Sensing a Stranger at the Farm

Posted by Francesca

The other day, I got a whiff of something strange at the farm, like the presence of an alien creature.  Then, I saw a flash of an auburn color out of the corner of my eye and I realize that there was an alien creature at the farm!!

Sharkey! I spotted some auburn fur outside! At first I thought it was GK, but he's fast asleep in the kitchen! Let's go to the brown room and look out of those windows.

Why Francesca, you're right! There's another dog on the property! I'll just stand here at the window and bark loudly and incessantly!

Who is that large dog? Did Martha get another without telling us? I can't imagine having to get used to another dog!

I don't think Martha would do such a thing. It is curious though...the dog appears to be a golden retriever. What do we know about that breed?

Golden retrievers were originally kept as companion animals by hunters. Hunters would shoot fowl and their trained dogs would retrieve the unfortunate feathered creatures, hence the breed name.

They are very intelligent and are often used as guide dogs. They are also very loyal to their owners. Let's look around, Francesca. Maybe this one's owner is nearby.

Oh Sharkey, now I recognize that dog! It's our pal Dodi!

Dodi is Alex's dog. Alex cares for Martha's house in East Hampton. Oh Franny, it's just been such a long time since we last visited! I miss those summer days by the beach.

Hey there, Frenchies! I've missed you two in East Hampton, so I thought I'd come visit you for a change! But, Sharkey, do you think you could stop your barking already?

  • Hello Ladies & Daily Wag Buddies,
I have a song to sing---(sing it to the tune of Hit the Road Jack):
St. Peter came callin' and I said no---hit the road Jack, and don't you come back, no more, no more, no more, hit the road Jack!!!!
Yes, that is the tune I have been singing since I heard from the doctor late today. He called with the news I knew he would have all along....the Bladder Tumor Antigen was NEGITIVE. Yes, blogger buddies you did it again. You prayed and helped me through this, what could have been a nightmare. The doctor said he was quite surprised at the results. I have a less than 10% chance of the growth being cancer. He said it is practically never seen to be cancer with the test being negitive. Mom and I were pretty scared, I must admit. We had decided to have surgery if necessary. But now, I can plan my Bronco party for Saturday night against New England. Sorry Zoe and Chloe, New England will fall.hehehehe!!! Aren't I just being a silly guy??? I have to go in next month for another ultra sound and the doctor will keep a close watch on me. Thank you all for being the best buddies I (and Mom) could have. If I could smoke a cigar and have a scotch like in the movies to celebrate, I would.

Now to today's post. The retreiver looks so friendly.
We have one, Tucker, who lives behind us and I do the Guiedo thing with him. Mom says he is really friendly. But I bark too.

Have a great day everyone and thanks again for being there for Mom and I. I have never met any of you, but feel so very close to you all.
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • Dear F & S
I remember reading about Dodi from so many blogs ago. He is such a handsome chap. Sharkey, you are barking maybe because absence makes a heart fonder?:)Sparkle.

  • hi frenchies..your pal, Dodi is a pretty doggie...every now and then Sasha, the siberian husky comes up the road and visits us..she is young and goofy and runs like the wind..so I just say hi out the window to her, because she would knock me over ..not because she is mean but rough and tumble and I'm too old to rough house anymore...it is time for me to take some of my meds and go to bed..I am worn out..later cora-belle

  • Good morning girls,
Dodi is a very nice looking dog. That was very nice of Dodi to
come to visit with you. You should tell Dodi to
    join us on the DW.
Hey Cora-Belle, you should tell all the critters
that you were presented your sweater vest by the
Cattledog Association for your outstanding work
in chasing critters. That way, they won't laugh
at it and they will tell all the other critters to watch
out for the dog with the sweater vest cause she is the
best of the best at critter chasing,
    love to all,
    maddox

  • The last time we saw Dodi he and G.K. were having a big time rumblefest. Did those two go at it again or now that G.zzk. is busy preparing for Westminster, he doesn't engage in such activities anymore? Sharkey you are so funny, barking up a storm from the safety of your house.

Basil I hope you are relaxing and taking things easy. Cora-Belle be a good girl and wear that sweater. Pay no attention to those other critters, they just want one for themselves.

  • Good Morning F & S

Good job on sniffing out the stranger Franny. Mom tells me that Golden Retrievers are the cutest pups, I beg to differ. That was nice that Dodi came for a visit. I hear ya when it comes to longing for summer I miss my lounge chair.

Mom got an email from Lynn last night our Basil got good news on his test results :) All our prayers worked!!

Well I'm getting cut short on computer time today mom has to head out for meetings.

  • WAA HUU Basil
    GREAT NEWS.
I sang your song for an hour and now I am horse but it was worth it. hehehehehehehe
Lynn, take a deep breath and relax. I know you were very stressed about our little Basil's health issues. We all were. Soooooooooo, he is doing good, Cora-Belle is wearing her sweater vest and resting and taking her meds when she is supposed to, anybody else have issues going on? I hope not but if you do, we are here for you.
    Love,
    Maddox

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
I didn’t know that Frenches were guard dogs. I guess that I thought that most smaller dogs were just for sitting on laps. When all the fireworks were going off at New Years, I found myself on my Mommy’s lap. My 55 pounds didn’t stay there too long so I tried Daddy’s lap too. What good news from Basil; hit the road Jack is right. Now I’ll be singing that all day long. It’ll be stuck in my head. But it’s such good news I’ll just sing it out.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • What a handsome duo Dodi and Alex are...I vaguely remember Dodi in another post.

Kitty looked out the downstairs patio door the other day and there she saw a huge dog running around, it turns out that dog was a coyote drinking from the water bowl....Yikes that scared her!

Basil my dear, what great news of your medical report!:-) Never underestimate the power of prayer, even for animals ;-)

This morning I saw the Moon bright and white on one side of the house and on the other side the orange globe of the sun coming up...WOW both at the same time...I just love it! :-)

    delia & Kitty =^n^=

  • Morn' Frannie,
I get riled up when a stranger comes into my yard, too. I put my fur up so I can look as big and mean as possible. Then I give them the loudest barks I can. Mimi says that Golden Retrievers are great dogs. I think they're good looking, too. Hey, Cora Belle, I know about not playing with younger dogs. They just wear a guy out.
To my buddy Basil, Love that song! We are so very happy for your good news.
Mimi & Papa were really loud during the Broncos game. Lots of WAHOOing was going on! Mimi said the Bears hit the skids (again). Sounds like a couple of Bronco fans at our house.
    Til tomorrow!
    Your pal, Rebel

  • Good Morning Friends,

Great news Basil!! Me and mom have been praying for you.
F&S.... I have a golden retriever named Chance who lives across the street. Haven't met him yet, but I can see him through the fence. He does alot of barking. I will be starting my next training classes next week. Mom is going tonight to sign me up. I heard there is a pug and some labs in the class with me. I hope they are freindly. Mom is nervous already about taking me. I am a handful to take in the car. LOL.
We have had so many geese on the lake this past week since the temps have been so warm. They are driving me crazy with all the honking going on. Aren't they suppose to be flying somewhere....anywhere except my yard!!!!
Oh, and Basil... I think mom is going to be cheering for Tim Tebow. She thinks he"s cute hehe.
    Have a great day everyone!!!!!

    Chloe xx

  • Hi Girl Friends &G.K., OMG! You girls are such protectors of Martha's home there at Bedford and probably the other homes, too! I always bark whenever I see someone I don't recognize, also. I also remember seeing Dodi when you were in East Hampton last summer, I think. That sure is a beautiful Golden Retriever and they are always friendly, especially the ones I see when we take a long walk! How nice that Alex came to the farm with Dodi! My Dear Basil, I am so thrilled that your vet gave you and Mom that great news and I am so sure that you will be so much better as time goes by! My prayers are with you and all of our buddies forever! Beautiful friend Cora-Belle, you are handling things so well and my prayers are with you as usual! Love to read everyones comments daily! Hope you all have another great day! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Aw, Dodi is adorable...

Actually, I really like her name.

I wonder if she was named after Dodi Stevens of the "Pink Shoe Lace" song? :)

    gail

  • Basil, thank goodness..so happy to hear the good news...love, cora-belle p.s. the glue squad rocks!

  • Hi everyone,
Just a short message to let Basil and Lynn know that I am so happy for them that they got good news. We were all thinking about the both of you. Watch out for the coyotes Kitty. Rebel, your Mimi and Papa sound like big sports fans. I like Nascar racing. Good luck with your classes Chloe and Cora-Belle, you keep wearing your fabulous sweater vest. I bet you look very stylish when you have it on.
    Take care everyone,
    Karen
PS - It is good that you girls guard the farm for Martha. Next time wake lazy bones GK up and get him to help you.

  • Love the Frenchie protective power! My Frenchie has a golden retriever friend Boisy who gets down on his stomach so she can hop all over him. She only really barks in play though.
