjoy the remaining time to the best. The vet assured us he is in no pain, and when the end is near he will tell us by not eating or vomiting. I want you all to know Basil's last days will be the best and as responsible caregivers we will have to decide the time best for Basil to part. I want you to know he will have his time at home until the end. We will have a vet referred to us by our vet come and let him go peacefully. It was very sad parting at the doctor's as all Basil's friends through the years came and we said our goodbyes. The little man has much inner strength and I do believe he will surprise all and be here longer than a month. His illnesses have given him a challenging life, but we have tried our best to make it a good one. Basil will blog till the end I am sure, and be a strong little man. Know we are caring for him very well and he will be happy to the end. We love you all and thank you for everything. With appreciation and love to all of you from me--Lynn

  • Hey, I think I heard Uncle C toot his horn as you whizzed on through NH to Maine! :)

How about that snow one minute and then the beach dead ahead.

You are correct, weather as of late has been very weird. However, not to douse any Winter enthusiasts, I happened to love the mild Winter. I'm a native California girl and sure miss the mild temps!

Can't wait to read more about exploring in Maine.

    hugs to all...
    gail

  • Hi Lynn, After reading your comments, I find it very hard to accept that wonderful, little Basil may only have a month left. My prayers and thoughts have always been with him and you and this reminds me of loosing my 5 prior dogs over the years. Basil is so much fun to read about and it feels like he is a personal little friend. I will enjoy all that he wants to share as long as he can! My thoughts and prayers are definitely there again as usual and I know that our Dear God will do all that he can to protect your handsome little guy. We will answer his new comments in a positive way to help keep him happy. Take care, Lynn. Love, Jan and DDR

  • Afternoon Girls,GK & Glue Squad, You sure looked like you were enjoying your walk together and yes, GK, you are a gentle man not pulling on your sisters. I was on critter patrol last night and chased a turkey out of my woods from the other side of the fence, thank goodness. It was scared and flew up a tree where it stayed maybe all night - it was still there this morning. Then a kitty was on the property and he/she ran when it saw me, so I guess I'm protecting my yard. I didn't see the bunny out in front of the house but Mom said the kitty probably scared it when it ran thru the yard. Zoe, did Sophie enjoy her grooming?

From Missy Chow's Mom - Lynn/Basil, my eyes filled when I read the update. We are all "fur parents" and our "fur kids" are so very important to the family. Our prayers are with you and yours. We have never met; but I "know" you will take good care of Basil. Please give him an extra hug from Missy Chow.

    Till next time,

    Missy Chow
    xoxo

  • ..oh Basil, my little friend, I will cook an extra marshmallow for you tonight and bark and behave really badly just for you..I may even give a coon a nip on the hind leg for you..rest and relax..I love you, Cora-Belle..p.s. I am definitely going after a coon just for you tonight!

  • Hi again,
I just read the post from Lynn about my little buddy Basil and I want to tell her that we will all try to be positive and upbeat for Basil and for her too starting tomorrow. Today I want you to know that I am so sorry that he is going through this but I am so glad he has you to take care of him and love him. Lynn, Karen said she hopes you keep posting
afterward because she said it will ve good therapy for you. That is why she likes the DW so much. After the fire and explosion and the loss of my relatives, she was lost. She went to three different therapists and she said the best therapy is the DW and it us free.
She said you can just post about things you do during the day, if you want to vent or just talk. After all, we all love and adore you and Basil and it is a good thing to stick with family. I am sure Zoe, Rebel, Dudley, Cora-Belle and the rest of the Glue Squad would want you to continue posting.
Ok, I said I would be positive and upbeat. I will, tomorrow
Much love to you Lynn and little Basil
    Maddox and Karen too

  • Hey there Glue Squad

I am so sad right now, mom is crying she just got an email from Lynn. My heart is breaking for Basil and his family. I prayed tonight that Basil not suffer, that his human family find comfort in knowing they were the best parents any dog could ask for and that God bring them strength to get through this.

Basil my dear friend we are all praying for you.....

    Love you
    Zoe

  • Hi Lynn, this is Rita, Little Lola's Gran. Thank you so much for writing to all of us about Basil. Your note not only helped us to better understand Basil's condition but indicated what a wonderful caring person you are. Please know that Basil, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers daily. Lola asks to please give Basil a daily kiss and let him know they are from Lola and her family in Illinois and Ohio.
Lola too will be certain to keep her daily posts upbeat and maybe even a little sassy to Mr Basil. Hugs from Lola and her family.

  • }:P How Lovely... I wish I were there... {:''(
