Disappointed With the Weather

Posted by Sharkey

Francesca and I got all excited when we heard the weatherman calling for snow accumulation. I suppose with all our excitement, we failed to hear the part about snow changing over to rain. Anyway, we got our warm winter gear on and headed out to play, only to find it quite messy outdoors.

How do you like that, Francesca! Here we are all ready to play in the snow that fell last night, but it's turned to rain and the snow is nearly all gone!

Well, Sharkey, it may not be weather for playing in the snow, but let's take a walk around the farm and get some exercise anyway!

We should probably inspect the burlapping and see how it's holding up. Darn, my feet are getting wet in these puddles.

The shrubs beneath these burlap covers smell alive and healthy!

And Francesca, the burlap is still nice and taut on its frames. We wouldn't want any of Martha's beautiful shrubs to be damaged by winter's cold and heavy snow!

You know, Sharkey, burlap, or hessian, is a great material to use in the garden. It's strong and natural and is usually woven from fibers of the jute and sisal plants. Its loose weave allows for good air circulation and it's biodegradable.

Look, Sharkey! The guys have even outlined the walkways with metal stakes. If a heavy snow should fall, the paths are marked for easy shoveling!

So far, this has been one strange winter, Franny! I am so glad that Ryan and Wilmer finished spreading the garden beds with compost. I was really worried about all those confused spring bulbs.

Sharkey, that compost is blanketing the bulbs just as this burlap is protecting the shrubs and just as our warm coats are blanketing us!

In winter, it's all about covering up and being protected from the elements. Now, where does one find a squirrel to chase when it's cold and nasty?

  • What do you bet, F & S, that the squirrels are running behind the burlap in the beautiful out of the elements tunnels????

Those metal stakes sure reminded me of my dad who did the same thing for the same reason by the the stepping stones that were the path to the garage - and garbage cans...

  • Happy Birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy 7th birthday sweey Sharkey, happy birthday to you

Ladies did I mention how much I love your beautiful coats? Sharkey, I hope you have a splendid day full of kisses, treats, and belly rubs!

  • Hello Ladies,
It's too bad you didn't get your deep snow to play in and make igloos. I am disappointed also in this winter, if you want to call it that. It is cold in the mountains and lots of snow, so Dad has been ice fishing lots. Mom hates ice fishing and says it is really cold and dumb, but if he likes it, great for him. I don't see G.K. wishing for the snow to play!!! Is he off training for the big day at the Westminster Dog Show? Well, everyone have a great day.
    Love and licks,
    Basil

  • Good Morning Ladies,
It has been a weird winter here, too. It is too cold for me today, so I'm not going to work with Mimi. I'm staying home & watching the geese land on the icy lake. They are so funny to see sliding when they land.
Hey! Come to my house! We have about 6 squirrels that need chasing around. Not so many bunnies this year though. Sure do like your coats. Looking good!
Hey to the glue squad...have a great day all.
    Your Pal,
    Rebel

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
This winter has been really a strange one. It has snowed in places which only get a little snow and rained in places where the snow usually falls and piles up. It’s been warm here with a little rain yesterday. It should be getting cold tomorrow and I can hardly wait. As you know, I love the cold weather. It was down in the lower 40’s this weekend and I spent most of my time outside. I just love to lay in the sunshine but get too hot quickly. The cool weather kept me cool. Half a week gone already, heehawed.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hi Girl Friends &G.K., You girls look so cute in those fabulous coats you are wearing while touring the area outside Martha's beautiful home! It's really fun to see the burlap over all of those shrubs-they looks terrific and should look better when spring finally arrives! Ryan and Wilmer sure did a nice job getting everything ready for the snowy times! I love your information about the burlap, too! This week has been cold and snowy here in the Puget Sound area. It started snowing on Saturday and then all melted yesterday and now we have 3+ inches of snow again this early morning with more snow expected all day. When I need to go out to do my business, I do it very quickly and go back inside to get warm and dry. This new snow is supposed to go away sometime tomorrow. We could get some flooding then, but we sure hope not. Hope all of my buddies are warm, safe, healthy, and happy today! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • First off...Sharkey, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to YOU and many, many more...continue your splendid life at mommie Martha's home.

F & S looking good with your coats!

WOW those burlap covers look like Modern art statues, very cool.

Our weather is crazy, but I can't complain about the snow it's been minimal to say the least (oops, maybe I should not say that too loud) but it does shorten up the winter.

Kitty refuses to step out in the cold, very odd since her coat is so thick, maybe she is rethinking the outside world and wants to be an indoor feral cat.
    Have a great safe day....
    delia & (=^..^=) fat Kitty

  • Pssst! Sharkey's birthday is next month! But she thanks you for all of the birthday wishes!

  • Hi Girls,
I am late today. I am back down in Maryland with my co-owners
Gerry and Dick Roberts. Gerry had some stuff she had to do on
the computer. You know how humans are when they are on the
    Internet, slow and pokey. Hehehehehe
I absolutely love your outfits. You look like real VIP's in them.
Did I miss the comment about Chloe in her class? Well, I was just
informed that I have to help clean up the house because we are
having guests this weekend. I don't know why I have to help. Maybe
it will be someone that I know. I guess I will just have to wait and see.
Hopefully, I can get back on here later unless I am too exhausted from
following the cleaning lady around cause she keeps moving my toys
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Boy do I feel dumb! For some reason my eyes kept seeing January instead of February. Oh well One month from today I will send you your official 7th Birthday Greeting Sharkey!

  • ..weather..lots of snow..so hard for me to get around..every place that James shoveled for me was covered by at least 6 inches of snow...so I am worn out from trying to walk..it looks like it might be trying to rain..hope this all goes away..then we have a gale force wind warning...back to bed for me..Cora-belle

  • Well Sonya, that shows we read our Glue Squads comments...don't feel dumb, it was an honest mistake after all I completely forgot the month & date, so if it were not for you, even though wrong, I was able to say Happy Birthday early... :)

psssst! I did notice Francesca had to say something after I wrote it...hey, no one else noticed!

    F & S you sweet pups have a great day! ;) ~d

  • Hello F & S and GK,
Sorry I am so late posting today. I am exhausted from my training class last night. All I can say is those little dogs are very annoying with all their yapping and ankle bitting. They all came in with their little sweaters on...OMG....it wasn't that cold out.I personally thought it was warm out and it was way too hot in the building we were training in. Mom said I did great. I know all my commands and was the best one there. Mom said if she didn't pay upfront she wouldn't even send me back. LOL Mom was a little nervous about me being around other dogs but I did great. I only hit one the head with my paw. haha.
F&S I am dissapointed we haven't had a lot of snow yet here either. I am just waiting for the day to get out there and jump in a mound of snow!!! By the way your sweaters are way nicer then the ones the girls had on last night. LOL
Well, off the relax again. Have a great night!

    Chloe xx

  • ..we noticed the post that it wasn't sharkeys b.day..thanks Frannie...or we would have commented on it...we would not have ignored such a big day...later, Cora-Belle....ps. as a matter of fact we check back a couple times a day to see what the glue squad is up to..yikes..now blowing snow..BIG gusts of wind...I'm getting on the couch..

  • Hey there F & S

Can you believe how late I am posting today? Mom has been leaving the house SO early for work I have no time for the computer. I need to sit her down tomorrow and set some things straight - I need my computer time!!

Anyway, I'm feeling much better. No more squirts or hurls back to my normal self. I have to say the ground beef and rice really does the trick.

I felt so good today I chewed up dad's book, just a paper back - I like the hard covers much better.

Well I'm getting ready for bed I hope I get some time tomorrow morning.

    Zoe
