G.K.'s Time in Maryland

Posted by Ghenghis Khan

Last week, Francesca blogged about me travelling to Maryland to compete in another dog show.  With the Westminster Kennel Club Show quickly approaching, my breeder, Karen Tracy and my handler, Jan Kolnik want me to get as much experience as possible.  Here are Karen's photos showing what happened in Maryland.

Rather than rooming in a hotel, Gerry Roberts has graciously invited us to stay with her in her comfortable home.

Gerry is an excellent hostess. She definitely knows a thing or two about chow chows, as she co-owns my father, Maddox, with Karen Tracy.

Jan and Dad, let's pose for a nice photo by the fireplace!

Hotels are nice, but they don't offer great fenced in yards, like this one, where I am free to run around. Hey, what's that over there?

It's a black squirrel perched on Gerry's cast iron squirrel garden ornament! Wouldn't Francesca and Sharkey absolutely go nuts to see this?

Bath time at Gerry's is is a breeze in her huge tub. I must look my absolute best for the show!

Oh, Jan, I am so sorry that I didn't win Best of Breed this time. However, I did win Select, a special ribbon that earns me points towards a Grand Championship title.

Still, l am very disappointed with myself and I feel I've let you down. I'll have to work on upping my game before Westminster!

Dad, where are you? I need to talk to you about the show!

GK, my boy, everyone goes through a rough patch from time to time. Yes, you are a natural show dog, but that doesn't guarantee you the win! You may find it hard to believe, but even I have experienced losses!

Oh Robin, you and Tiva have been so supportive throughout this trip. Dad is right! I can't let this minor setback get me down.

Now it's time to hit the road and return home to the Frenchies. Thank you, Gerry! You've been a lovely hostess! I'm sure we'll meet again soon!

  • Hello G.K.,
Glad to hear from you on the road and that you are doing well. Don't be disappointed in yourself for not getting best of breed. Listen to Maddox and he will tell you that winners never quit and that you are always a champion. I know that doesn't help in your disappointment. You can't sidetracked and not think about the prize of the Wstminster Dog Show. Look at how young you are to be where you are already. Quite an achievement I would say. Maddox Mom said to tell you that you are very handsome. She sees where G.K. gets his looks. Where is his Mom any way these days? I forget. Have a great day all.
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • Oh dear GK don't be disappointed in yourself, it's not a setback it's a great learning experience, and you will get better and better...I'm sure of that! ;-)

How nice of Gerry to accommodate you all, she seems to be good at what she does, I mean she got on her knees and served up your meal, even allowing you to bath in her tub.

So GK, tell yourself that you are good, and that you try your best...then all will come together. After all you did have some wins just as you got started in showing, that is very impressive.

Hugs and Kisses to your sweet furry face,
    delia and Kitty =^,,^=

  • Good morning son,
Don't worry, you are just starting out. Every dog out there goes through stuff like that, but you did win points toward your Grand Championship so that was a good thing. And we got to run around and have fun. How about that black squirrel? Your sisters would have enjoyed seeing him.
You looked great GK. And Karen said you showed well. She always says that as long as her dog showed well, that is all a person can ask for. She is very proud in what you have accomplished in such a short time in the ring. So is Jan.
Gerry was very happy that you visited her. She enhoyed your company.
Well son, I have to go on my rounds and see what is out in the yard. If I see that squirrel, I will ask him if he would like to move to the farm cause there are two little girls that would love to be his friend. hehehehehe
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Hey G.K.,
Keep you chin up. You're a handsome fella and more wins will come your way. It's great you won more points!
That's a great bathtub! I don't get many baths, but when I do, It's in the laundry tub in a warm & cozy laundry room.
We're getting ready for some freezing rain today & tonight. Yuck.. My house has deep overhanging eaves so there's always a nice dry place to do my duties.
    Hasta luego.
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • Good morning handsome man Mr. GK,
You did win this past weekend. You won Grand Championship points which you need to get that title. They are different from breed points, but you still need them. Don't be hard on yourself. You looked great and you showed well so in my book, you did good. You forget, you are just starting out. There are dogs being shown that have been in the ring for a very long time and still are not Champions. You did that in a handful of shows.
Cora-Belle, when I saw black squirrels on the fence, I thought of you along with F & S. I wanted you to see what they look like and now you won't be able to do that. They are the same as the other squirrels, just a different color.
I read this blog everyday to check on everyone. I think you are the best Glue Squad ever.
Thinking of each of you every day,
    Karen

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
GK you shouldn’t beat yourself up for not getting what you wanted. Heck, I don’t get what I want a whole lot. Take yesterday for an example. Mommy and Daddy were getting ready to go to their Tuesday evening meeting and I wanted to go too. I didn’t get to go and was disappointed. I just laid around and felt sorry for myself while they were gone. But when they came home we had a great time together sharing treats. Don’t feel sorry for yourself, fell sorry for all those others who didn’t get any wins at all. OK, so that tool only a few minutes; now go outside and chase that black squirrel.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • GK,

Don't be dissappointed in yourself. I am so proud of you! Keep your head held high :) I am from a line of show dogs and look at me.LOL Mom is taking me to my training classes and I am still having trouble just getting the "down" command down. But mom said I did wonderful last night and that she is very proud of me. She even took me to class by herself. Usually someone will drive us so she can sit in the back seat with me. I get a little nervous in the car. :)
Anyway.... keep up the good work and just remember that we all love you and are proud of you.
I'm sure F & S are going to be sooooo happy you are home.

    Have a wonderful day everyone

    Chloe xx

  • Hi Girl Friends &GK, WOW, my handsome buddy, you did good again because you got more points! You have been learning how to do your best everytime you go to a Dog Show and who knows how the person in charge decides which chow chow is the winner! Please don't ever give up-my prayers are with you all the time and I'll bet Paw Paw's prayers are with you, too! I always remember seeing handsome Paw Paw with Martha! I know all of us care very much about you! Hey buddy Basil, I'm so proud of you for having such a great attitude amd I pray your next appointment will be great! Cora-Belle, I heard you were having flooding in your area and I know your parents are protecting you-God bless them, too! There have been power outages for as long as 7 days and we had 50 mile an hour winds last night and almost had a power outage again! Would love to have a warm, sunny day ASAP! Maddox, Karen, Jan, and Gerry thanks for taking such great care of our buddy GK! Sure hope all of you have a calm, warm, healthy, safe day! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • G.K. you are doing a great job in such a short time. Like everyone else said, don't be hard on yourself, use the show as a wonderful training experience. More importantly, you still earned points Grand Championship points.

Absolute best of all: you are a very well loved little boy whether you win a title or not. Always remember that your family and friends love you.

Everyone take care, be safe, and have a fun day today.

  • GK, I am looking forward to seeing you as best of breed at Westminster next month! I know you will be there...love, love the photo of you with your dad and Jan, handsome devils both of you! Love from Texas.

  • Hi F&S, GK, and Glue Squad,
Well, it was a long weekend!! Even though it didn't turn out how we would have liked, we did have a lot of fun!! It was great to see Maddox and GK playing!! It was a wonderful sight....
I was told by a very wise lady one time (yes Karen it would be you) to let your dog do the talking!! I know I am taking the best dog home. So win or lose I am very happy and proud of you GK!! You are truly wonderful. Keep your head held high. Get some rest you will need it for the Garden!! See you soon,
    Jan

  • G.K. you are one dapper pooch! You are doing wonderfully and listen to your wise and fluffy pop, you can't win every time.

I really love that HUGE tub you were bathed in. Some dogs have all the luck! :)

Also, that was the first time I've ever seen a black squirrel. Who knew they came in so many colors!

    gail :)

  • I just wanted to welcome Kurdt, a fellow brindle Frenchie, to the Glue Squad! He commented on yesterday's blog. Welcome to the club, Kurdt!

  • Hey G.K.

Don't feel down we are all proud of you!!!

I'm so pissed I can't get any computer time! My mom has been leaving at 6 am for the office it's crazy I can't take much more. I can't wait till this office move is over she is hell to live with right now. I hope by Monday my life will be back to normal. I peed in my bed today Dad isn't happy with me I hope Mom gets the hint ;)

Well I have to go time is up :(

    Zoe

  • Yo, G.K, you are always a winner, we cattledogs are so proud of you..thanks Karen for posting the black squirrel picture..Lucinda told me it has a funny little face..Big hi to Kurdt, glad you got rescued by a loving family...every doggie deserves that...I must go help put groceries away and see if any goodies come my way...over and out, Cora-belle

  • Welcome to the Glue Squad Kurdt. I will have to fo back to the
previous blog and read your comment. Sorry I missed it. We all
for each other very much here on the Daily Wag. I am sure you will
have a good time here, we all do
Zoe, peeing in your bed did not spite your mom. You are the
one who ended up with a wet bed. Try to go a
little easy on your mom. She has a job to do but I am
sure she would much rather be with you more if she could
    Right? Right!
    Love,
    Maddox
PS - GK, see how the Glue Squad stands behind you, win
or lose. Shows come and go but your friends are friends to
    the end.
Love to my Glue Squad buddies,
    Maddox

  • G.K., you are just too cute for your own good! so are frannie and sharky (sp). :)

  • Hi, G.K., Franny and Sharkey! Just wanted to tell you that your dad is right: dog shows come and go, but it's what your people and friends think of you that's important. I(Fergie), didn't win as much as I would have liked at the shows here in Florida this past weekend. But my mom said that she couldn't have been prouder of me than if I had won the whole ball of wax(whatever THAT means, people do talk funny sometimes!)She said that when I showed for Uncle Ron(my handler and buddy)that I did everything I was supposed to do, perfectly. And that everyone, from my breeder, to Aunt Cheryl, to my mom's friends who saw me, said I was the best I'd ever been. Mom says she even got a note from my dog dad and his mom telling her how much our hard work has paid off! So, I guess that's what matters-that we try to do our very best, and know that the people and friends who love us, think we are winners every day of our lives, no matter what the judges say at the shows! Keep working at it, G.K., and have fun at Westminster, no matter what happens!
    Your pals,
    Lily and Fergie
