A Visit to Krupski Farms

Posted by F&S

On Wednesday’s blog, we told you about the South and North Ferries at the far eastern end of Long Island, which is a wonderful way to travel back and forth between the South and North Forks.  The north fork is Long Island’s agricultural center.  The vast majority of Long Island vineyards are here, as well as a large number of farms and orchards.  Of course, we made a few stops, including one to colorful Krupski Farms.

Wow, look at all of these pumpkins! It's definitely getting to be autumn, isn't it, Franny?

It sure is, Sharkey. And what better place to find pumpkins of all sizes than Krupski Farms in Peconic, NY! That ferry boat ride took us to the beautiful farms of the North Fork.

It seems like they have every kind of pumpkin you can possibly imagine, from teeny tiny ones, like these Jack-B-Little...

This type of squash is called Turks Turban. It's colorful and very decorative, but it's also quite tasty with a dry and nutty flavor!

Sharkey, I'm told that these wart-covered gourds and pumpkins are no accident. They're called Super Freak and they've actually been bred for this unique appearance. If they can do this to pumpkins, can they do this to Frenchies? E-gad!

I think Martha is inside buying some of Krupski's famous sweet white corn.

In addition to pumpkins and corn, they also sell their own freshly harvested fruits and vegetables at their stand.

So, Franny, while Martha shops, maybe we should go and explore out back.

Every October on weekends, Krupski opens their Haunted Corn Maze! Too bad it's still September. Maybe we should come back.

I don't know, Sharkey. That scarecrow looks kind of creepy! The corn maze has got to be scary with guys like that lurking about!

All right, then. Why don't we pick out a great pumpkin to take home. Franny, let's ask that lady over there for some help!

Excuse me, ma'am, but can you help us pick out a big round pumpkin? Hey, wait a minute, she's a witch! But she is pointing to a big round pumpkin right over there.

Franny, I think that witch is playing with our heads! This isn't a real pumpkin! This place is really creeping me out! I think we need less tricking and more treats! Uncle Carlos! Where are you?

  • Good Morning Girls

Can you believe it's pumpkin time already where did this summer go??? That farm had lots of pumpkins I hope you picked out a big one for your house. My mom will get her pumpkins in the next few weeks and decorate our front porch.

It feels like fall here this morning there is a chill in the air. It was great sleeping last night mom had the windows open and the fresh air was wonderful. I made sure I stayed close to mom to keep warm.

Sophie went to see Dr. Keefe and she is in good health except for a pea size lump on her lip. He said we need to watch it, not sure what it is but if it gets larger she has to go back. The rest of us go in January for our yearly checkup I hate going there. Why can't they check your temperature with one of those ear devices like they use on humans? No we have to get that cold stick up the butt - not fun. Oh well I have a few months not going to worry about that now.

Looking forward to the weekend, cool and sunny :) I'm sure mom will be golfing so I'll just hang out with dad.

Have a great weekend my buddies at the DW!!!

  • WOW, girls, that sure is an awful lot of pumpkins. Neat pictures. Gee, here it is Friday already. Another week just flew by. Why is it when it is sooooo hot, the day seems to go on and on but when it is nice and cool, the day goes by so fast. Girls, see if you can find out the answer for me.
I imagine Cora-Belle will be chasing critters all weekend, Zoe will be looking for Barbie Dolls, Kirby, Rebel, Dudley, Basil and the rest of you will be trying to stay out of trouble, right? hehehehe
I hope everyone gets to do exactly what they want to do this weekend. We are having a Birthday Party this weekend for Jonesy. He will be 14, He is a Keeshound that mom has had all summer because his owner is in and out of the hospital. I like when it is someone;s birthday cause we all get special treats and mon sings the birthday song. She is way way way off key. but we don't tell her. It is so bad it almost hurts our ears. hehehehe
Enjoy the weekend you wonderful bunch of misfits,
    Maddox

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
You two sure do get to go to some of the neatest places. I’ve never seen such a display of pumpkins before. This let’s me know that the summer is coming to a close. It rained yesterday; about enough to get me wet. With all the sun on the highways for weeks, this little rain really made the highways slick; piled up 50 cars on the interstate about two miles from where I live. Slow down people when the roads are wet. When I saw the sign I asked Daddy why anyone would give away ‘Range Eggs.’ He set me straight right away. The sign says ‘Free Range’ Eggs. Hay, I’m just a dog you know. Have a good, and safe, weekend all.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Very cute!!! :) have to run F&S, but checked out your pumpkin fun...

  • Hi Girls & Uncle Carlos,
What a wonderful pumpkin patch! We are lucky to live just north of the Great Pumpkin Patch. They are great folks that Martha has featured on her TV shows. We also have an apple orchard just down the road that has frozen apple cider drinks and cinnamon apple donuts that are just yummy!
It's cool & cloudy here. Real autumn weather that makes you think about cider & halloween.
Watch out for the spooks and witches!
Have a great weekend..........your pal Rebel

  • Hi Girl Friends &G.K., You sure did have a terrific time there at Krupski Farms, didn't you! These photos you shared are so beautiful and colorful! Being able to wander around on such a beautiful farm must have been a lot of fun. I'm sure G.K. was there even thought we didn't get to see him. I'll bet he and Uncle Carlos would have protected the 2 of you so you could have examined those scarey places at that farm. Hope you get to go back in October so you can show us the Haunted Corn Maze! Zoe, sure hope Sophie's lump on her lip doesn't get bigger. Maddox, be sure to wish 14 year old Jonesy Happy Birthday! Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend-stay safe! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • It's never too early to start the Halloween fun at the farm. The haunted corn maze makes me think about that creepy movie, "Children of the Corn" Brrrr Hmmm... maybe GK had the right idea and was absent from seeing witches and spooky brides and grooms. You two look cute as always.

It's gotten chilly enough here in Chicago that I saw some doggies out last night sporting their jackets already. I hope everyone has a wonderful, relaxing weekend.

  • ..Maddox wish Jonesy a happy birthday,no critter chasing for me this week-end..helping James do some plumbing under the house..told Lucinda we should try raising some of those giant pumpkins we see on tv, like the 500 lb. ones, next year...you fellow doggers have a fun week-end..look forward to hearing what you did..over and out..cora-belle

  • Hello Ladies,
Sorry I am a bit late today. Mom wisked me off early to the vet's. Nothing to worry about, just a nail trim. I never have had to have that done much in my life since I would play outside and wear them down. But now I am resting more and not wearing them down so much, so it was off to get them trimmed. I didn't like it at all, shivered all the time. I love fall and all the leaf jumping and pumpkins. Mom makes the best chocolate chip pumpkin bread, it is Dad's favorite. But like the soup Nazi says, no bread for Basil. That was one when I was well, I couldn't even get as it has chocolate. F & S, doesn't Mama Martha have lots of pumpkins, or did Irene take them all? Everyone have a great weekend.
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • What gorgeous color you get out there in the Fall! California isn't quite as lucky but we are looking forward to cooler temps :)
