Our Ferryboat Adventure

Posted by Francesca

As you know from reading yesterday’s Daily Wag, we were at our home in East Hampton, Long Island last weekend.  As its name suggests, Long Island is indeed long and at its eastern end, the island is split into the South Fork, where the Hamptons are, and the North Fork.  Martha wanted to visit someone on the North Fork and you can get there one of two ways by car.  You can inch your way through the horrific Hamptons’ traffic or you can take a much more civilized journey on the ferryboats.  Fortunately, that’s what Martha opted for.

Yawn, what a nice nap. Say, are we there yet?

Hey, I'm confused! The car isn't running, but we're still moving. Franny, what's going on?!

Silly Sharkey! You're finally awake. Come on out of the car and enjoy the view with me!

We're on the South Ferry! This ferry moves passengers and their cars from Sag Harbor to Shelter Island! Then you drive through Shelter Island and get on the North Ferry, which takes you to Greenport.

These ferries save a lot of time and aggravation when you want to get from the South Fork of Long Island to the North Fork. You know how that Hamptons' traffic is - why it's just dreadful!

It sure it, Franny. This is a much nicer way to travel. You get the salt air, the nice breeze, and wonderful water views. Wait, wasn't G.K. napping in the car with me? Where did he go? He didn't fall overboard, did he?

Of course not, silly! He's in very good hands with Uncle Carlos!

Hmm, that sign over there says 'Crew Only' - You wait here, Sharkey. I have an idea.

I'm sure the crew won't mind if I join them for this trip. I know my way around a boat and I make an excellent look out dog!

Land ho! We're approaching the dock! All passengers return to their vehicles!

  • Franny you might have a future working on the Ferryboat :) Looks like a wonderful way to travel. I have to say I've never been on a boat. Mom had a boat, she loves to fish. She sold it right before I came into her life she said it was too much work.

Well today was worse than yesterday, she got up earlier!! She is heading to North Jersey again today for meetings. Enough already I need my beauty sleep.

Sophie is in for a surprise today she has to go see Dr. Keefe for her annual checkup. It's that time of year again so I know my turn will be coming up soon :(

I'm going back to bed, I hear Dad snoring so I know there is a few hours of sleep still ahead of me :)

  • Hello Ladies & G.K.,
Well look at you travelers----it makes me nervous when I see you on top of the car hood. I know you are in good hands, I am just a little afraid of heights. I hear about these Hamptons alot, they must be fun. Zoe, your Mom and my Dad are on this early morning thing. We were up at 3:30 this morning. He had to be at work at 5. It was o.k. when I got up early, but now I am adjusted to meds and things and this early business is not fun at all. In fact, I am soooo crabby I am back to bed. Take care all. Is Kirby on vacation?
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • Good morning one and all,
Beautiful cool weather this morning. Chow weather.
Everyone was out this morning and now it is my turn to go back out and lay on the deck and soak in that nice cool air. That ride on the ferry looks awful interesting. I would like that.
    Later,
    Maddox

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
I like to ride on boats. The last ferry boat I was on was in Canada in the Yukon. We crossed the Yukon River at Dawson City. Boy was that river wide and wild. We were there on “Canada Day” which is about the same as the Fourth of July here. Now I’m not afraid of heights. I like to stand on high places and look over. You can often see for miles on some of the places I have been. Daddy doesn’t like for me to get too close to the edge but for me, the closer the better. Time for my mid week nap. I often name my naps because I like them so well.
    Catch you later, Kirby,

  • OOOOH, does that look like fun!
Uncle Carlos takes such good care of you three. Hope you had a good day visiting friends with Mama Martha.

Basil, I'm glad to hear your meds are making you feel better.
Zoe, hang in there, remember, your Vet is your friend.
To my chow pals, Mimi says that the Shelties they had before me loved the cool weather and the snow. Me, not so much.
    til tomorrow,
    Rebel

  • What a fun Ferry journey! You pups are so privileged ;)

  • Hi Girl Friends &G.K., It has been so terrific to see all three of you beautiful friends in the last three blog posts and will look forward to seeing all three of you again and again!!! Franny, you are so intelligent and careful to look out for everyone on that ferryboat trip! I'd probably be kind of afraid to be walking on a ferryboat, but would be comfortable if my Mom held me like wonderful Uncle Carlos held G.K.! You are so lucky to have Uncle Carlos, and of course Martha to take good care of all three of you!!! What a terrific weekend that must have been! Thanks for sharing-got to go see the photos again! Hope everyone has another great day! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+
