Exploring a State Park in Pennsylvania
Posted by Ghenghis Khan
Yes, it’s true, I’ve been away from home for quite some time, but that’s just the way life is for a show dog. I really miss the two Frenchies, but I have plenty of company when I stay with Karen. Karen also makes sure that I get plenty of fresh air and exercise.
1 Oh Sharkey, how I miss G.K.! It feels like he's been away forever! I can't wait for him to come home!
2 Me too, Francesca. I wonder what he's doing right now.
3 Hmmm...unfamiliar territory. No matter, for I am G.K., the Intrepid Explorer!
4 Here I am, at the foothills of the Poconos, in the middle of over 3,000 acres of land. Why, this is Beltzville State Park! My father, Maddox, told me all about this place.
5 Just to my left is Pohopoco Creek, where people frequently fish. The creek connects to the much larger Beltzville Lake. I bet many early explorers stopped during their expeditions for food here!
6 Why, there looks to be some kind of tracks here. The ground is worn down a bit. I know there are over fifteen miles of trails here, but where do they start?
7 Ah, here we are! I wonder if that's pointing to Saw Mill Trail, which passes by many interesting sites like a slate quarry from the 1700s.
8 This park was originally developed by the military as part of a flood control project. It didn't even become an official park until 1972!
9 I think I'll stop for a bite to eat at one of the many picnic areas. Exploring is fun but exhausting!
