A Visit to the Donkeys on a Really Hot Day

Posted by F&S

We, Frenchies, were walking around the farm the other day when it was especially hot.  We noticed that the donkeys were not out in the paddock, so we went to visit them at the stable and ask how they were doing in all of the heat.

Hello, Donks! Tell us, how are you dealing with all of this heat?

Well, Sharkey Barkey, for starters, Betsy keeps us inside our stall during the hottest part of the day. It's cool and shady and quite comfortable.

Plus, there are wonderful fans blowing on us in here, and nice cool, refreshing water to drink.

Sheesh, You make it sound so deluxe! Maybe we should come in there with you and get out of this unbearable heat.

Not so fast, Sharkey! I hear flies buzzing and that can't be good.

You see? No matter how clean Betsy keeps the stable, flies still manage to buzz around.

Franny, we don't like flies any more than you do. But, where there is livestock, you'll find flies. There's just no way around it.

Yeah, Franny - It's not like we have screens on our doors and windows, like you have up at the house.

Do you know how long a screen would last down here?

  • Good morning Sharkey Barkey & Frannie!
The "Donks" look verrry comfortable in the heat. You gals are looking hot. It's going to be super hot here today & Mimi says that I need to be careful. You Gals be careful this weekend, too. Do you hear fireworks at your house? We do & I don't like it at all. I had to guard the house yesterday, there was something really big in my lake that I had never seen before, Mimi said it was O.K. It was a sailboat!
"Hey" to all my friends. It was good to hear from Rocky yesterday that his Mom is feeling better. I will check in later today to see how buddy Basil is doing as well as Precious.
Are we all going to have hot weather this weekend?

  • Good Morning F & S

I hate those pesky flies and we get the ones with the big green heads that leave a bite mark the size of a quarter!!! Good thing Betsy keeps the stalls clean because those flies just love poop. Mom and Dad are always out with the poop-scoop, mom calls it picking up the "Voorhees Gems" they sure don't look like gems to me.

So what are the plans for the 4th of July weekend? Heading to the Hamptons or Maine? I'm heading to my backyard since I only have one home. Mom is taking off from work today which makes me VERY happy and she plans on doing work in the yard all day. I'll help a little but I much rather watch from my lounge chair.

Basil - good luck with your test today. Rocky glad to hear your mom is doing well and Kirby good job on getting rid of those hot spots. Mom is a bit anxious today we'll find out if there is anything serious going on with Precious.

Have a wonderful 4th of July weekend everyone, be safe!!

    Zoe

  • Good morning girls,
Maybe you can come up with something to keep the flies out of the barn. You two are very clever, I am sure you can come up with an idea to help Betsy.
Well guys, we have lots of good news here. Kirby seems to be on the mend. Rocky's mom is doing well and Basil seems to be holding his own. But Precious has some issues which need to be cleared up and Basil goes to the vet again today so lets all send good thoughts their way. I hope we get good reports for the two of them when we come back after the holiday weekend. Hopefully Mamma Lynn will post something after the vet visit.
Everyone have a safe and happy holiday weekend and stay cool.
    Maddox
PS. Dear God, you know we have Basil and Precious who need your help so God, do your thing.

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
I’m like you, I don’t like flies either. They are always buzzing around my head and trying to bite my ears. And these are those little ones; you have some really big ones around the livestock. The weekend is almost here and this is one weekend I don’t like. There will be a whole lot of “banging” and “booming” going on around. It makes me think that a storm is coming. Fireworks are against the law here; but who obeys the laws anymore. Someone tried to get into Mommy’s car and the police told her that there was nothing that can be done because, “It’s parked on a public street.” I say just let me at the guy. Have a good safe weekend all.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hello Ladies,
I wish I was there on the farm with you gals visiting the donkeys and everyone, instead of going in soon for my endoscopy. It looks like fun just to wander around the farm and visit and get treats. Well a guy can dream can't he? Yep, today is the big day. Mom says that my endoscopy is between 12 and 1 and then we will have some answers. I made her promise me that she will post to all of you soon as she knows anything. I am not ready to throw in the towel and things yet. I might have the fight of my life, but do remember, I am Basil, one handsome dude. Mom and I slept on the couch last night, so Dad could sleep. I slept better too. I am signing off now, but not good bye, just see you soon. Keep those prayers going for me. I know it's all your talks to God that are helping.
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • Hi guys rocky here, I don't like the flies either. Mom tries to keep outside picked up but they always find what she missed!Good luck today basil! I hope precious is better! • Psst hey ladies I think the Donks are really hanging out having Summer parties in the barn and that's a fake fly they put there to keep you two away.

Can't believe that it's the 4th of July weekend already. Many of our blogger friends are under the weather so lets keep good thoughts that they all pull through: Basil, Precious, Kirby Bear please get better. Glad to see that Rocky's Mom Terri is almost fully recovered from her cancer scare. Yay!!!!!

Everyone have a fun, safe, and healthy 4th of July weekend!!!!!

  • Hi Girl Friends &G.K., You sure do have hot summer weather there at the farm, don't ya?! Here it's still cool like spring weather, but it is warming up slowly. I love how well you girls get along with the donkeys who seem to like you, also! They sure are beautiful animals just like all three of you special dogs! Sure hope all of you have a terrific 4th of July weekend and that everyone is healthy, happy, and not afraid of the loud fireworks! Take care everyone and my Mom and I are still praying and asking Dear God to take care of all of you! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • I feel for those Donks and those large pesky flies...they really do hurt! I love those Donks!!

One of my horses colicked once because she was trying to get away from the huge flies, and the more she ran around the more she sweat, the more the flies came.

  • Oh my I sure don't blame either one of you. I hate flies.

The donkeys seem quite happy though.

Have a Safe and HAPPY 4th of July!

    woos, Tessa

  • F & S,
This is Lynn, Basil's Mom, and I am wanting to post about Basil, however, am having trouble receiving the comments. Basil posted Friday morning and it still isn't up. I remember someone on the blog last week having similar problems. I can see no comments. Thought I would let you know so you could help us get things going. Thanks, Lynn

  • I love this! Anything to do with animals just makes my heart sing with joy. Thanks to the Frenchies for sharing their visit to the donks!
