Planting Hens and Chicks

Posted by F&S

We, Frenchies, saw Shaun and Wilmer planting succulents along the stone paths the other day and it seemed like they needed some help.  Like so many things in this world, gardening comes naturally to us and our help was greatly appreciated.

From my vantage point, this is the perfect spot! The idea is to stagger them. You want them to look as though they've been here all along.

First you clear away the gravel and don't lose any! We'll need it at the end.

Now, to dig a perfect little hole.

And now, just plop this baby right in!

Push back the gravel and Voila! Very nicely done! Be sure to water so the roots can get established.

No, thanks anyway, Wilmer, but Sharkey and I don't want to work for you full time. Feel free, however, to call on us to help with special projects.

  • Good work girls! Frannie, be careful using your mouth to dig.
Good morning everyone. We're up really early today, don't know exactly why, oh, well.
Zoe, I hope your Mom is a little better today, keep up the extra cuddles and kisses for her.
    Great day to you all,
    Rebel

  • Good morning ladies.
Well, aren't you two the helpful ones. That is very nice of you to help Shaun and Wilmer. With all those acres on the farm, I don't blame you for not taking a full time planting job. You would have no time to chase squirrels. That would be terrible if you had to give up that activity.
I am going to go lay down outside for a while before it gets too hot. Later girls.

  • Such helpful Frenchies! so do you dig up the Hens and Chicks in the Fall and replant in the Spring?
Poor Wilmar needs a new pair of gloves, why bother putting on the ones he has....Frenchie girls tell the head gardener to get him a pair. ;)

  • Hello Ladies,
Looks like little brother tends to duck out when planting comes along. Who can blame him however, with his heavy fur coat. You girls certainly are the experts. Job well done. I must say I am actually looking forward to the doc's today. Like I said yesterday, I am not doing too well. Can't breathe a bit. I have to go in for my regular blood work up because of the meds I am on. Dr. Westfall will get me on track, I know. He is the best. Hopefully, tomorrow when I check in, I will be the new and improved Basil Boy. Keep enjoying the summer days.
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • You know what would be really cute? A cover or at least a back cover of a of a 'Martha Stewart Living' gardening issue with the three of you showing off your gardening skills. You could be wearing cute little MSL aprons and holding spades in your paws digging in the dirt. I know it's too late to be included in a print issue but there would be enough time for digital version. Just a thought.

  • Hi girls rocky here, those sure are nice plantings. Mom said next year when she's better we will have flowers. For now dad planted green beans and peas for us i can hardly wait! • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
I just love planting things around my house too. Mommy told me that when I was little, I liked to dig plants up too. It took me just a few days to learn the difference between planting and harvesting. Mommy’s tomatoes are doing real good now. She keeps them in large pots so she can water them daily. When it is near 100 degrees, plants do use a lot of water. Matter of fact, so do I.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hi Girl Friends &G.K., You two girls sure did a great job showing Shaun and Wilmer how to plant those succulents along the stone walkways!! You certainly are talented young ladies and Shaun and Wilmer look so happy with all that you did for them! Now they can do a terrific job while you two go play wherever you want. Sounds like fun to me! Where is G.K. today? Maybe he's out visiting the horses, donkeys or the sheep. He's another talented fellow! Hey Basil, sure hope you do well at the doctor today and that you feel lots better real soon! Hope everyone has a terrific day today! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Woo Hoo looks like you really helped the guy out!

I just loves hens and chicks. Do they like the cold and snow? Or do you have to replant them each year.

    woos, Tessa
