Hayride at the Farm

Posted by Ghenghis Khan

If you were able to watch Martha’s grilling special last Friday night, then you’ll know that hayrides were given around the farm.  We, dogs were asked to go along as the tour guides.  It was a lot of fun.

Are you folks ready to come with us for a hay ride? The more passengers the merrier! Hop on board!

Mike is our driver today and he certainly has the appropriate hat!

I, G.K., will be your guide for the first part of the tour. Now boys, I know I'm fluffy and fun to pet and I do love the attention, but please, concentrate on the scenery!

You'll notice that we're now passing the vegetable garden, where the peas are very plentiful this year. And, yes sir - I do love having my photo taken

If you look straight across this paddock, you'll see the stable and that's where our friends, the donkeys and the horses live. Perhaps we'll visit them if we pass that way.

Oh, yes, a question about the chickens. Martha keeps about 200 chickens and many of them lay fresh eggs every day!

Mike is now driving past the upper field, which has recently been cut for hay. We had a good crop this year.

My turn G.K! Now, if everyone will focus their attention on me - we're now deep in the Japanese maple grove. Isn't it beautiful?

But, not nearly as beautiful as that fat squirrel I just spotted!

Darn, someone is holding onto my harness! I guess that opportunity has passed. Don't laugh! It isn't funny!

Ladies and gentlemen, we hope you've enjoyed the tour of the farm. May I suggest that tipping is appreciated?

What's that? No cash? Do you at least have some dog treats?

  • Good Morning F, S & GK
Wow that looks like lots of fun I've never been on a hayride. Mom has a hayride and bonfire party every fall but I'm not invited. This year I'm going to have to put my paw down and insist I come along.

Is it me or do these weekends just fly by? Seems like Mom just got home from work Friday night and now she is packing up to go back to the office. I think there is something wrong with the clocks in this house I'll have to check them out.

Basil - full report please. How are you feeling, still eating your meatballs? I'm sending you Zoe kisses so pucker up :)

  • What a great idea for the three of you to take people on hayrides around the farm. You need a business manager though. You can start charging for the rides, put a big pail on board and mark it "Tips Mandatory, Cash Preferred" and you are set. You don't need the tourists to give you treats for tips cause Martha gives you treats. Look at all the cash you could make. I don't know about Francesca and Sharkey, but GK, with your share you could send your dear old dad on a nice vacation with part of your profits. I can see it now, Maddox Does Maui. Oh yeah!!!!
How was everyone's weekend? Hope you are doing better Basil and Kirby.
    Enjoy the day.

  • Hello Ladies & G.K.,
It sure was a great special on Friday night. Next to Christmas, we loved this one the most. And now to see you all were such great tour guides. I long for those normal days, but have no fear, the return of Super Basil is in the works. I was strong enough to tour the back yard yesterday. I still am having water spit up incidents, but not so frequent and no blood. I am able to rest a bit longer at naps--maybe an hour at a time. Mom and Dad said the special bubble gum flavored medicine that coats my esophagus and tummy is starting to work and I have a bit more happy looks. I run like you know what when I see that medicine come out. But then it starts to help and I can lay down. I know the real reason I am showing a bit of improvement---Mom and I cried together and she said it is because all my blogger buddies are talking to God. Thanks guys, keep it up. I am trying my darnedest to get strong for whatever is ahead. Kirby are those hot spots getting any better? How do you sleep at night? Mom gets up about 3 times a night with me. She says it reminds her of when she had to get up with my people brother and sister 30 years ago. I am hanging in there guys. It is hard, but I am giving it the fight of my life. Keep on talking to God, I know that helps more than the dumb bubble gum flavored medicine.
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
I think the idea of having hay rides is a great idea. You could make money doing that. Could I have a southern franchise? I can see it now, Hay Rides with your favorite pet. Of course we would have to limit which pet’s we would allow on the rides. I know some people who keep “gators” as a pet in the south. Cat’s would have to be out too; too much of a chance of chasing. I love to chase cats almost as much as squirrels. Get back to me on that idea. I’ll be taking a nap until then.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • You three make great tour guides! I've never done that, except for guiding my humans to the dog food!

  • I really like the idea of 'Hayrides with Franny, Sharkey, & GK.' For a small fee people get to ride with the three of you around the farm, have lunch, and get photos taken. It would make a mint!

Basil buddy, I'm glad to hear that you did better over the weekend and are feeling stronger. Just keep doing what you're doing but don't over do it. Kirby Bear are your hot spots going away? Sending both you and Basil hugs and good thoughts.

  • Hi Girl Friends &G.K., I LOVE this blog post about the three of you guiding the people on the hayride there at Martha's fabulous farm! Each one of you sure did a great job telling all the passengers about the areas of the farm that Mike drove you around! These photos of the three of you are fantastic and you girls look beautiful and G.K. looks so handsome!!! G.K., why didn't you invite your Dad, Maddox to join you there at the farm?! I would love to have been there, too, as would all of us who follow you on The Daily Wag! Dear, Sweet Basil, thank you for such a nice posted comment! Sounds like you are doing better! I am continuing to thank God for watching over you everyday so you can keep getting better! Our thoughts and prayers continue for you and your Mom daily! Love, Dudley Do RightX)X)X)+

  • Hay rides? you've got to get in the pool and do a few laps like me...then spinning. Keeps the body in shape Franny & Sharkey.

Sure hope that your Mom didn't let the 'dogs' get out like at the BBQ at my house last week.

Take a look at theroxiewag.com and you can see for yourselves.

  • Oh what fun...hay rides! I love them and maybe I can come someday and tour the grounds on a hay ride...
