Exploring a State Park in Pennsylvania

Posted by Ghenghis Khan

Yes, it’s true, I’ve been away from home for quite some time, but that’s just the way life is for a show dog.  I really miss the two Frenchies, but I have plenty of company when I stay with Karen.  Karen also makes sure that I get plenty of fresh air and exercise.

Oh Sharkey, how I miss G.K.! It feels like he's been away forever! I can't wait for him to come home!

Me too, Francesca. I wonder what he's doing right now.

Hmmm...unfamiliar territory. No matter, for I am G.K., the Intrepid Explorer!

Here I am, at the foothills of the Poconos, in the middle of over 3,000 acres of land. Why, this is Beltzville State Park! My father, Maddox, told me all about this place.

Just to my left is Pohopoco Creek, where people frequently fish. The creek connects to the much larger Beltzville Lake. I bet many early explorers stopped during their expeditions for food here!

Why, there looks to be some kind of tracks here. The ground is worn down a bit. I know there are over fifteen miles of trails here, but where do they start?

Ah, here we are! I wonder if that's pointing to Saw Mill Trail, which passes by many interesting sites like a slate quarry from the 1700s.

This park was originally developed by the military as part of a flood control project. It didn't even become an official park until 1972!

I think I'll stop for a bite to eat at one of the many picnic areas. Exploring is fun but exhausting!

  • Good Morning F, S & GK

GK it's time to get home the girls are missing you!

So F & S I hear you have a new little guy who will be running around the farm, Truman. Boy are you guys in for lots of fun. You'll have all kinds of toys to steal ;) I hate to break it to you but I'm sure Ms. Martha won't be letting anyone have cheese curls and walking around the house. Let me tell you those are the best!!! Just remember to hang out by the high chair kids love to drop food - YUMMY!

So I had a wonderful weekend, mom was home both days and we worked in the yard. She even got out my cushion for the lounge chair. I was soaking up the rays just loving life. Yesterday was even better Nicole came over and we played in the yard. She has these pots and pans she plays with outside and it has plastic pretend food. I love to steal the food and run away from her, all the food has Zoe teeth marks now - lots of fun.

Well mom has to leave for work so that means back to bed for me.

    Zoe

  • Hello Ladies & G.K.,
G.K. it looks like you were having fun doing some exploring, but your sisters need you home to help with the spring chores. They sure do miss you when you are traveling, but congrats on all the new ribbons. My weekend had a lot or relaxing and sunning outside. Dad was working outside lots, and Mom on her business. I was outside with Dad. I hear he is going ice fishng for the last of the season, so Mom and I will be cuddle bugs when he leaves tomorrow. Zoe, glad to hear you got some rays in also. Hope everyone had a great weekend. Cora Belle, I wish you were here and my guard when I go outside late at night or early in the morning to scare off critters. Even though I am "Guido" sometimes, they really scare Mom and she is right beside me. Have a great Monday all.
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • Yes I bet you Frenchie girls miss G.K. but it won't be long and he'll be home to tell you all about his adventure...

Thanks Jan I'm doing OK, still am waiting for my new doctor to get me in for an appointment...nothing like rushing! :-(

Hubby is golfing in Tennessee with his buddies...hmmm what's wrong with this picture?? ;-)

I have to finish my art contest entries today, I have spent way too much time on this project, and now my scanner AND my camera are Kaput :-( what else can go wrong? I better think positive....yes, all will be fine!

    Have a great day everyone!

  • Hey, no fair...it was cold and rainy in Cali!! I had to sleep ALL day next to a warm fire...and eat filet mignon....(rough French Bulldog life).

  • Hi Girls & G.K.,
I know you two miss the big guy of the house, but he sure is having a great time exploring with Karen. You know she's taking really good care of him. Hold down the fort & keep the squirrels at bay, he'll be home soon.
O.K. everybody. You all had such great birthday ideas, Mimi & Papa have St. Valentines day all to themselves. Lola, I am always at a big party with people friends on New Years Eve & on New Years day, well they're done partying & I sleep all day. Celebrating the entire month as suggested by Dudley Do Right, my little buddy Basil & Abby sounds great, too. Oh, by the way Zoe, Mimi had some Jamisons & thought of you & your Mom on Saturday night! Cora Belle & Kirby, Mimi LOVES the movie Ground Hog Day and thought that would be a great day, but that Phil guy is toooo scary to share a day with.
So, the winner is..February 23..Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day! Thanks, Maddox! We can all appreciate that day! Thank you so much everybody!
    Your Pal,
    Rebel

  • Hi Beautiful Frenchie ladies and Mr. G.K.,
What a nice park for you to explore Mr.G. K. I bet the girls can't wait for you to come home so they can fill you in on the adventures at petsmart and on the farm. We are so happy for you Rebel! An official birthday on Feb. 23rd sounds great! Jojo that filet mignon and warm fire sounded fun to me. I spent yesterday as an honorary pirate dog patrolling the yard with my nephew buddy. Hope you do well in the art contest Delia and Big Kitty. Sunshine nap for me before work at the animal hospital. Hope you feel better Basil. Hope Bart had a great Irish day too- Abby the pug frenchie.

  • Hi Girl Friends &G.K.+Glue Squaders, Hi GK, it's so much fun to see and hear from you again today! I miss you like your beautiful Frenchies do! They both look and sound so sad that you are away again, but you'll be back home soon and they will be happy again! You must have had a great time touring that state park in Pennsylvania and I love to go to new places whenever possible, too! Hey Glue Squaders, sure hope you all had a great weekend! We had amazing weather from Friday until today! Each day we had wind, rain, and snow every morning and then the sun was out the rest of each day and I had fun going outside in the afternoons! Hope all of you buddies are doing well and have a great day today! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
Well GK I like to explore too. We should get together some time and explore together. If you are anywhere in eastern Georgia, just give me a call and we’ll meet up and go exploring together. My vet found something she didn’t like when my checkup was done. She wants a sample of my pee pee. Daddy said that he didn’t know how he would get it. Basil, do you have any ideas. They are checking for crystals which could turn to stones. I’ve had a change in my diet and don’t get some of my favorite treats anymore; they could cause crystals so Mommy stopped giving me them. Always check the label of everything you eat. Getting ready for spring trip I two weeks.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • HI

  • ..G.K.,good to hear from you..looks like fun at the park, I like sniffing around new places, too...Kirby try not to pee-pee on your dads hand when he gets a sample HEHEHEHE (a Maddox laugh)...yeah dudley, I am tried of waking up to snow and rain and hail...wish spring would hurry..wow..Abby a pirate dog for the day..doesn't get much better than that does it? Rebel,Feb. 23..that sounds like a fine birthday date..how does it feel to have an birthday? cool? huh?..Jo-Jo, steak and fire my idea of good combo..KItty please take care of Delia and good luck on the art contest..you know the glue squad is behind you...Basil, bristle up real big and just growl into the dark, that will get the little critters wondering and if that doesn't work tell the little offenders you know Cora-belle the cattle dog from Washington state and to check with the critters there on how tough I am...Zoe..your own lounge chair..now that is luxury...I must zip ( walk slowly) out and tell the critters to spread the word..don't scare my buddy Basil and his mom...word should reach your neck of the woods in a couple days...thank you Karen for the kind words about me..red and biege heelers are good..blue is the color I like..over and out..Cora-belle

  • You know the three of you should get some type of split screen communication device that way you could follow along with G.K. on his dog show travels and he could keep up with life on the farm.

Yay Rebel Feb. 23rd will now be your B-Day celebration day! Delia good luck with your art contest. Kirby Bear, Uh -oh, I hope your Dr. finds out what the matter is quickly. Everyone have a marvelous day!

  • Hi, Girls, G.K., & Glue Squad,
That looked like a very fun place to explore, G.K. When we travel, those are the kind of places Mom looks for to take us. We love all the new smells, and lots of times we see new people, too. Just don't have so much fun being a show dog, and exploring that you forget about your job at home, with the Frenchies! They need you, too, G.K.!!
Speaking of exploring, Zora was very bad again this weekend. She thinks she can go where ever she wants, whenever she wants, and has been very sneaky about finding ways to get out of the fence. She got out twice this weekend. the first time, Mom didn't know where or how she did it, but the second time, she was watching Fergie watch Zora, and knew right away what happened. I, Lily, then showed Mom where and how Zora got out. She had dug a hole under the fence before, but Uncle Bradley fixed it by putting sharp stones in the hole. That didn't stop Zora! She spent the last two weeks taking one sharp stone after another out of that hole, until she had a tiny place to squeeze through. I don't know how she squeezed through that little hole; she's much bigger than Fergie and I, and we couldn't have gotten through that hole without really hurting our bellies! Well, now Zora's mad at Fergie and me, thinking we told on her(we did!), and that's why we got no good treats when Mom cooked that good stuff this weeekend. No, we got no good treats because Mom was afraid of somebody getting sick again...Zora!
Glad to hear everybody is doing well, and that Karen takes such good care of you, G.K. Have a great Monday!

    Your pals,
Lily, Fergie, and, okay, Zora, too..I guess

  • Hello GK
I knew you went to the park but as I said before, I feel that whatever you do should be your story to tell. That is a real nice park and it is right up the road from Katen's place.
Rebel, Happy Belated Birthday little buddy. Karen said she is so glad that you have a special day like we all do. I am honored that you picked my choice for you. Who can resist biscuits? Hehehehehe.
Rebel, do you think Mimi can copy this next part to take to your vet?
To Rebel's vet and the staff,
This is an official notice that Rebel was born on February 23, 2005 which happens to be International Dog Biscuit Day. Please change the information on his chart to reflect this.
We are the Glue Squad and we researched for days and days to find a special date for Rebe because we love him like a brother. We would like those changes to be made immediately. Thank you very much for taking such good care of him. We are a very caring bunch of characters and we are very serious about this.
    Sincerely,
The Glue Squad from The Daily Wag
How is that gang? Sound good to you?
    Maddox

  • ..Yes, Maddox a fine idea..the offcial birthdate should be put into our buddy Rebels file as soon as possible...that is vital information!..I am so happy he has a birthdate...yikes and gazooks!! I"m sure Mimi is on it as we speak....I must eat a an extra dog biscuit to celebrate my little buddies belated birthday..over and out, Cora-belle p.s. Fergie and Lily sounds like you may have dig a trench and put fencing in the ground and connect it to your regular fence..heavy chicken wire would work..won"t look all that special but it will keep our pal Zora from tunneling out...Lucinda and James had to do that for the mini goats because those little rats would look a spot under the wire and work it till they could escape....we know all kinds of tricks to keep naughty animals in here at the farm/ranch.

  • Maddox sounds good to me. I have to have a serious conversation with my mom because I was not aware of International Dog Biscut Day.

    Zoe

  • Hello, G.K., I am so surprised there is a creek named Pohopoco! It sounds like the perfect spot for a Pekingese named Poco to visit. Have fun and be safe.

    Love,
    Poco

  • Hello all I know I didn't post.. Happy St. Patty's day!

Jumps and Jumps and Licks and Licks,
    Nadia
