Squirrel in the Styrax Tree

Posted by F&S

We, Frenchies, were chasing one of our squirrels the other day and it ran up a pretty styrax tree outside of the blog studio.  I have to admit that we get carried away when it comes to squirrels and I guess we did a no-no.  Have a look.

Whoa! Sharkey, are you seeing what I'm seeing? I was trying to chew that styrax tree down earlier to get at the squirrel that ran up it.

But now I can't chew anymore because there's a fence all around the trunk.

Can I squeeze my mouth through the fence?

That's not going to work so maybe we can climb up the fence.

Or maybe dig underneath it.

Franny, this fence is causing problems!

And I'm beginning to get frustrated.

What's that, Chirring? You're responsible for this?

You're going to wrap fencing around all of our favorite squirrel trees?

Why would you want to do that? How will we be able to fell the tree and get our squirrel?

Chirring, you don't have to scold us! How were we suppose to know that ripping the bark off a tree is bad?

OK, if you won't let us get the squirrel....

Can I have the bark instead?

Sharkey, did you know that styrax bark has relaxant and sedative properties?

It relieves anxiety, stress, and tension. It's uplifting, soothing, and warming. It restores confidence, dispels anger, diminishes irritability, and clears the head.

Hey, I just had an awful thought!

This is the last piece of styrax bark I'll ever have because of that darn fence!

Franny, try not to think too much about it. I'm sure there are so many other things in life to make you happy.

  • Good Morning Girls

Looks like you really enjoyed chewing on the styrax tree. Have to tell you I never heard of such a tree but it must taste pretty good because you did a good job removing the bark. I'm sure you'll find another bark to take it's place. Oh Francesca can I give you a bit of advice - stay away from the trees or you'll be getting a sudden case of Lymes and get sent off to Boot Camp again. Remember, no head-butts, nipping at lips, no chewing of the styrax tree and stay away from Jude. Now do you think you can remember all that? Sharkey can you please remind your sister of the NO-NO List !!

Well I can tell summer is here mom had out my squirt bottle to mist me down yesterday. She worked in the yard all afternoon and I tried to help but it was way too hot. She took me in the pool for a dip which I wasn't crazy about but I must say it did cool me down.

Have a great Memorial Day weekend everyone!! Stay safe and enjoy :)

  • Girls, girls, girls!!!
You two sure are characters. Try to stay out of trouble. I know it is hard, very hard, but try anyway.
Well friends, I want to remind you that your families will probably be having a picnic this weekend in honot of the service men and women and that will probably include grilling so please stay away from the grill as it is hot and grease can splatter and you could get hurt. Let's all have a safe weekend.
I just love all of you that post on the Daily Wag and I wish we could get together for our own picnic. That would be so neat.
Basil, Kirby, Dudley, Zoe, and all the rest of my blogger friends, have a great weekend.
    Love you GK.

  • Ladies, ladies, ladies, you two are at it again. I love the looks of "but but wha...?" on your faces looking at the trees being blocked off is priceless! I want to see the photos of you two having a pow wow with MommyM over this. How does GK resist chasing squirrels with you two?

The weather rollercoaster continues this weekend. We're going to go from the 50's to the 80's by Sat. but I'll take it. I hope everyone has a great, safe holiday weekend!

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
I don’t have to get bark from a tree; I have a “bark” of my own. I don’t use it very much unless there is a squirrel around. When one runs up a tree I usually just go back into the house. I can’t climb trees and trying to chew one down won’t work. I found that out when just a small puppy. The weekend is here and a long one too. It did rain last night and still is drizzly out this morning; no walking today. Have a good and safe weekend all.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hello Ladies,
Tree trimming with the hands on approach, or should I say the mouth on approach. Looking at Mama Martha's blog you have such a beautiful farm home to explore, you must keep yourselves out of trouble or it is off to the breeder again.Sharkey, Miss Franny seems to be under the spell of the styrax bark. Snap her out of it and you two get with G.K. and have a nice BBQ weekend. As for me, we have lots of gardening and planting and BBQing in store. I must rest today for the busy days ahead. Those fresh garden veggies, I can just taste them. Have a wonderful and safe weekend. I miss some of our old friends that we haven't heard from in awhile. Where is Shoe Boy and Mrs. Bosley Chow Chow? Let us know what is going on in your life. Take care all!!
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • Hi Girl Friends &G.K., You girls kinda got in trouble taking the bark off of that beautiful Styrax tree outside of the blog studio, didn't you?! I realize how much you love to chase and try to get those squirrels, but sort of ruining Martha's beautiful trees is a no-no! Are you sure that bark is ok to chew on? My Mom won't let me chew on any pieces of wood that I find in our yard-she lets me chew on rawhides and treats instead. Franny, I agree with Sharkey that there are many other things in life that will make you happy! Love your photos-you two Frenchies look so beautiful! Sure hope all of you have a wonderful, dry, warm holiday weekend! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+ PS, Please say HI to handsome G.K. for me-miss seeing him again.

  • Hi Franny and Sharkey!

Wow it sure looks like you chewed and clawed that tree good! But still no squirrel? Too bad. Me, I hates squirrels! I never catches them but I don't like them cause they sticks their tongues out at me and tesses me lots!

    Have a Great Weekend!

    woo woos, Tessa

  • Hi Maddox
