Motoring in Skylands II

Posted by Francesca

Well, the weather improved during our last trip to Skylands, our home in Maine and Martha thought it would be a good idea to go for a ride in the picnic boat.  Sharkey and I usually run the show, but since Sharkey wasn’t with us, G.K. decided that he was going to be the first mate.  The trouble is, he wanted to do my job, too.  Chows!  Who can figure them?

Can you tell by Martha and Jean's attire what we are about to do?

Yes, that's right! We're headed out to sea. There's Shipmate Bryan waiting at the dock with Martha's Hinckley picnic boat!

This never gets old - such amazing scenery and the breeze is so refreshing!

Sailing the high seas is fun but also requires some skill! I'm honored to be Captain Martha's first mate on this expedition.

As first mate, I'm the officer in charge of the ship's engines and I have some serious authority!

Francesca, as quartermaster you're responsible for the ship's navigation and maintenance of nautical charts and maps.

I am such a fine first mate! Don't you agree?

Why did G.K. just do my job? Is he showing off for Martha?

I mean, has he not heard of the famous Jacques Cousteau? We French aren't strangers to maritime escapades, you know. Plus, I've been boating with Martha for a much longer time!

    woos, Tessa

  • Francesca I can't believe the nerve of that boy taking over your job, you need to put him in his place. Sharkey sorry you missed the boat ride looks like lots of fun. How is the bug bite can we get an update?

My mom use to have a boat but she sold it a few years back. I was never allowed to go on the boat because mom liked to fish and she was worried I'd get in the way.

So today I was up at 4:30!! Maybe by tomorrow mom will be back on schedule. Dad is not a happy camper he was complaining it was too early to get up. It's amazing how much she does before work. Yesterday she was out in the water fountain cutting back the flowers. I went back to bed with Dad I need my beauty rest. In fact I think I'm heading back to bed now I feel a snooze coming on ;)

  • Oh Francesca,
You know us chows. We think we are the best thing since sliced bread so naturally, we want to do it all. GK is just trying to well, shall I say, hog the spotlight. But, he is a kid so go easy on him.
Good job GK. You did a great job. You are getting so big, growing like a weed you are. I hope Franny is doing better. We are having a heatr wave in a lot of states this week so stay cool all my blogger friends. I am planted smack in front of the air conditioner and I intend to stay there till the fall.
    Love ya,
    Maddox

  • Sorry Sharkey, in my last post I said I hope Franny is doing better. I meant I hope you are doing better. Not thinking clearly this morning. Too hot already.
    Love ya,
    Maddox

  • Hello All,
The boating looks very exciting, but a bit scarey to me. Where are your life jackets? Doesn't Mama Martha remember that we Frenchies, swim like bricks and can die? Next time, take the life jackets. Please update me on Sharkey. In Colorado you can get Rocky Mountain Tick Fever and it is deadly I hear. Please be well my dear friend Sharkey. Someone please update us!
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • Francesca, you should be wearing your life jacket. Frenchies are many wonderful things, but natural swimmers they are not. Most Frenchies sink like a stone in the water. Please be safe. Maybe M.S. could whip up a wonderful, nautical stripped life jacket for you. Great project!

  • Ahoy to all,
G.K., you are a most competent first mate. I've been out of the loop the last few days cause Mimi is still weak from a nasty virus.
Sorry to hear about Sharkey. Maddox, you keep cool with all your beautiful fur. Basil, nice to see a post from you buddy. How's Kirby's hot spots? Hey to Rocky, Dudley & Precious.
    Hasta Manana,
    Rebel

  • Hi Girl Friends &G.K., WOW! What a fun ride on Martha's beautiful Hinckley picnic boat up there in Maine! Franny and G.K., you two look so good in these photos and I think you were both having lots of fun!! G.K., in photos #5,9&10 you look exactly like Paw Paw and Maddox-you are so handsome!!! Franny, you look pretty darn cute, also! Sure wish Sharkey was there with you and I hope she is getting better! Sure hope everyone is having a terrific day! Stay cool and healthy! It's pretty cool here being in the upper 50's right now and very cloudy and could rain again. Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • What fun!!! The Jacques Cousteau pups-lagra...too cute!
Love the photos...just seeing your enthusiasm on your sweet faces is adorable. I agree Franny could use a life jacket, but G.K can float with all that fur and Franny can ride on his back ;)

  • yo mates!..a little too cool in my part of the country to go boating today..raining and chilly..but this is the northwest!..but I will be pimping my yak and setting off in the river in front of my house when it warms up...I do wear a life jacket!..those pesky otters make fun of me..but who cares..later fellow water-dogs!

  • Yo ho ho mateys, where's that bottle of Rum? Frannypants, how did you let GK maneuver his way into being 1st mate? GK, I must say you look very handsome sitting in the boat. Poor Sharkey missing out on the fun of a boat ride. Get better sweetie!

  • Hi! Frannie!

Glad to see that Sharkey's back with you! Please send my hellos! And I might introduce myself to GK, who is first mate only because you are the co-captain, Franny. :) Nice to meet you GK, although I've heard a lot about you, you got the looks of a guy like myself...we love a good picnic basket...on land or sea! Glad you're feeling better Sharkey! I've missed you all and "Thanks" Sonya for the warm welcome back! Who the heck is Betsy? Ha! :)

P.S. I hear there's some kind of party tomorrow? With pupcakes!?! Sounds dainty! ;)

  • The boating looks like fun-- it reminds me of Balm Lake in Pinewood, when FirstMama would let us ride on the pontoon boat with the fishing people.
