Changes to our Stone Wall

Posted by F&S

You may know that sitting on the stone wall overlooking the farm is one of our favorite vantage points.  The view is great and it’s fun watching the world go by.  We, Frenchies, were out there basking the other day when we discovered that our stone wall was getting a beautification treatment.

Ah, how I love basking in the sun on a beautiful day!

Yes, Sharkey. Even with my cone on, I still can enjoy the sun! This stone wall is one of my favorite places to sit.

Hey, there's something new about the stone wall! There are all sorts of tiny succulents growing out of it!

Look, Francesca, here's a whole tray of tiny succulents!

Hey Ryan! Are you planting all of these succulents in the stone wall? Show us how to do it so we can help you!

Sharkey, first Ryan divides the plants from the tray into small sections.

Ryan, this is a sedum, right? Sedum, like other succulents, retain water in their leaves and can thrive in dry climates. They need little soil and water to survive, which makes them excellent for planting in a stone wall like this!

Sharkey, Ryan then finds an appropriate sized gap between stones to put the plant in.

Oh I get it, Ryan! You use the plant marker to help tuck the roots into the crevices.

Thanks Ryan! We'd love to help you work the wall, but our, um, short stature makes us of limited use to you! So maybe you better finish it on your own?

We're not trying to get out of helping you! When you're done with the wall, Francesca and I can help you finish planting the rest of these succulents along the stone walkways!

Thanks Ryan, we always learn so much from you. Oh, and thanks for getting that scratch behind my ear for me! This darn cone makes scratching quite difficult, which is the point of wearing it, I suppose.

  • Good morning everyone,
Is it just my computer or what? The post from Friday is gone. I always go back to catch up on everybody and it isn't there. Hmmmm.
Francesca, I see you are still wearing your collar. How are you feeling? Is your eye any better? Just be patient and take your meds and you will be back to your old self in no time.
Well, I guess I will just wait and see what is going on with all of you.
You girls pace yourselves on helping with the chores. It is supposed to get hot again this week.
    Love to all and WPB,
    Maddox

  • Good Morning F & S

My mom just planted some succulents in the stone waterfall this weekend. There were Sedum and some other plant she called Chicks n' Hens or something like that, crazy name I thought especially since they didn't look a chicken or a hen.

Franny how is your eye issue? Is it getting any better? Isn't that lampshade a real pain in the butt not to mention it looks so silly. I guess you better keep wearing it if it's going to help your eye.

I had a very busy weekend. I worked in the yard with mom and Sunday my little buddy Nicole came for a visit. We played in the yard all day. Mom said she was exhausted after she left that kid never sits down. I have to say I was tired too those 5 year olds are too much for me. I was disappointed no cheese curls but she did have some potato chips which we shared :)

Well I'm back to bed for a nap before I start my day :)

  • Good Morning Ladies,
You and Ryan are so smart to know just what to do on a stone wall. It will be beautiful!! I have thought about your Lyme Disease and eyes over the weekend, hoping that Precious Francesca is feeling better. It is thank you week for me---making things and taking Basil's leftover canned prescription food to those whose can't afford it. In the 70's here in Colorado.
Everyone look at the previous post please, last one, on it. I love you all and thank you for helping my heart heal. Enjoy your Monday.
    Hugs, & Smiles,
    Lynn

  • Lynn my dear...good to see the 4/29 post from you! I pray you continue to heal your heart...can't wait to get started on Basil's portrait! :-)

Francesca it's also nice to see you have kept the collar on, it must be rough to do, but will be better for you to get better.

I love succulents in between rocks, I planted some and it looks so nice.

    Hugs to all from,
    delia & Kitty =^. .^=

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
Up on the wall again I see. I love to be in high places and watch things. One of my favorite spots is on the north wall of the Grand Canyon. From there you can see clear to the bottom and watch the river. Daddy said he saw a raft on the river, but I couldn’t. Guess it was those things he had over his eyes that helped. I like to walk to the end of our driveway and stand at the top of the wall and look into the back yard. It’s only a wall of five feet, but it does give me a good view of the back yard where I often find a stranger there. More often than not, it’s a cat and I chase it away.
    Catch you later, Kirby

  • Hi Girl Friends, &G.K.+ Glue Squad, You girls look so great in these newest photos and Francesca, you look much better and I can see that your right eye is open again, Thank God! Franny, you are so good to understand the use of that cone to protect you eye! How nice that Ryan was showing you about planting those succulents and even scratched your ear for you, Franny! Lynn, reading your wonderful comments last Friday was fantastic! You are a wonderful dog lover and you care about this fabulous blog and all of the followers just like my Mom and I do-God Bless you! Reading this blog and Martha's blog everyday makes us mostly happy! Sure hope all of you have a great day! It's raining here again, but might get dry and sunny next weekend. Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Hi F & S,

I'm finally home and doing great! Mom has those little plants growing too. I tried eating them but they didn't taste too good. I played out in my yard all weekend. I just got into trouble two times. First was when my "special" collar came off and I started jumping on Abbie and didn't listen to mom when she said the "off" word. :) And second was when I was in the garden and saw the most beautiful purple flower blooming and decided to bite it right off. Mom was yelling out the window but did I listen??? of course not. LOL I heard mom saying from the house "4 weeks away and she still doesn't listen". hahahaha Oh well, I can't be good all the time.

Anyway, I hope everyone has a great day. Mom is taking me for my first of 4 follow up classes for training. Hope I do good.

    Chloe xx

  • Succulents always remind me of Sylvester and sufferin' succotash for some reason. Sharkey and Franny you both look so cute on the wall and always helpful. Yes Franny, even with the collar you are still very stylish. I hope that your eye is feeling better.

It's so good to see you this morning Lynn. What a beautiful post you wrote on Friday. Everyone should go back and read it if they haven't. Chloe try to be a good girl. We don't want you back at boot camp again.

  • Hi Everyone
Sounds like everyone is having a nice Monday.
Chloe! you are home! Have a good time in your back yard.
I'm doing okay. Mom's packing my traveling bag :) Thursday Mom Dad and I will be traveling to Gran and Pops house in OH IO for a long weekend. Maybe this would be a good time to explain my situation. Okay here goes.... Although I actually live 95% of the time in Chicago with my M & F Gran is my secretary and does my posting for me in OH IO. She and Mom talk, text and email often and Mom keeps Gran up to date on my doings. Mom's a great Mom and takes really good care of me but because she's pretty busy with her work it's hard for her to get the time to post. Gran loves posting and keeping track of all of you :) Does this make any sense? Anyways I am excited because later this week when we are in OH IO Gran and I will be able to post together during our visit.
Lynne you are the Greatest! Keep posting because we all love you and your notes.
Franny and Sharkey please don't fall off of the wall. I have to say you both look very fit. We just need to get Frannie eye condition resolved. Okay, I am off to see how Mom's packing is coming. Hope Gran has super good treats waiting for me.
High Paws and Peace My Friends
    Little Lola.

  • I forgot to add that the 5% of the time I am not with M & F I'm usually with Gran and Pops while M & F are traveling.

  • Good afternoon ladies!
It's been such a busy morning here at work so I'm later than usual. That's o.k, 'cause I get to read everybodys posts!
Wow, the stone wall will be so pretty. I used to love the deck but it's gone now & there's a room with furniture. But now I have a nice warm patio to sun on and watch the birds, ducks & geese. We have goslings! Only 3, but they sure are cute.
Frannie, it was good to see one of your eyes in the picture. Sure hope that medicine is helping.
Chloe, you just want to have fun, don't you....be a good girl now.
I had a thunderstorm wake me up this morning, had to leave my bed & head for Mimi's closet (I like to lay with her wooly sock slippers). It's a dark & rainy day, so off for a nap! Hugs & kisses back to you Lynn.
    Til tomorrow.
    Your Pal,
    Rebel

  • Hi F&S

Frannie seems a bit more chipper today! I hardly noticed the cone!

Ooh, I love what is being done to the stone wall. Will add some charm and a bit of a rustic feeling over all.

Doesn't Martha have moss along some pathways also? I love that look.

    Be well girly girls! :)

  • Hi Everyone, A late afternoon posting for me today. Mom had an errand after work, doesn't she know that I like to post earlier. Boy, oh Boy! Frannie, glad your eye is doing better, continue to do what you have to do to get that cone off. Sharkey is a great help. The stonewall will look terrific when it's all done. Welcome home, Chloe, I get that word too "off", plus "leave it" ; don't feel bad. I sometimes I have "selective hearing", too. hehe. Tell me, how are you doing on the nibbling?? For me, not too good, Mom & Dad still don't like and keep telling me about it. Although Saturday was "graduation day" for me and I passed :) , the trainer even gave all of us presents, everyone was proud. Next step may be intermediate classes, I think I may be going to those classes too. Can't wait, maybe not!! But then again, I did get into the pt & tp last night.

Hi Lynn, A lovely post, you sound good and happy for you. Time will heal. In honor of Basil, please pin your map for me in MA, south of Boston, in Brockton.
    Till next time,

    Missy Chow
    xoxo
