Squirrel Up A Tree!

Posted by F&S

While we work very hard around around the farm and also spend a great deal of time preparing our educational blog postings for all of you to read and learn from, we sometimes allow ourselves to get distracted by one of our favorite pastimes—squirrel chasing!

Sharkey, do you smell something...familiar here? No, it's not truffles, but wait - I know what it is!

It's a SQUIRREL!!!

Aw, Franny! How are we ever going to get him when he's so high up there in that tree?

Now Sharkey, you and I are highly intelligent Frenchies and I'm sure we can figure this out!

I don't know, Franny. He seems so out of reach!

All you have to do is make like a beaver and gnaw through the tree! Eventually, it will fall and we can pounce on the little furball!

Franny, I know this squirrel chasing is fun and all, but have you ever wondered what exactly we would do with a squirrel if we ever caught one?

Why, no Sharkey. It never crossed my mind. I wouldn't want to hurt the critter. And come to think of it, I certainly wouldn't want to EAT him! It's simply part of a dog's nature to want to chase and to hunt!

Franny, I doubt we'll ever catch him. He keeps climbing higher and higher. It's also kind of wet and damp out, so let's give up and go snuggle in our beds! Besides, where there's one squirrel, there's always another.

  • Good Morning F & S

Ahhh squirrel chasing so much fun. Have you ever tried chasing those little chipmunks? Those little suckers are on the ground then disappear into a hole. Precious caught a squirrel once and chewed it up totally grossed me out. I think Sophie caught it because she is really fast and Precious just decided to play with it - YUK...

I'm feeling much better today I think it was a combination of cheese curls and dirt. Mom removed all the plants from the containers on the deck and I love to eat the dirt. Last night she moved them to the storage shed so no more snacking for me.

I'm going to try and stay out of sight today I heard the word groomer last night not sure what day it is but maybe she'll forget if she can't find me.

  • Hey Kirby Bear I forgot to wish you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! Have a great day and I hope you get lots of treats.

  • You girls crack me up. You see a squrrel in a tree and then you decide to go take a nap. Well, actually, that was a good decision. If Franny had kept chewing on that tree to get the squirrel down, she may have had no teeth left. How funny.
I am so sorry Kirby, I didn't realize it was your birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY my chow brother. Hope you get everything you want for the special day. I am glad that Zoe is back to her normal self. Some day we should have Zoe write down everything that she has eaten that she was not supposed to eat. They may not have enough space on this website for that.
    hehehehehe
Basil, I am glad to hear that things are going pretty well for you and hope you have a real good report at the doctor. Remember, you may have been locked in the bedroom for a while but the craft show was prosperous so that means extra goodies for you. Glad Cora-Bell is back to her old self chasing critters and Dudley, Kirby, Rebel and all you other bloggers are doing well.
    Later guys,
    Maddox

  • Hello Ladies,
Squirrel chasing is fun, but I have a deal with one of the little guys. You see, I am not supposed to eat anything but my food and meds and I hate that, so I contracted with the squirrel to drop a few apples in the yard for me to get a hold of when Mom isn't looking. I let him pass by without a chase and he drops off the apples. Kind of like his toll fee. Lounging in the bed sounds pretty good too. I think that is where I will head now. Happy Birthday buddy Kirby. You are the best!!!! Take care and have a great day.
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
Now you are talking my language; squirrel chasing. Squirrels are just as much fun chasing as cats are. I have some squirrels coming to the bird feeders on the back porch and it’s my job to chase them away. They usually take to one large bush beside the porch and I have to use the steps. By the time I’m on the ground, they are out of the bush and running to the fence. Now I can cover that desistance in just over three seconds but they seem to be able to cover that desistance in just under three seconds. One of these days, yeah, one of these days; POW, I’ll get one. Until then I think I’ll take a nap. After all it’s my Birthday; thanks for all the good wishes.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Oh my darlings,
Frannie, I luv pic #8. It shows your beautiful brown eyes... Do you really think you could chew down a tree with those precious little teeth?
It's chilly, dark & rainy today. Naps are the way to go. Mimi turned on the heated car seat for me this morning. I didn't want to get out of the car when we got to work!
Thanks Maddox, I'm glad we all are happy & well, too.
    Happy birthday Kirby....enjoy your day.
    your pal,
    Rebel

  • Hi Girl Friends &G.K., Every morning, all three of you make me so happy to see whatever you are up to on the farm or wherever you go!!! Learning something new from you everyday is terrific!!! Seeing that squirrel up in that tree is very familiar. They never seem to come in my yard anymore, but when I see them on the other side of our fences, I bark at them like crazy to let them know I'm here. When I go for a walk, I can't chase them either because I'm on a leash. Hope you girls have more fun chasing squirrels as time goes by! Glad to hear everyone is doing OK today and hope you all have a terrific time today! Happy Birthday wonderful Kirby! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Hey ladies, those squirrels are on to the two of you. They are now waaay out of your reach...for now. You two will have to put those cute little heads together and come up with a new plan. Of course right now squirrels are all the rage in St. Louis (sorry Zoe) with their new mascot the Rally Squirrel. Got its own Twitter and Facebook page. Even has a song. Crazy stuff out there.

Happy Birthday Kirby Bear! I hope you get lots and lots of belly rubs and treats for your special day. Basil, congratulations to your Mom on her successful crafts show. Cora-bell, I'm glad you are feeling better. Zoe, glad that your tummy is back to normal (well as normal as it can be with you chewing on toilet paper  )

  • ..Yo Kirby, Happy birthday to you..enjoy your day! squirrels, chippies, are fun to chase and now a couple grouse live at end of my drive way..so I try to sneak up on them..Rebel, how lucky you are to have heated car seat.I don't ride much lately, James has to lift me in and out of the truck, getting old is not for the faint of heart!..the neightbor is burning brush and the all the smoke is coming down the river looks like a war zone outside..hope my buddies the coons and otters have their smoke detectors up and running..over and out, cora-belle

  • Oh my, this post escaped me! guess it must have been posted later...Our Squirrels are going nuts, I mean nuts over the hickory nuts...the deer are also eating the acorns and whatever they fancy in my yard ;0

I gave my sister a bag of hickory nuts and all the squirrels in her neighborhood came, taking them across the street to bury, unfortunately one squirrel got hit by a car...so sad about that.

Cute pictures of you two Frenchies.:(

Kitty also is stalking the Squirrels, but they got her number.

  • Always happy to watch you chasing squirrels, Raven baby. It just proves how much you take after me!!
