The Frenchies Want to be Show Dogs

Posted by Ghenghis Khan

It’s beginning to be clear that I, G.K., have the makings of a true champion.  I’m breaking into the dog show circuit and I’m winning!  I was watching Sharkey and Francesca the other day acting very strangely.  They seem to have a misconception about what really goes on at a dog show.  I think Karen better start taking some video for the Frenchies to watch.

Francesca, despite the fact that we live amazing lives, what do you think it would take to be a show dog like G.K.? If Wolfie, that handsome Frenchie we met, can do it, why can't we?

Sharkey, maybe we just need to show the world our skills! It's true that we already have poise and great looks. Now we just need to prove that we also have a few great tricks in our repertoire.

Right, our tricks! What might our tricks be, Franny?

WelI, I can rise up like this...

And I can jump on my hind legs!

YES, I can do that too!

What on earth are you Frenchies doing?

Those jumps of yours are good, but that's not what goes on in the ring. It's mostly about walking. Follow me and I'll show you what I mean.

Dog shows were originally created for finding superior dogs for breeding. I'm hoping to meet a nice girl Chow Chow at one of these shows.

GIrls? Sigh, I don't think they have the attention span for this. Oh well, being a show dog isn't for everydog!

And being a champion isn't for everydog either. However, it suits Karen, Jan, and me just fine!

  • Hello Ladies & G.K.,
Congrats G.K. on being a champion, and girls you have been champions for years---in my book anyway. Girls, don't let your eyes wander to the show circuit and don't let anyone tell you it is great. I hear you have to be in a crate most of the time. That is probably why everyone is so well behaved when they get out--they think they will get locked up again. G.K., your transformation from running away from home and getting caught by the police to being a champion is quite a feet. I am happy being a champion of my home. I love all the attention when I go to the vet's. Everyone gives me attention and kisses, and then I have to rest for days. I am happy for you G.K., that you are taking to the show circuit, and Maddox for being such a great Dad and showing you the ropes, but for me I am happy at my looking out window and lots of family love. And Franny and Sharkey, you live the life, don't let anyone tell you different.
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • Good Morning F & S

I agree with Basil I like being the champion of my home. I don't think I'd like all the travel, crate time and especially all the baths and grooming - YUK. I'm very happy with my humans and my Lab brother and sisters - life is good.

Well mom finally did it broke out the luggage. I knew her Aruba trip was coming up just didn't realize how soon - it's next week :( Thank God dad doesn't go or we'd be home with Super Nanny. This is mom's time with her sisters and mom where they spend all day on the beach. When she comes home she is a different color, very brown.

So is everyone getting ready for Turkey day? F & S I bet the turkeys at your house get very nervous this time of year. Maybe you should open the door to the pen so they can go hide for the holidays.

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
Yep, it’s me back from my great trip. I don’t think that that mobile computing is going to work our for everyone. It was just great to be away from all that electronic world for a while. I couldn’t get a strong signal most of the time; it was great just being with the family without all the 21st century stuff. I must have had a Zoe moment while I was away. I spent quite a few hours in time out. It was cold for a while and it really felt good. But then it turned hot again; record high’s for November in the mountains. It was a long drive yesterday but we did stay ahead of the rain and arrived home safe and dry. GK, it’s fun to travel as you know but there is no place like home. Glad to be back.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Good morning all,
Some of us are show dogs and some of us are show-off dogs. We show off dogs are a bit out of control sometimes...but don't we have fun! Right Zoe?
Anywho G.K., you tried, but the girls just don't get it..they just want to have fun.
Today it will start to smell like Thanksgiving. Mimi is baking today. Papa told me that we'll have new folks at the house and I had better be good. hmmmmm.
    Til tomorrow.
    Your pal Rebel

  • CONGRATULATIONS G.K. on your win!! :) such a good dog ;) and don't be jealous girls!
Yes indeed, dog shows were originally created for finding superior dogs for breeding...THIS is how it should be for the intent to breed any captive animal...it's a responsibility to make sure that the worthy ones breed on. Some countries still do this, then you don't have the over abundance of dogs that are unwanted for what ever reason.

Don't know if I'll be able to post for awhile till after the T-Day, we will have my family here for the first time in 20+ years..
I pray that all here have a Day filled with Thanks!

  • Hi Girl Friends &G.K., Mr. Ghenghis Khan, you have become a very mature, young fellow who is becoming a wonderful champion Show Dog and you are only 2 years old! It was nice of you to try to help Franny and Sharkey understand what a Show Dog must do in the ring! The girls are extremely fun to watch when they help friends at the farm and that makes them champion farm dogs! I love all three of you and enjoy seeing what each of you do-you are all super!!! Hey Cora Belle, sure hope our weather gets better real soon-wind and rain are frightening! Welcome back Kirby, hope you had a fun trip! Sure hope everyone has a great day and stay safe, happy, and dry! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Franny & Sharkey, you two are stars in your own right. You know MommyM loves the three of you very much. Besides, G.K. needs the show ring to keep his wild boy ways under control. Maybe you two can put on your special kind of show at home on farm.

  • Hello everyone,
I feel the need to mention something about show dogs. If this gets a bit long, I apologize in advance.

There are good and bad in all walks of life. There are good pet owners who take good care of their pets and play with them and give them all kinds of attention and they love them very much. Then there are pet owners who have pets that just take care of the basic needs of the pet and that is it. There are show people who leave dogs in crates a big part of the day but there are also show people and handlers like myself and Jan who go above and beyond for the dogs while we are at shows. Yes, GK goes into a crate while he is being transported. That is for his safety in case there would be an accident, we would not want him to get thrown in the car and get hurt. At the show, yes he is put into a crate when we first get there so we can get the dryer, combs and brushes, food and water set up for the dogs, etc Then we get GK out of the crate and take him for a walk After we come back, we put him on the grooming table and brush his coat. He likes to be brushed. Then we take him to the show ring to be shown and when ge is done we go to our motel. We always try to get a motel that had big rooms and lots of grass to play with GK and walk him. At the motel he is not in a crate. He is free to go wherever he wants to in the room. He slept on the bed at the last show. If we go out to get something to eat in the evening, GK comes with us. Yes he is in a crate while we are eating but we are only there about half an hour it so and we always park where we can see the car. We do not leave him or any dogs alone in the motel. I cannot speak for anyone else, put I love my dogs with all my heart and I try to take care of them to the best of my ability. GK absolutely loves to show. If he didn't like it I would tell Martha to stop showing him because if it is not fun for a dog, then they should not do it. Not all dogs like to be show dogs. Some are great at doing tricks, some are good at protecting their family, some are good at looking real cute or eating Barbie heads, chasing off critters, etc. And that is alright to like different things. No matter what a dog likes to do, the bottom line is that they do it to the best of their ability because that is something that is near and dear to them. And I can tell you that GK loves showing. He stands so proud in the show ring. It brings tears to my eyes when I watch him show because I can tell that it makes him happy to do it and that makes me happy. When an animal gets to do something that they enjoy, that is a good thing I am sure that when GK is back at the farm he is happy there too. People have different hobbies and so do all of you and that is what makes the world go round and that is what makes life interesting. If you all did the same thing, it would get boring but because you all like to do different things it makes all the comments so interesting. Me personally, I love hearing about the different things that each and every one of you do during your day. I hope I explained about dog shows and if anyone has any questions, just ask Maddox and I am sure he will try to help out

    Love to all of you
    Karen

  • Hi GK my son,
You are doing so well in the show ring. You are a natural, just like me. You know, when we went to different areas to go to shows, I got to do all kinds of things after I was done in the ring. I ran on the sand with horses in Virginia Beach. That was awesome. I was all full of sand but Karen didn't mind that she and Jan had to get all of that sand out of my coat cause I was having a blast. I got to go to Pet Smart stores to look at your picture where they have Martha's pet line on display. And Jan always made sure she got steak for me at the restaurants. I really enjoyed showing. It is more than just walking though son. The judges are looking at your bone structure, the texture of your coat, etc. Don't worry, you have good genes. The thing I enjoyed the very most was to be an ambassador for the Chow Chow breed. So many people came up to me at shows to pet me and ask about chows and Karen would tell them all about the breed. As you know, chows can get a bad rap but Karen has been working hard to produce sound, good tempered chows and we have to show the people that we are really good dogs. I must tell you GK, your dad had a tear in his eye when I saw your first show picture on the blog today. A father always wants his son to follow in his footsteps. I am sure that Paw Paw, your great grandfather is looking down on you with a big smile on his face.
    Love always,
    Your proud dad Maddox
PS - Thank you to all your fellow bloggers for standing behind GK while he persues his show career.

  • Raven dear, while there are lots of good reasons to be show dogs-- and you are the daughter of very fine dogs and could have done very well in the ring-- you can be proud of what you do, too. You make your MarthaMom laugh and make her happy and that is quite a wonderful thing to do for a living. You also teach lots of people about the interesting things that go on at the farm and other places where you get to live, and you and Sharkey help people understand what great dogs French Bulldogs are.

  • Well Frannie and Sharkey you look like you are party girls just like me. Mommy sings me a song by a weird lookin lady :Girls just wanna have fun!!!!

I am a show dog a GCH and I could not have a better life. My mommy and Daddy love me feed me the best food and I play w/ my brother when I am home. Mommy even bought a mini van for me!!! Yes, I do travel in a crate in the car but................ it is the safest way for me to travel. I am like a baby I just fall asleep. Yes, at the show I am in a crate but my mommy is walking me and socializing me all the time. It actually is really fun I watch all the other dogs show and meet lots of people. It gets me out of the house and gives my brother Myles some alone time w/ daddy. Oh yea my sister Patches the cat is glad when I am away. I have been w/ Karen and Jan at the shows and you could not ask for better handlers who truly LOVE the dogs!!! By the way GK YOU ROCK DUDE!!

    Your girl,
    Jerz the sharpei
