Being in Maine Without Sharkey

Posted by Francesca

The last time we went to Skylands, Martha thought it best that Sharkey remain back home at the farm.  Sharkey had a bug bite that she scratched too much and developed a rash on her neck.  Because we were concerned, G.K. and I licked her rash, but that just made things worse.  How were we to know?  So, Sharkey stayed home with the housekeeper and we really missed her up in Maine.

Francesca - I know you're sad that Sharkey couldn't come to Skylands, but I think you should stop moping around.

What? Is it so obvious that I'm sad?

I have an idea that may cheer you up. Let's go to the beach!

G.K. - This was a very good idea. I love all the salty smells on the beach and I don't even mind that it's raining.

And it's so much fun hopping from rock to rock.

And speaking of rocks, it's always fun to see the piles of stones that people make called cairns. These are usually made to mark trails, but here, they're just for fun.

It's very impressive that the stones stay together like that. You know, G.K., Sharkey really likes cairns and I really wish she were here to see these. I miss her so much.

  • Good Morning - I'm back :)

I'm back all right mom had me up at 3:30!!! She is still on Italy time - I'm not liking this one bit it is still dark out!!! She better get her time zone fixed quick.

Sharkey that bug bite sounds nasty, too bad you are missing the trip to Maine. Is Martha making you wear one of those lamp shade things? I hope you feel better soon.

Franny you like going out in the rain? Not me, I have to be picked up and taken outside to do the poopa - hate how it feels on my back and it gets in my eyes.

So while I was away we had some graphic bird kills on the blog - good thing I wasn't here would have gotten my paw smacked for edgy comments ;)

I was so happy to see my mom we were all barking like crazy when she walked in the door. Dad took really good care of us, he even took good care of mom's gardens which made her very happy. She is sitting with me waiting for the sun to come up so she can go pick veggies before she leaves for the office.

Basil it sounds like you are on the mend my friend. Mom printed the picture you sent me and you are one good looking boy.

Well I'm not waiting for the sun to come up to go pick cucumbers I'm going back to bed with dad.

  • I do hope Sharkeys bite will be better, it was kind of you G.K. and Francesca to lick it, you didn't know it could make it worse. Hopefully it was not a tick bite. It is very hot and humid this morning, Kitty doesn't want to spend any time outside, but just now went out and is laying on the deck...no sun at this moment just a bit of drizzling rain...well at least it isn't snow!

  • Hello All,
I am sorry Sharkey is left behind with her bite and not enjoying that great sea air. I hope she is better soon!! I have never been to the ocean. As far as I have gone are the mountains of Colorado. Lake John kind of looks like a small ocean. Those rock things look pretty cool. I would have fun knocking them over. It has been a real hot tamale here. I hate it. How do you guys back East stand the humidity? That is what makes it so unbearable. I better get to napping and enjoying what little coolness there is, now. Have a great Monday all. Glad you are home Zoe. I sure did miss you. I tried to give them heck for that bird stuff. Really untasteful if you ask me.
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • Hi Girl Friends &G.K., I sure miss seeing Sharkey on your blog post this time. I love seeing all three of you as often as possible. What kind of bug bit you, Sharkey? Sure hope it wasn't a tick or a mosquito. You are in my special prayers today-so you get better real soon-OK? Your photos from Maine sure are great and those rock cairns are beautiful! We have been having rain here for 8 days now and it's mostly in the 60's-kind of cold for summertime. Sure hope everyone is happy and healthy today-take care! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO

  • Hey Frannie!

    It's Shoeboy...remember?

Of course nobody's home! Whenever I have something really important to report, either no one's around or it's Sunday and everything's closed...you know how it goes. Sorry you're all alone but remember, I once told you that I was on your side...and I still am. :)

Anyways, I've been taking an extended absence from blogging due to my inherent need to do a little politicking...trying to come up with a natural flea and tic repellent. Pestilence! Famine! God, what next?

Seems as if our country is having a very difficult time with what they are calling a Debt Ceiling. I wonder if you can pee on it? Ha! Some want to raise it and some want to either leave it where it is or lower it...I've got an idea...it probably won't kill fleas but I think (and so do all of the legislators from my home town all the way up to the state level) it's a good idea. They're sending it along but who knows where it will end up? I'm sure it's in a pile of comments and messages gathering gloom.

Bill Clinton said that all of the money that is given by private citizens; our nickles, dimes, quarters and dollars, add up to be more money than all of the corporate donations combined! This statement of his was one of the underpinning messages that helped form his idea for the Clinton Global Initiative. He spoke all about it on your moms show one day. I was impressed!

Anyway, what we don't have is a piece of legislation in place that would make it possible for us to give money to bail ourselves out of this financial disaster...and also go ahead and start paying back some of the debt that unfortunately our children and grandchildren in the future will be forced to pay back...that is if they're not all on respirators by then! Not kidding!

For example, if Warren Buffet, the richest man in the world, wanted to give, say, several billion dollars to help relieve this crisis in Washington right now, their is no legal procedure for him too do so. Nor is their a legal procedure for us to give our nickles, dimes, quarters, dollars, etc, that would surely mount up to an amount larger than Buffets...at least that is what Bill Clinton understands and I believe he is right!

I'm not a rich dog but public radio has just been cut $500,000 and I was thinking about sending them $5.00. I would rather send it to Washington! I think about Japan...we sent money didn't we? I think about each and every disaster past, present and future...we will, have, and did send money. Well, "we" are in a crisis right now and there is no way to bail ourselves out of it! Yet there's a quarter on the floor next to me! And what about all those pennies laying silently in cups on the counter every convenient store in America? How much would all that add up to?

My idea, funny as it may seem, sort of mimics the old classic movie, It's A Wonderful Life...corruption attacks a small town and the towns people, because they were informed and understood how the bad guy took advantage of them, bailed themselves out! Ted Turner I know would give lots! He's one of the best guy I know!

So here's what we need Frannie; we need the opposite of a "Debt Ceiling"...we need a "Credit Floor"! We need a piece of legislation passed that would make it possible for every person in this country to give any amount of money to balance that dangling carrot that seems to be in front of all of our faces...and we need it now! And we could call it The Credit Floor Act! I'll start work on my natural flea and tic repellent later...:)

Frannie, you know as well as I do that us dogs have been put here to comfort the humans. It's seems to be getting harder and harder to do that. The humans are very stressed out!

I hope when you see your mom that you and her can have a heart-to-heart about leaving you alone and all that. But you know, she'd much rather be right there with you at Skylands where she spends the summers but she is very busy working very hard because the good humans are working overtime to save us all.

So be of good cheer and keep your chin up and no matter what, like your mom always says, 'never, never give up and don't ever stop believing in yourself.'

    Love to all, Shoeboy

  • Hi everyone,
Those stone markers are really interesting. Very clever to mark a path that way. Francesca, tell GK to mark a trail for the two of you with doggie treats. Ih yeah, forget that, he will eat them and then you will get lost for sure.
I was up at 5am but did not get a chance to get on the computer till now cause my mom had to go to another city to pick up my uncle. The lady that he lives with doesn't like to drive so my mom gets him every year and takes him to his annual vet appointment. I went along for the ride. He will be an overnight guest so guess what he is getting, a bath. I love it when someone else gets one.
Glad you are back online Zoe but next time your mom goes away, tell your dad to let you use the computer.
And I am glad your mom is back home safe and sound.
Enjoy the day. I am going to watch my uncle get his bath so I can laugh cause he whines like a little girl, the big baby. Yup, it is going to be a fun day here . hehehehehe
    Love ya,
    Maddox

  • Well I guess the Daily Wag Infirmary is back open again. Poor Sharkey girl, that bug bite sounds bad. It was still very sweet of Franny and GK to try and help even though it made it worse. Are you wearing that lampshade? Don't worry, you still look cute.

Heaven's to Betsy look who's back - SHOEBOY! We've missed you buddy, glad to see you again. Zoe good to see you again. Sounds like your Mom had a fun time.

  • I, too, go to the beach, only the Washington coast, we get to drive on it..so I get to bark at terns, pelicans, seagulls and tourist, and in the winter we find Japanese glass floats..last find was 42 inches around..that was cool..Sharkey will be fine, a little dog slavia can't help but be good combined with modern medicine...hmmm credit floor..sorry..I am a little concerned over the little kids in 3rd world countries with no drinking water, my spare change goes there...also a lot good humans can't work overtime because they don't have jobs ..no fault of their own..humans...strange creatures!!!!

  • Sure hope that Franny gets to feeling better real soon! Enjoy the beach!

    woos, Tessa
