Trouble With Sasa's Shoe

Posted by Francesca

As you know, we always like to visit our friends on the farm and we happened to see Sasa right after he and Betsy came back from one of their rides along the Bedford Riding Lanes.  We found out that Sasa experienced a little problem along the way.

Sharkey, let's see what's going on in the stable today.

Hi Sasa! How's everything in your neck of the woods? Aren't you glad the weather has warmed up a bit after that horrific snow storm last week?

Why hello, Sharkey and Francesca! So good of you to stop by. I'm doing just fine, except for the shoe that came off my front hoof! Betsy was riding me and I was walking through mud and the shoe was sucked right off by the sticky goo!

Will you look at that! Why do horses wear shoes, anyway? We Frenchies get along just fine without shoes. And besides, I see that those things are hammered on with nails. That seems like an odd way to put on shoes.

Well, girls, while horses don't have shoes in the wild, it's something that many domesticated equine need. Carrying additional weight, like riders, can cause extra stress on our hooves and can be problematic.

But Sasa, don't those sharp nails hurt? Putting on a horseshoe isn't exactly like donning a pair of comfortable slippers! I mean, you don't hammer on a slipper!

Sharkey, my hooves are similar to your toenails. There aren't any nerve endings there, so horseshoeing doesn't hurt. Fortunately, Betsy found the shoe in the mud, so I can have it put on again.

Betsy already called Linda, our farrier, and she's coming tomorrow. In the meantime, Betsy could give me a hoof boot to wear or I could just take it easy until then.

Of course, Betsy knows what to do! She takes such good care of all of you. One of the reasons we like coming here is because she also knows how to give a good scratch! Ahhhh!

  • Good morning girls,
Sasa is lucky that Betsy found the shoe. Did Besty have to walk back to the stable with Sasa? If so, I hope she didn't have too far of a walk.
Today is going to be another sunny day here and then I guess it is supposed to rain. So, I guess I better enjoy it while it lasts. I am headed out to lay on the deck and wait for the sun to come out. While I am out there, I will be thinking about all of you. I will wonder how long Zie can go without getting into trouble, wonder about all the places that Kirby will be visiting on his vscation, how Basil is doing with his good, what crittes Cora-Belle will run into today. what Dudley, Rebel and all the rest of you will be doing today. Oh my, all that thinking is making me tired. I better go take a nap real soon.
    Have a great day everyone.

  • Good Morning Girls

I don't like the thought of someone using a hammer to put on a shoe. Plus it had to hurt getting sucked off in the mud, it's making my paws hurt just thinking about it.

Yesterday was such a beautiful day I was out on the deck all morning. Dad was working in the yard and I just enjoyed the sun and warm weather. Today is suppose to be just as nice.

I hate to say it but there might be a short time out in my future just waiting for mom to walk in the family room. She played golf yesterday and when she came home she took her socks off and placed them on the staircase to take up to the laundry room. I decided to help and took them in the family room while she wasn't looking and chewed a few cute holes in them. It's sort of like tiny air holes so her feet won't sweat, well I hope that's what she thinks ;)

I think I'll go back to bed and hide with Dad maybe Sophie will get blamed :)

  • Hello Ladies,
Aren't you always the busy ones. I love that you have such good friends on the farm. Poor Sasa loosing a shoe. That can't be any fun. But it sure looks like fun visiting him and Betsy. I hope Kirby will have fun over the next couple weeks on vacation. Mom says I can't go on more than a day ride somewhere because of all my meds and health issues. That's o.k. though. I love home. Did I tell you my people brother got me a set of stairs at the pet store. They are plastic and then covered in fake lamb? I was having a difficult time getting into bed and on my bed on the couch. Now, one, two, three and I am right on the couch or bed. Speaking of bed, I better get back to mine and rest. Dad is having shelving delivered today for Mom's business and I will have a busy day supervising.
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • Hi ladies!
Sasa is so lucky to have you two and Betsy to take care of her. My toenails need trimming today. I don't mind. Mimi is careful because all of my toenails are black.
The wind has been blowing, the rain has been falling & it's warmer out this morning. You'd think it was March!
Mimi & I will be heading off to work soon & the wallboard man will be coming to finish the new room. He put heaters out there yesterday. Papa says it's warmer out there than in the house. Mimi wondered about the electric bill!
    Have a great day everybody!
    your pal, Rebel

  • Hi Girl Friends &G.K., All of you at Martha's Bedford farm live in the best place I have ever know about! You animals are so fortunate to have such wonderful humans around to help you if anything unfortunate ever happens and you are never alone! Franny and Sharkey, you are so good also for checking on your friends at the farm and helping them if there is any way you can! Sasa sure is a handsome fellow and how fortunate that Betsy was able to find his shoe and call Linda to come and reapply his shoe! Thanks for sharing so much that you do with all of us-I learn something new everyday! Sure hope everyone has another great day! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • As always, you two are such good doggies to make sure your farm buddies are doing AOK. Throwing a shoe seems painful but between Betsy and Linda the Farrier, Sasa is in the best of care.

Happy belated 2nd Birthday G.K. You really do need your own photo on the Wag now so we can keep track of your B-Day as well.
