Cheer up With Flowers!

Posted by F&S

We’ve had a long stretch of some very mild weather, mostly all winter long.  It seems with all that mild weather, combined with humidity, we’ve also been having many foggy mornings, stretching into the afternoons.  What can bring cheer to gloomy days?  FLOWERS!

Sharkey! What a gray day it is! I thought for sure that with all the warm days we've been having, we'd be done with winter early!

I know what will lift us out of the gray-day blues, Francesca! Let's go early spring flower hunting and see who can find the best blossoms!

Sharkey, I bet we can use our keen canine noses to sniff out some of the bulbs underground.

Look! I found some purple puschkinia!

They're all over the place! Early spring flowers have a waxy coating on the bud and leaves to protect them from snow. These have been blooming for a while now. Look harder!

Look, at these Chiondoxa, or Glory-of-the-Snow in the woods. I love the bright blue flowers!

Oh, Franny, something pink has caught my eye!

Wait a minute, this is also Glory of the Snow! But this one is a different variety, called 'Pink Giant.'

While many people associate the crocus as the first flower of spring, Glory of Snow also begins blooming early, often poking through the snow - Thus the name!

So we both found the same flower! I guess neither of us bested the other!

Hey Betsy! Maybe you can help judge. Which are prettier - purple or pink Glory of the Snow? Oh you're right - they're both pretty! It's not really fair to compare!

  • Good Morning F & S

I vote both flowers are the best! My mom has a vase of pink and purple flowers she cut from around the yard. They smell SO good - reminds me of Easter :)

Speaking of Easter mom has to go buy the candy so we can stuff the eggs for our annual egg hunt. Us dogs love to help find them but mom gets mad we start before the kids get here ;) I'd better remind her no chocolate because if we get a warm day it will melt.

Busy day today dad and I are working on the pool. With the rain yesterday morning we got a late start. Mom was upset because the weather was nice all week while she was in work then the weekend comes and the cold and rain arrives. I won't tell her but I was happy she spent lots of time with me :)

Have a great day Glue Squad!

  • Good morning girls,
Those flowers were pretty. I bet you will find a whole lot more flowers all over the farm. It sure is a pretty place.
Zoe, you crack me up. I always go back everyday and read what I missed on the previous post. I laughed so hard when you told Chloe that you are in control of yourself and you know when you are bad. I hope your mom didn't read that. hehehehehe
It is a nice cool day today. Just right for me and Kirby Bear. Kirby, I hope you have the best time ever on your vacation.
OK, Glue Squad, start reporting in and let us know how your weekend went. I will check back later.\
    Love ya,
    Maddox

  • We are also having a grey day and cold to boot, it's 35 right now with 20 windchill, yesterday it was in the 70's....go figure! I also have those flowers Glory-of-the-Snow in my Moss garden, they are so pretty, the shooting stars are coming up too. :-)

Kitty is in her glory catting around all day, sleeping under blooming bushes...yep, and stalking all the birds building their nests.

So is it really Abby's BD? if so, have a wonderful doggie Birthday!

    Happy Monday Glue Squad!

  • Hello Ladies,
I would have to choose the purple flowers, as purple is Mom's favorite. You are both the ever curious girls. It was record breaking warm, almost 80 all weekend long. Mom and I think the racoons are starving and hunting trash around the neighborhood due to the early spring. Every night they are on the prowl. Mom locks the doggie door at 8 and then I still have to do my business 2 more times, so she yells and bangs and flashes the yard light and they still move slowly to the bridge and gate. Now she even carries me out and practically holds me during the business time. I know she is scared, but gee wiz!!! I really like my new bed in Mom's studio. She is working lots preparing for the fall sales and shows and I am her assistant. Have a great Monday all and enjoy the nice weather.
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • Hello!
Aaaaah, flowers. You just gotta Love'em. I don't care which flowers! They are both pretty... But how about fuschia Glory of the Snows?
    See you soon!
    Nadia

  • Wow, ladies!
Do you know some BIG words! The Grandchildren were lots of fun to have around this weekend. They love to give me tiny biscuits & watch me dance & high-five. There are grape hyacinths & white tulips here & lots of jonquils & daffodils. The birds are waiting for the service berry blooms to go away. The redbud is loaded this year. There are tiny flowers on the trunk all the way down to my level!
Hope you all had a great weekend. Eli & me camped out on the new porch & had a fun time.
    Til tomorrow,
    Rebel

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
The countdown is on and holding at “five.” I had to give a sample of my pee this morning. It was fun trying to miss that tray and watching Mommy trying to move it quickly. If the results aren’t good I’ll have to change my dog food. I like Lamb and Rice myself and don’t want to change. Maybe I won’t have to after all. It was a good weekend for me too. It was cooler and I had lots of naps. Speaking of naps, I think I’ll take one now.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hi Girl Friends &G.K.+Glue Squaders, F&S, you sure did have fun looking for new pretty blooming flowers there at the beautiful Bedford farm this early in spring!! I love both the white and blue ones you shared with us-they are lovely!! So fun to see wonderful Betsy and one of Martha's handsome horses, also!! It must have been warm outside because you didn't have jackets on!! So fun to head more and more from your delightful followers who must have had a great weekend and I'm sure you two girls did, too! We finally had sunshine and it was in the high 50s & low 60s here all weekend and I got to go for long walks 3 days in a row-fantastic!!! Wishing Happy Birthday to Kirby's Dad and to Abby and Chloe, hope you have fun at Doggie Boot Camp and welcome to Missy Chow! Sure hope all of you are doing well and have another great day! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Happy Birthday, Abby!
    Your Pal,
    Rebel

  • Hi Francesca, Sharkey, Basil Buddy and all the glue squad team! What beautiful spring flowers the girls found. I love the daffodils and purple crocuses in our yard. Thank you so much for the warm birthday wishes! I had a great time with my family this weekend.Mom took me to petsmart and got a new caterpillar toy and bone. We also went to a specialty shop and bought a cupcake looking dog biscuit. The whole family even sang to me! Cora Belle thanks for your barking good wishes. Basil, I am so happy ablout your new bed in the studio. Kirby feel better soon. Nicky and Kris meowy hellos and hugs. Getting ready for work, I have to bark at all the dog boarders soon. Love, Abby the pug frenchie

  • Ahhhhhh, I am sorry Abby. I didn't wish you a Happy Birthday. Now I feel like a slug
Geez. I hope you do like I do and come back to the DW a couple times a day to get
updated on everyone so you will see that I said
    HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY ABBY
I saw in someone's post that they wished Chloe a Happy Birthday also. I thought she was just a puppy, not one year old yet. Am I wrong?
Hope you can continue to eat your lamb and rice Kirby. Basil tell your mom to put one of those big old cow bells on you. I don't know if you could drag it around but it would scare the racoobs away. And now you are an assistant, wow. That is big time stuff. Congrats
    Maddox

  • Were the two of you competing for "Best in Snow". Get it, instead of Best in Show! :)

The chill has returned to NH! On went the furnace. Sun is shinning which is nice. I peaked outside and I didn't see any flower emerging early. Hmmm... maybe the neighborhood 'skwerls' nibbled on them! :)

    gail

  • You two have that very adorable "We're on an escapade" stance about you. You say you're searching for flowers but if a squirrel or two should pass your way...

Basil that story of your Mom practically holding you while taking care of business made me laugh. Kirby Bear, Maddox, and G.K. you would love the weather today in Chicago a big ol' whopping 40 degrees out. Just the other day it was close to 80. :frown:

Bunnies upstairs and getting ready for doggie shows. Boy are the Glue Squadders busy kids have a great day!

  • Hi Girls & Glue Squad, I would say that I like the purple flowers better; thanks for sharing. Mom's flowers are slowly getting there; but not quite ready to open. Well, my weekend was very busy; had a "D" appt Saturday and then training - training went pretty well if I say so myself; except for a couple of "barkers" in class. It was alittle difficult to hear the teacher but I managed okay. I was pretty proud of myself when we finished, and know I have a few things to work on. Mom has been working with me but I sometimes get too distracted to listen to her, guess that comes from being a pup! The weather today is much cooler than last week; but sunny. Kirby, how you're results come out okay. Enjoy your vacation. Basil, I bet you are a great assistant to your Mom. Happy Birthday, Abby!

    Till next time,
    Missy Chow
    xoxo

  • Hi Maddox, Sorry I must have written my comment a bit goofy when I wished Kirby's Dad and Abby Happy Birthday and in the same sentence I told Chloe I hoped she did well at the Doggie Boot Camp. I'd had a tracheal collapse earlier and so probably wasn't thing clearly. Mom helped me breathe again and I'm OK. Hope everyone is doing well! Nice to hear from Gail, Sonya, and Kirby Bear, sure hope you are OK! I love all of you! Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • ..hi fellow glue squaders..well, this has been quite the day..Lucinda tore a fingernail off while outside working on a project..that did look like it hurt!..I rushed over to see what the problem was and she thanked me later for being so helpful..nice weather and I have been practicing walking around the yard with no leash..I hear talk of a outdoor pen for me so I don't fall in the river unsupervised..getting old is not for the faint of heart!..our drive-way is lined with spring blooming flowers..looks festive..I must go check on Lucinda and eat a snack..over and out Cora-belle

  • I had a good time... we went to the park and I found a half eaten hot dog... but of course I didn't eat it... I am NOT Cora-Belle... I do love crocuses... what about you? Whatever... I had a good time anyways at the park but a little girl kept chasing me and shouting, " Kitty, Kitty! come here Kitty!" So I growled and got in trouble for growling. But the girl ran away, thank goodness...
And I went down some slides when Mommy wasn't looking...
    Love,
    Nadia
PS sometimes I do Love instead of Jumps and licks...

  • This blog is very interesting. Thanks for sharing about animals. Please keep it up.
