Relief for Sharkey's Bee Stings
Posted by Sharkey
You probably all know by now that Martha keeps honeybees and Franny and I are on pretty good terms with those little creatures. If you respect honeybees and let them go about their business, they won’t bother you. Well, I had an unfortunate experience the other day, with what I thought were honeybees, and now I wish I had kept my distance.
1 Sharkey, why are you looking so sad and miserable?
2 Take a look at my back. Do you see those bumps? I was stung by nasty bees!
3 Now I'm itchy and sore! I just wish I could feel better!
4 I just wanted to make friends with the bees! They didn't have to be so mean.
5 Don't worry, Sharkey. I have an idea that just may help you.
6 Follow me into the woods!
7 Over here! It's a whole patch of jewelweed! On Martha's blog yesterday, she explained how it neutralizes poison ivy and poison oak. Guess what? It's also great for bee stings!
8 Jewelweed? You mean these pretty little orange flowers can do all that?
9 Not the flowers, Sharkey, but the juice inside the jewelweed plant. It's a natural remedy for insect bites. It'll help soothe your back and reduce the swelling. I'll just massage it in.
10 Thank you, dear Franny! I really do feel so much better. You're a real pal!

Hello Ladies,
You are such good pals to one another. It warms my heart to see you helping Sharkey, Franny. Some bees can "be" a real terror. Franny, please keep an eye on Sharkey for us. It is nice that the bees are busy pollinating, but not nice for you girls. You are so smart to know about the jewelweed. My Mom needs to plant some. The nights are cooling down a bit here in Colorado. Our cucumbers are really off their game this year---very bitter. Mom says probably because of our weird weather. Have a great weekend all, and stay away from the bees.
Love & licks,
Basil

Good Morning F & S
Sharkey I feel so bad for you, please stay away from the bees. Did you know that if you get bit by lots of bees at one time it can be deadly!! My crazy brother T-Bone tries to catch the bees. One time he did catch a big wasp and it bit him in the mouth. Boy did he look funny, his face was all swollen and I'm sure it hurt. It didn't teach him a lesson he still tries to bite the bees. Silly dog also tries to catch the Polaris in the pool. That is the automatic pool cleaner and he walks around the pool and stalks it and tries to bite the hose as it comes to the surface. I just sit and watch, he still hasn't been able to catch it and after 8 years you would think he'd give up.
What a beautiful morning here in South Jersey. Too bad mom has to work I'd love to sit out on the deck and read the paper with her while she has her coffee. That is one of my favorite things to do, well maybe we can do that tomorrow.
I can't wait for the weekend Mom ordered a bushel of crabs for tomorrow so we'll be busy cooking and cleaning crab. The kids will be coming over so I'm looking foward to lots of play time. Sunday she is going to can tomatoes so I'm gonna have lots of quality time with mom this weekend
Have a great weekend everyone - be safe.

Awww sweetie pie Sharkey, lately you've been on the medical alert list. Bee stings are no fun for humans so I can't imagine what they feel like for dogs. You're lucky that Franny is such a good pal to take care of you like that.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Dear Sharkey:
After living in the country in Tennessee for many
years, we have found the cure for bee stings and wasp
stings. Just immediately dab a little bleach on the
sting. This will immediately stop the pain, and there
will be no swelling at all. Trust me on this little
hint.

Hi Girl Friends &G.K., OMG, how awful that you got carpenter bee stings on your back Sharkey. I can imagine that felt awful because I got bit once when I was a pup and it hurt a lot. Luckily it didn't swell up and my Mom watched me like a hawk and I was OK. Sharkey, you are so lucky to have such a great sister to take care of you and help you feel better. I wish I could be there to give both of you a big hug and kisses. Franny, that was superb! I'll have to tell my Mom to plant some jewelweeds, too. Sure hope everyone has a terrific weekend! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

Aw, poor Sharkey. Bee stings are the pits and wasps too. Sometimes you don't even know they're around and them wham, they get you and the pain starts. It is great that Franny was paying attention when Martha explained jewelweed yesterday! Be well Sharkey and hugs to both you and Franny. Btw, I had a good time reading some of your earlier blogs yesterday. I went all the way back to 2009. Wow, you too have been really busy writing! Take care. (Hi Laura.)

Ohhh poor Sharkey Sparkey, you poor little pup!
Hope you feel better soon...
I had a German Shepherd when I was young, she got stung in the mouth and her whole face gotten swollen I have been stung one time in my mouth, I put an aspirin on it, and it took the pain away.
have a great weekend...stay well everyone!

..yeah, bees can be bad guys..I got stung in the mouth and a quick trip to the vet and some meds and I was back out on the bee trail..but you frenchies are smaller than me so be careful and always have back-up when dealing with the nasty acting little pollen-spreaders...off to see what my pal Rototiller is up too...maybe she has gotten the red-belly squirrel family up a tree.

Hello ladies, Kirby here.
I guess it goes without saying, “bee” careful out there in the garden. I know that a bee sting isn’t funny, I’ve had lots of them. I used to try to catch them but having a swarm of Yellow Jackets chase me, I’ve changed my mind. Daddy pulled them out of my fur and counted about 22 of them. I still had my winter coat and they couldn’t sting me, just got tangled in my fur. Anything that goes buzz around me really does get my attention now. It’s the weekend; stay safe everyone.
Catch you later, Kirby.
PS I hear bath water running; think I will hide out for a while.

sorry about the be sting Sharky. My frenchie was stung by a bee a couple of years ago, he had an alergic reaction so now we keep medication around all the time in case. His name is Love Bug (reg.name) AKA "Bug" for short. He is Frany's cousin. Frany's dad is Bug's uncle! We got Bug from a breeder in Washington State.
