Shopping for Farm Supplies

Posted by Ghenghis Khan

There’s a lull right now in my dog show schedule.  My next championship will be at the 136th annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show held at Madison Square Garden in New York City on February 13!  That’s right!  I, Ghenghis Khan, have been invited to show and we’re all very excited about that.  If I happen to win on the 13th, I will return on the 14th to compete in Best of Show!  So, in the meantime, I’m keeping myself busy by helping with the farm chores.  The other day, the Frenchies and I went with Uncle Carlos to a really neat store to pick up some farm supplies.

I just love going to the Tractor Supply Company. This is a one-stop shopping destination for farm pups like us!

GK, Francesca, this place has everything! Look at all of these animal books! Maybe we should get that Donkey Companion to help us understand the donks?

Come on, girls. We need to focus on the task at hand. Excuse me, sir? Can you point us in the right direction for chicken coop supplies? We're looking for some special lightbulbs...

We put heat lamps in the chicken coops to make sure the chickens and roosters keep warm in the winter. They don't have your warm double coat, G.K.

We are also picking up some more heated bases for the chickens. You set the poultry waterers on top of the bases so the water won't freeze. We need to make sure our feathered friends stay well-hydrated!

What do you think, GK and Francesca? Let's ask Uncle Carlos if we can all get matching go-karts! These would be so much more fun to ride on around the farm than the Kawasaki!

  • We just had to let you know how much we enjoy seeing everything you do on the farm to help out. We, Fergie, the Bull Terrier, and Lily, the Basset, are best friends, and have grown up together, and have gone to many dog shows together. Our mom takes us to Tractor Supply as a special treat, when one or the other of us is getting Mom-alone-with-me-time. We LOVE that place...all the wonderful smells, people fussing over us, and, yes, treats, too! Good luck to you, GK at Westminster. I, Fergie, am entered in a regional specialty show for Bull Terriers(which I have won at before) here in Florida this month; my mom thinks I have a chance to do very well, because we have worked very hard to get me ready for it. Let's hope we both do well, GK!!

  • Dear F&S and GK
GK, you are a champion. I am sure you can win. I will keep my paws cross for you. Sparkle.

  • Good morning girls and GK,

GK,that is wonderful news about the dog show. Good luck. I'm sure you will do great. You are such a handsome fella. (I'll message you in private with my number LOL)
F&S, looks like you all had a great time on your shopping trip. I hope you got all your supplies for the chickens. I heard mom and Aunt Ann (Zoe"s mom) might be going to a farm this weekend to get some fresh eggs. I hope so cause maybe mom will make me some scrambled eggs. I love them.
ALl the snow is gone here, but I had a great time playing in it yesterday morning. OH, and I have another new friend. His name is Colt and he is a border collie who just moved in a few houses down the street.
Well, off to the sofa on the deck to take my morning nap before sister Abbie gets up for school. I need to be rested so I can nibble on her feet while she puts her socks and shoes on for school. LOL
Hope you all have a great weekend.

    Chloe xx

  • Good Morning - Happy Friday :)

GK Westminster - WOW!! I'll have to watch you on TV with mom I'll make sure she sets the DVR so we don't miss it.

So can I ask a question why is it that when humans go to see the doctor they get their temperature taken under their tongue or with that new one that rolls on your farhead and when I go to the doctor I get a cold stick stuck up my butt!!! That is so not fair!! I had to get a shot, blood test and then my nails cut which I fought the entire time. Can I tell you I had the day from hell! Dr. Keefe said I'm doing great and keeping my gorgeous figure at 19 pounds :) Precious got the same things done but she just sits there and is all behaved and everything - very boring if you ask me. I do love her she treats me like I'm her puppy :)

Yesterday I got in trouble, chewed up another one of Dad's books. Well I should say I didn't start the chew fest I just knocked it off the end table then we all had fun. He was not happy when he came home and saw the family room filled with paper. Oh well you know what they say S*%# happens ;)

Enjoy your weekend everyone - be safe!

  • Good morning GK,
I am very happy that you are helping with the chores again on your off time. You are a good son. Maybe you, Francesca and Sharkey could pool your allowance money together and buy one of those karts. You could strap little baby Jude in and take her for rides too.
Cora-Belle, I didn't realize that cattle dogs are double coated also. You still wearing your sweater? You better. We don't want you getting sick. By the way, how did everyone make out that had to go to the vet this week? No one reported how they did.
I see we have some new friends posting comments. That is a good thing. Chloe, you better leave that bunny alone. Any animal that lives with you becomes part of your family. If you "dispose" of that bunny, we will start calling you Hannibal Lector. Try TP and Barbie Dolls. That seems to work for Zoe.
Well Glue Squad, another weekend approaches. Have fun, but don't get in trouble trying to have fun.
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Holy Cow that must be a large shopping cart to fit all three of you in there! GK you are so beautiful, I can see why you are shown and winning...mommie delia and I wish you much success in the next show.

Sharkey those lip licking photos of you are precious and funny!

Happy New Year Carlos! Tell F&S not even the magazine "Donkey Companion" will help you understand the donks...they have a mind of their own.

I just remembered that mommie delia has some of those heat lamps that she used in the stalls, maybe they can help me when I'm outside in the cold...OK maybe not!

Did anyone see the video of the Boston/Frenchie type dog barking at a cat? Then the cat came after the dog and the dog jumped on the couch where there was another dog and cried the whole time...it's hilarious...hurray for the Gato! Well it's funny anyway.

    Kitty =^..^= & delia

  • Hi Girl Friends &G.K., I absolutely love seeing all three of you together shopping at that terrific shop, the Tractor Supply Company! Sure would love to have been there with you and would love to have a treat, also! These photos and your comments are awesome! How fun it would be to have one of those neat go-karts-maybe you'll get some later! How fun it is to hear from more followers lately! Your blog posting is the best there is for all of us to enjoy! Hope everyone has a great weekend and stay well! Love Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Hello Ladies & G.K.,
How lucky you all are, getting to go to the Tractor Store. I never thought about it, but you are right about the warming trays for the water and lights to keep the chickens warm. Such good caretakers you all are. I just realized in reading Chloe's blog that Abbie is the one that you, Miss Zoe, chewed the Barbie doll head off of. Did Santa get you your very own Barbie, Zoe? And G.K., I will indeed mark my calendar for the Westminster dog show. I am glad to see that it hasn't gone to your head and you still are a great brother and helping the girls. You all look so festive and fun in the shopping cart. Well, the vet's was kind of a shock to Mom and I. I just went in for my routine every 6 months blood and urine check because of my meds I am on, and the next thing I know (it is worse than the butt stick for a temp) there are tubes and lights and everyone under God is looking at my talleywacker. Yucko and double yucko!!! They are waiting for the results today of the bloodwork and urine work, but thought there were obstructions you know where. I gained 1 and 1/2 pounds and think they are all full of you know what. Anyway, it threw Mom in a tizzy and she is very worried when she heard the word tumor possibly. If I hear the results today I will let you all know. She says she just can't wait over the weekend for the results. Keep your paws crossed for me. Mom always has great stories to tell of all the friends she meets in the waiting room while I get stuff done. You see this is a special doctor's office where there are lots of fancy doctors---like eye doctors and nerve doctors and special doctors that treat me and some that treat cancer. They all love me, but this looking at my privates put me into just a collaspe when I got home. I just went in front of the fire place and bam, there I was for about 3 hours. I am myself now, trying to forget the embarrassment, but hoping I am o.k. Keep your paws crossed for me and congratulations again my champion friend G.K. Maddox you must be very proud indeed.
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • OH G.K., how exciting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Mom just knew that you would be there!! Mom is going to WKC for the first time this year and she is very, very exicited, Just wait until she hears this news!!!

She just bought a new big, fancy lens for her camera for the event, so I will tell her to take lots of pictures of you and if she gets any really good ones I'll send them along to you and Martha!!!!!

Now I will have a real dilema - who do I cheer for in the Non-sporting group, you or that beautiful, black poodle named London (aka Jaset's Satisfaction)??????

I'll just cheer you both on and let the judges decide!!

    Good Luck, Big Boy!!

    Finnegan

  • Hi everybody!
What a cart full! It's great you can go shopping together. Keeping the chickens warm & happy is so important. We want them to keep laying those beautiful eggs!
You all looked super sporty on the go-carts, uh, were's the motors?
G.K., we are all so proud of you. We'll be watching! I know you'll do your best.
Hey Zoe, really now girlfriend! Chewing a book is really naughty! Barbies & T.P, not so much.
Basil, buddy, I agree, checking out those private parts really gets a guy in a tizzy. I do like my vet, Dr. Becky, to trim my nails. She holds me so nice and talks to me so softly, I almost go to sleep.
Speaking of sleep, I think I'll find my favorite sunny spot for a snooze.
    Good weekend to all,
    Rebel

  • ..first off, Basil, buddy, we are anxious to hear the results too,I know first hand all that poking around your body wears a dogger out..please, just rest and think positive..(which i know is very hard)..love you basil..now on the other hand naughty Zoe,your pal Percious probably secretly laughs when you have your temp taken...Yes, Maddox, I wear my stupid homemade vest outside when it is freezing..double coated or not..Lucinda stuffs me in it...and we cattle dogs are so proud of G.K.,I know all about farm store shopping..used to get mini-goat chow and supplies for the farm/ranch...we have scaled back alot here at the farm/ranch..we are all getting older...must go for a walk-about..over and out...Cora-belle p.s. let us know about Basil as soon as possible ..also finnegan give the herding dogs a cheer..especially if you see an Australian cattle dog..

  • Yo Basil..back from a short walkabout..went down to the river which is right out my back door and told all my raccoon buddies about you..Rocky, my favorite with with half chewed off ear and her four kis where there bugging around...they listened and then let me bark and bark at them and Rocky let me chase her..she waddled and I walked semi-fast and she turned around and touched me on my snout ...think she did that for you Basil..a wild raccoon rarely does that without tearing a dogs nose off..but Rocky is my buddy...so the farm/ranch raccoons are rooting for you...cora-belle

  • Wow- What a fun post today!

Congratulations to G.K.! I never doubted you!

Was that a 'donk' book I spotted. :)

Or better yet, DIY go carts, via the 'goats'...

    Goat-karts! :)

    Happy Weekend...

  • Hello Blogger Buddies,
We heard back from the doctor and I do not have an infection but do have a growth in my bladder. They are running one more test on my urine (while they have a supply this is good) and will have the results back next week. The urine test will not tell exactly what it is, but it will 95% rule out if there is no cancer. If it is cancer the doctor said he will do another ultra sound next month, but bladder tumors rarely go into the lymph nodes and are very slow growing. If they felt it should be removed the doctor said it involves reconstructing parts of the bladder, and would be hard on an old boy like me. I am trying to keep Mom calm and keep telling her I am not in pain now and that is good. Everyone keep your paws crossed still, that it won't be a bad type tumor. Have any of you heard of friends that have had this sort of thing? Mom is researching about it this weekend. We are thinking positive and keeping our hopes up. Till next week.
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • Attention Glue Squad

Just heard from Basil's mom Lynn and his blood tests did not come back like we hoped. Our boy Basil needs lots of prayers from his DW buddies. As you know I just love Basil and if we lived closer I would have his puppies :)

Basil you are in my thoughts and prayers!!

    Love and lots of licks

Zoe and all your friends here at the DW

  • "Go go G.K. Go go G.K. Go Go G.K Goooo!!!" (to the tune of the Speed Racer theme end line) G.K. this is so impressive, Westminster Kennel Dog Show in your very short career. Go get 'em big boy! Francesca & Sharkey you look like little super heroes in your red jacket. You all are super heroes for helping MommyM keep the farm going by helping out and doing your chores.

Well Basil Boy, I know you feel embarrassed to have the Docs in your personal space like that but do remember that they are trying to help you stay as healthy as you can. Zoe, glad that yours and Precious' vet appointment went well.

Sending out special prayers and thoughts to less fortunate animals out there who simply want to find a home and be loved. Extra special thoughts go out to service animals who do their jobs with honor and dignity yet are cruelly taken away by control freak Sherriffs with an angry agenda. The Rainbow Bridge awaits you.

  • Oh Basil, I hope and pray that it is not a bad tumor.
I will pray for you buddy. Ir was good news that you don't have an infection. So, we go from here. Tell your mamma Lynn to stay strong and keep doing research on it. And tell your doctor you are not old. We know a dog that was 17 years old and he needed an operation and the vet said he was too old for the operation. The dog's owner said he wanted it done, he wanted to do everything he could for his dog. Guess what, the dog is now 19, hard of hearing and moves a little slow, but he is fine.
Don't ever give up hope. Tell mamma Lynn to let us know what she finds out when she does the research. Tell her to keep in contact with us this weekend, as that will make her feel better. After all, we are the Glue Squad and we stick together and support each other in every way we can.
Love and hope to you Basil and Lynn,
    Maddox

  • Hi everyone,
Maddox left me know about Basil. I just want to let Basil and Lynn know that they are in my thoughts and prayers. Lynn, I know what you are feeling. My situation was different, but the worrying was the same. Keep busy doing your research and try to keep busy. Stress can do awful things to a person so try to focus on positive things. Basil, you have been through so much for such a little guy but I know you from the DW and I know you are a fighter. I also know you have a positvie attitude and that is a big plus. Please keep us posted and hang in there.
    Love to you always,
    Karen

  • Basil, you, are in our thoughts and prayers...try to keep positive my little buddy..love, Cora-Belle, Lucinda and James

  • Basil I pray for your Health! and Kitty says she wants you to be OK...

    Love,
    delia & Kitty =^..^=

  • Hi Great Friend Basil, Thanks for letting us know the results from your vet that you have so far. I have been praying for you forever and am praying even more lately for you and your Mom! Please Dear God protect our buddy and his Mom-they both need you now. Basil, your attitude is fantastic and you are handling all of this very well. My Mom's beautiful dog Cricket was here when I was rescued and she was my favorite pal. She had been rescued also and unfortunately she had a ruptured disk and canine cushings disease that Mom discovered when she was checked by Mom's vet. Mom did all she could to protect Cricket, but unfortunately the ruptured disk took her away when she couldn't walk anymore-we still miss her. Our prayers are with you too Cora-Belle and we are so happy you are doing better, also. We hope all of you are as healthy as can be and our prayers are with all of you all the time. Have a great weekend everyone! We love you all so much, Dudley Do Right and Jan XOXOXO+

  • Dear F&S and GK,

I have a doggie friend I would like you to meet. She is a very talented dog. She can open up Christmas presents, here is her video.

  • Hi again,
Thank you so much Zoe, for updating us on our very special Glue Squad member, Basil. That little guy has gone through so much and he is still very upbeat, which is a good thing. He is a positive kind of guy. I am going to pray that the doctors can do something to help him. Lynn, I wish we could send you cards for Basil so you would know how much everyone cares about him and you, but I think you already know that.
One more thing, I want to thank the DW staff for going the extra mile. You continue our posts over the weekend when you could just let them go till Monday. You are very special to the Glue Squad. You help to keep us connected.
Basil, as long as you feel good, focus on that and enjoy the weekend. Love ya little buddy.
    Maddox

  • Hi Basil, Sunday morning and sunny here in southwest Washington ..thinking about you..am going for a walk and give all the critters I see some barks for you...over and out..Cora-belle
