A Strange Van in our Driveway

Posted by F&S

While we, Frenchies, were out and about the other day looking for spring flowers around the farm, we happened to notice a strange work van parked in the driveway.  Being the curious dogs that we are, this odd sighting called for a full-scale investigation!

Sharkey, there's an unfamiliar van parked in the driveway! Why do you suppose it's here? As always, we better go and investigate!

Hmmm...what is that I smell? I'm sure I can figure it out. After all, the part of our canine brains devoted to identifying scents is forty times larger than in humans brains! That's pretty sizable.

Ah-ha! I remember that smell too, Sharkey! Remember last summer when new carpet was installed in the tenant house?

You're right, Francesca! Martha must be having new carpets installed.

And these rolls must be the new rugs. Come to think of it, didn't you say the carpets in the Winter House were missing yesterday?

That's right, Francesca. I went to say hello to the canaries and noticed that the furniture and rugs were missing! It was really quite strange!

Well Sharkey, quit your daydreaming and let's go check out the Winter House!

Look, on the porch! I found some rug padding and tools! They definitely must be inside.

  • Hello Ladies,
You two are certainly the female version of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. I bet the carpet laying crew was happy to see such lovely and cute faces. I will be excited to see how the outcome looks. How was everyone's weekend? Really warm here--70's and all week. Maddox I think you should be allowed to speek a bit on behalf of your son, but I guess rules are rules. Cora Belle, you and I are both doing so well, you with lower meds and me with getting back on my feet after the big bladder surgery. I feel the best I have in ages. Wednesday is "D" day though---the doctor visit. I know it is just a recheck, but after all those tubes and seeing the pink elephants, I better go straight home this time. How was your checkup Friday Rebel? Zoe, I'll bet you will soon be helping Mom plant in the garden!!!! LOL!!! Have a great Monday all and I can hardly wait to hear how your weekend was...
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • Good morning girls,
You sure take good care of things and make sure everyrhing is going as it should be on the farm. Good job. Have you heard from your brother GK yet? Karen sent me a text and said they are still driving home from Tennessee. That is all she said. Oh yeah, she did say that she was looking at the cattle dogs and she saw some light tan or beige colored ones. She thought all cattle dogs were the same color as our beautiful Cora-Belle. I sent GK a text but he didn't reply. I bet Karen didn't give hm a phone to use to text his dear old dad. I might have to go along to shows sometime. Then I can send a "sneaky text" to the DW. Hehehehehe.
I can't wait to hear about everyone's weekend. Hope it is all good. Catch you in a bit. I am going to bed now. I was watching the late late news to see if they had anything on about GK at the show, but no!!!!
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Good Monday Morning!
New Carpet - that's always exciting stuff at my house except I have to be sure my paws are extra clean each time I come in from the outside. Maddox, you certainly are a good Father to GK. Of course you need to know how he's doing in Tennessee. The weekend was good here especially yesterday. Gram even washed the black car's hub caps! During a walk in the woods we spotted little white snow drops blooming and the daffs should be blooming in about a week. Today... it's back to rain and gray skies.. Ugh!

  • Good Morning F&S and GK,

You girls sure are great investigators. I have so much to tell everyone. First.....I went on my first road trip in the car with Mom and Abbie. We went to Pet Smart. I was so excited :) I got some new bones and I was hoping to get a raincoat like you girls were modeling last week, but there was nothing in my size. I was so dissapointed :( Maybe you girls can talk to Martha and have some big sizes made. Also, mom started her garden. She put a fence all around it so I can't get in to dig. Sill trying to get in there but it is pretty well closed it. But I wont give up. And finally this morning mom put the TP up high in the bathrooom so I couldn't get to it, so i decided to take the rug that is in there out into the yard. You should have seen the look on moms face when she saw me chewing it in the yard. LOL
All the kids were over fishing too this weekend, so I got to play alot more.:)
Basil, I am so glad you are doing good. I have been thinking about you and all my DW friends.
Well, hope everyone has a great day and enjoy this weather!!!

    Chloe xx

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
You two are doing a good job while GK is away. Someone has to look after the driveway and check out everyone who enters. That’s part of my job around here; check things out. I haven’t helped lay carpet but I did get to help Daddy rip some of it up. That was fun until I got some of that dust in my nose. I have found that no matter how hard one works at keeping the carpet clean, some of that dust will always be under it. People think that in Georgia we have a lot of clay in our dirt. Not so, we have sandy soil in places. That sand always seems to get inside no matter how hard you try to keep it out. Oh yeah, it was very warm here this weekend with lots of pollen flying around.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hey Ladies,
New carpeting, how exciting. Sure glad you two keep a close eye on the comings & goings. I can hardly wait to see how this project turns out!
Well, glue squad, I don't know exactly when my birthday is, but we guess I was born in Jan or Feb 2005. So, we know I'm 7 years old now. My Dr. Becky listened to my heart & told me I have developed a murmur. She said that it was something that can happen & I shouldn't be worried. I had my 3 year rabies, my kennel-cough shot & another one. She stuck my leg with needle (I couldn't watch!!)and drew blood, checked my ears & trimmed my nails.....
All the usual stuff. I go back at the end of April to get my teeth cleaned...Hey, Basil, will I see pink elephants, too? Maybe....
    Have a great day everybody.
    Your Pal,
    Rebel

  • Hello you all.
We had 70's for a couple of days, then BAM, rain and hail. :(
    Gr....
By the way, you lovely little Frenchies are surely the detectives! You can try to solve " the case of the missing dog bone I buried last summer and maybe forgot that I ate it or buried it somewhere else" case.
Hi, Maddox. How come your son doesn't post? How come Francesca and Sharkey don't post? Oh, well, that's expected. HEY- Martha Stewart should post.

Anyways, my older brother Westie from the same mom but different litters, he's REALLY old, is always annoyed at me because I like to play. :( He LOVES to sleep.

But, then again, my human brother, the youngest of all my human siblings, is all for fun! Yeah! :)

    XD XD XD XD

    Jumps and Licks,
    Nadia

  • Hi Girl Friends &G.K.+ Glue Squaders, I just love seeing both of you girls being great investigators and helpers at Martha's Bedford farm!! You are so friendly to people you discover and you do a great job smelling anything and figuring out what it is! I do the same thing and Mom is always amazed! Sure hope GK is back real soon-miss him! When do you get to meet sweet year old Jude's new baby brother Truman? I'm sure you'll get excited about that! I not only enjoy reading your Daily Wag, but how fun to read all of our Glue Squaders daily comments!! Hey Cora-Belle, I sure understand how frustrated you felt over the weekend-wish people would be more considerate! I am so glad that all of you are doing so well and my thoughts and prayers are always with you! Our weekend was rainy, windy and kind of cold and it is supposed to be the same all week until next Saturday! Can't wait for the sun to come back out! Hope all of you have a terrific day today! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • It's tool belt time. Shouldn't you ladies have your cute tool belts along. That would be so cute to see you two with tool belts and the tape measure out measuring the carpet. I would totally watch that 'Home Improvement' segment.

How did things go for big boy G.K.? Maddox you may need to have a chit chat with Karen. After all, you are the boy's father. Rebel sounds like everything was good and you've good Dr.s to monitor the murmur. Hopefully it will go away. Basil, singing praises for you big boy that you are doing so well again. Chloe I knew you were in plotting mode for the garden. Lola and Kirby Bear, looks like you two are on house patrol.

  • Seems like there's always something going on at your place and certainly interesting to check it out and maybe even learn something, not only for you two Frenchie's, but for myself. ;-)
Have you guys heard from G.K.???

I have to run, I'm getting together with my Twin Sister Alexandra, we will celebrate our Birthday together.

It's hard to belief how fast life goes by, I must enjoy and accomplish something everyday just to Thank God for giving me a second chance since my cancer 20 yrs ago.

Everyone have a Grateful Day! :-)

  • Quite the little investigators! I'm convinced my little yorkie has attention deficit disorder. She'll start such an investigation intensively, but somehow gets distracted by a meager leaf blowing in the wind. Oh well, she's lucky she's cute.

  • Hey there F & S

Is this weather beautiful or what! I was out on the deck all day yesterday catching some rays it was wonderful. Today I'm out with dad working on the pool.

So mom planted her spring garden this weekend. This morning I heard her saying that her body hated her, she was one sore pup. I think she said she put in 63 plants - crazy woman. I watched it was too nice to work.

I hope mom didn't put the whamies on us East coast people, she put away the snow shovels. If we get snow blame my mom - I told her to wait.

    Well back to work

    Zoe

  • Happy birthday Delia, hope you and your sister had fun day...it is wet and miserable..and I am feeling espically weary today..Rebel, glad the vet visit went well.. Maddox tell Karen there are red cattle dogs, too, my pal, the Rototiller that lives in Henderson, Nv., is red and head strong just like when i was young...Can hardly wait to hear from our buddy G.K., no matter how he did..he is a winner and i am proud to know him...Chloe, be happy you did not have wear a stupid homemade cashmere vest like I did, the outdoor critters are still making fun of me...but it did keep me warm and dry...Basil, so good to hear you feel so perky..makes me happy...Dudley watch out for the high wind warnings...gusts to 85 expected here..I bettter go batten down the hatches...these Pacific coast storms can be severe..over and out..Cora-belle

  • oh..no! it is snowing out..about 3 inches on the ground..what happened to the wind and rain...I will have to put my stupid vest on to go out...Cora-belle

  • Hi Glue Squad,
GK sent me an email today. He told me what happened in Tennessee but I promised I would let him or his sisters post about it. He is the one that was there and it is his story to tell. I am sure it will be told soon.
    Maddox

  • Hi, Girls, G.K., & Glue Squad!
Good thing you girls were on the job! Somebody needs to keep track of the comings and goings. Your farm sure seems like a busy place!
It was rainy and cool all weekend here. Mom made us go out anyways(YUCK!), and I still don't have a raincoat!! I know what you mean about sizes, Chloe, Mom says my back half sticks out of everything too much, that I'd still get wet. She says it's hard to find Basset clothes, but we'll keep trying! Fergie never minds the rain, but she even wanted to come in this weekend. Today was great outside though, and we spent it on squirrel patrol(Fergie), and snoozing in the sun(me). If your vest would fit me, I'd wear it, Cora-Belle. It's not that bad, is it?? I would rather wear a funny vest than to be cold and wet, I think-I don't like cold!
Maddox, I bet G.K. had something really good happen-that's why he's waiting to tell! Happy Birthday to Delia, hope you and your sister got good treats! Glad that everyone is doing well, Mom says it's bathtime(again-sigh), and I've got to go....

    Your pals,
    Lily & Fergie
