Silly Summer Pooches
Posted by Pia
Summer really brings out the silly in pooches! Whether it's the smells, the sprinkler, the sand, or the swimming, they embrace the season with complete abandon.
1 "ooh sand...ooh sand...." (repeat 100 times)
2 Iggy: "I'll get it! I'll get it! I'll get it!
3 Eva is determined to find buried treasure...or a bone...same thing! Photo by Paul Morse
4 Fala: "What's this? A tomato plant? Basil? A doggie treat plant?"
5 "A the risk of sounding a bit vain, I must say that I do look quite fetching in yellow."
Tiel - Roanoke, Virginia.
6 Maggy and an Atlantic Ghost Crab: "I don't believe I've ever met a dog like you before!"
7 "Could I get the lunch special and a bowl of water...room temp...no ice."
8 Brutus: "I'm really more of a 'lay on the beach' kinda guy, but I'll give it a whirl..."
9 "Me loves me a ball and a day at the beach!"
10 "Yeah...cute, cute, ok, got it... can we hit the waves now?"
11 "Nothing like a dip in nature's pool!" Photo by Paul Morse
12 "Ummm yeah... Clearly this was mom's idea, not mine. Let the record reflect that."
13 Benedict (AKA Big Ben): "1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi...."
14 "Ha ha, I'm a lobster... now get this off!"
15 "Yeah, I know my way around a boat... What? A dog can't have nautical skills... what's up with that?"
16 "Ahhh...a lady of leisure...I knew this was possible one day..."
Let's be sure to take a cue from our canine friends this season. Smell the flowers in the park. Feel the sand under your feet. Fetch shells. Splash in the pool... just be silly!
It is my professional opinion that it is important to be silly. Life can be stressful, and play is healthy. That's why kids spend their formative years engaged in play!
And if anyone asks what you are doing, you can tell them that Dr. Pia prescribed you some Silly. If your human friends don't get it, you can rest assured that your canine ones will. After all, they are often the ones who understand us best. Am I right?
In kinship,
Dr. Pia Salk
P.S. I love seeing photos of your critters. Please send me any you'd like to share, and be sure to let me know if I can use them in future posts!

Good morning Dr. Pia,
I really like the pictures of the dogs having fun. I was at a show in Virgina Beach last year and my mom left me run on the beach. I had a ball. I ran and jumped until I was tired, then I layed down and rolled in the sand. My mom had to spend hours getting the sand out of my coat. As you know, chows have big furry coats. But, she didn't care. She said it was like watching a little boy run in the sand and have fun.

Hello ladies, Kirby here.
And hello to you too Dr. Pia. Summer time means many different things to many people. It’s time for family vacations, travel and just lounging around. It’s a time many families spend together. Don’t forget your pets during this time. Many are left alone for weeks at a time while the family is away. I feel sorry for my two four legged friends who live next door; they are alone for weeks at a time. Sure someone comes by each day to give them food and water. They spend a whole five minutes with them. They miss the family being away. I’m lucky I guess; I get to go when we travel. I’m well loved.
Catch you later, Kirby.

Hello Dr. Pia and Ladies,
I just loved seeing all the friends having a good time. I have been so busy concentrating on being well, that has been my good time. So seeing others having fun is good. I am going to do my best to take your prescription for fun when I am better. Have a good day all!!
Love & licks,
Basil

Hi Dr. Pia, What a fun blog post this one is! The photos are absolutely darling and all of the dogs look like they are having a great summer time! Sure wish it was more summery here, but we are back to the 60's with rain the second day of summer. I agree with your idea that our doggies understand us best. My sweet little Dudley Do Right watches me like a hawk and knows what I'm doing at all times! Hope you are having a wonderful day! Jan
