Admiring Martha's Orchids in the Greenhouse

Posted by F&S

You may recall that our last blog was about thinning and transplanting the strawberry vines and we got kind of dirty with that task.  On our way to wash up at the sink in the head house, we passed through the greenhouse and stopped to admire the plants growing there.

Francesca, let's check out what's blooming in the greenhouse. See anything interesting?

Did you know there are more than 25,000 species in the world that occur naturally, plus many more which have been developed by orchid growers?

Francesca, don't you just love Mokara orchids, too? They're so bright and colorful.

Mokaras have a pleasant starfish shape and are covered with tiny freckles.

Sharkey, so many orchids flowers look like little faces, don't you think?

Do you see how it looks like its mouth is open and is sticking its tongue out, like this? Do I look as pretty as this flower?

  • yes, frenchies, you are as beautiful as flowers..here at the farm/ranch we have dahlias, about 400 tubers..so that is a lot of cut flowers that we share with friends and family and then just admire the rest..come to think of it we have a lot of stuff going on here all the time, no wonder I am worn-out!..plus this week-end we let people camp at the far end of the property so they could enjoy the river and get a break from the city. Those city dogs were a little nervous, we heard lots of barking during the nite..some had never seen a coon or otter or beaver..so I showed them the ropes..and kept them a safe distance from critters..plus some even wore life jackets in the river..that was funny..I must catch up on my rest..over and out..cora-belle

  • Good Morning F & S

Martha sure does have some beautiful orchids. Franny nice tongue shot and no it does not look like the orchid. Have you been out in the catnip patch or something???

Well the BBQ on Sunday was lots of fun, I played with the kids all day. I did get a few time outs because I jumped up on the table and got caught eating food from peoples dishes. They should know better than to go for a beverage and leave their dish, I can jump on the chair and right to the table ;) No Barbie dolls from Nicole just lots of cheese curls, they are her favorite. She loves to feed me then I left mom a nice orange hurl later that night - I over did the cheese curls :(

  • Hello Ladies,
You ladies are sure getting the rounds of the garden lately. Soon it will be time for a long winter's nap. Cora Bell that is funny on the life jackets, except us Frenchies sink like rocks, so I would need one too. Those orchids look very beautiful. Martha should do an entire show on orchids. I know they can grow in the greenhouses because my Mom has a little greenhouse and lots of orchids, but some come into the house occasionally. Your Mokaras orchid is one I would like to have Dad get Mom for a surprise. She doesn't have one like that, but can Martha's people e-mail my people and let me know where to buy it for Mom. My weekend weather wise took a big turn. It has been a record breaking hot summer-90's forever-I hate it, and now all of a sudden, 70's. Finally, it is Fall, but I guess no Indian Summer. Here in Colorado they say you can have all the seasons in one day if you are patient. Everyone is back to work today and I am happy to get a rest. Zoe, I am happy you didn't eat Nicole's Barbie again, and thanks for eating a cheese curl for me. I got a time out also, which is pretty rare in my old age, but Mom and Dad had picked 4 bushels of tomatoes and the smell was so yummy, that after they went inside I climbed in the garden and was just ready to grab a fallen tomato and run and the tomato police (Mom) got me. Well, I had lots of good tomato dreams. Hope everyone's long weekend was great and I can hardly wait to here about them. But for now, a nice nap awaits.
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • Hi girls,
Beautiful flowers, just stunning. I hope everyone had a great weekend, I sure did. I got a big surprise. They took me to shows this weekend. I have not been to one since I won the Breed at Westminster in February. I had a blast. Naturally I won. The judges can't resist me. They love to put their hands in my fur. Plus I am pretty darn handsome if I do say so myself. And when we were at the motel I had 3 Frenchies and my niece Trinity for roomies. We all got along great. Those Frenchie women adored me. I think they like to cuddle in my fur. Boy, just listen to me, I am full of myself today, aren't I? I guess I better come back down to earth and get over myself. Sorry. I am competitive and love to beat the other dogs, can't help myself.
Anyway, Happy Belated Birthday to Precious. Too bad for you Zoe, no Barbie Dolls. I bet you wouldn't have got sick if you pulled Barbie's head off. Maybe they will bring Barbie next time. I am going back to bed and wait for the rain to stop.
    Later,
    Maddox

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
It’s good to see that someone is taking care of the flowers around the farm. I haven’t seen GK around for some time. I’ll bet he is busy with the Martha Show. The fall season will be starting soon and GK is most likely the one who will be producing it. You all do know how smart Chow Chows are don’t you? Just in case you forgot; they will take an inside job any day. Love that air-conditioning. Had a good and save weekend; hope everyone else did too.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Surely you Frenchies live in Paradise....all these beautiful flowers everywhere, those Orchids are gorgeous, especially the Mokara. :)
