Peonies and Rain Don't Mix

Posted by F&S

The other day, between raindrops, we Frenchies picked some amazing tree peonies to decorate the house.  We thought we would go back to the border to gather some more, but there’s one big problem – it’s been raining and oh, so dreary!

They really are spectacular so maybe we should pick some more.

Francesca, it's raining again! Good thing we have these new rain slickers from PetSmart.

The slickers are pretty stylish, no?

Oh-oh! Things look pretty wet at the tree peonies.

Darn! Too much rain on these giant blooms.

And these are really drooping.

Francesca, this was an amazing bloom and the fragrance is heavenly! However, it's turning brown on the edge of the petals.

Too bad, Franny. The rain has really done a number here.

Sharkey, let's go check the herbaceous peony bed and see how they're faring in this dreadful weather.

The grass is so hard to run in. It's so wet and tall! I'm soaked!

Wow! These peonies are just beginning to bloom and look! One of my favorite colors, of course.

Sharkey, most flowers just don't like to get wet and these delicate peonies won't last too long in this rain.

So, if you can hear me up there - rain, rain, go away!!!

  • Hello Ladies,
Oh how dreadful those beautiful Peonies getting soaked. However, you both are quite the fashion statement searching for them. You at least look "divine." Mom and Dad are very worried for our soon to be garden. Here in Colorado we are known to get the garden hailed out of us if you know what I mean. Today and tomorrow it will be rainy here, but then maybe sunshine for the end of the week and weekend. I never thought I would be wishing for the rain to leave, but it brings hail storms and we don't want that. During storms and lightening ladies, take cover, even with those lovely new rain coats. I am wishing for sunshine and lollipup days ahead. LOL!!!
    Love & licks,

  • F & S love the rain slickers - too cute.

As for me I hate going out in the rain I am forced to go out and do my "business" but then I run like a bat out of hell to get back inside. Mom's Peonies are looking the same way - too much rain!! Our vegetable garden isn't looking too good either - we need sunshine to dry out!! Did you hear me mother nature NO MORE RAIN!!! Send it out to Texas I hear they need some rain.

Mom had a nice birthday and I behaved all day, that was my special gift ;) I'm going to help her weed the vegetable garden today that's going to be a project. It seems the weeds just LOVE all this rain and are growing like crazy. My work is never done.

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
Wow, I thought rain slickers only came in yellow. Mine is yellow but I don’t wear it very often. I don’t like to get wet so I stay inside when it is raining. I did get wet yesterday afternoon; bath day for me. Mommy doesn’t know how I know when I’m about to get a bath, but I can always tell. I tried to hide in Daddy’s computer room, but she found me. I kind of like making a game out of everything. When we go for our walk, Daddy holds my collar out and I pass just under it at least two times before I “hit” the mark. Hay, life’s short; enjoy it.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Oh my, what does one do with so many beautiful Peonies?
I love your slickers, fancy schmancy Frenchies!

I will be without a computer for a week, so will catch up here when it comes back...

  • Awww those poor peonies need their own fashionable rain gear like you ladies are sporting. MommyM can't be too happy watching her beautiful flowers slopping away before the summer even begins but you can't fight Mother Nature.

I bet GK stays indoors with all of his fur to think about when its raining. Well the hot weather isn't sticking around. Again. Yesterday was about 80 here in Chicago and today back down to maybe 60 degrees out if we're lucky. Yuck!

  • Hi Girl Friends # G.K., How thoughtful of you to decorate Martha's house with those beautiful peonies! What a terrible time you must have had trying to get some more peonies in that awful rain. I know how you feel about the rain because it rains here even more and I have to go out too many times in the rain. Rain, rain go away and come again only when we need you! Love your new rain slickers from PetSmart! When our camelias bloom every year in early spring, the rain ruins them so we don't get to enjoy them for very long. Guess we'll have to replace them with something else that doesn't bloom until the rain goes away-sigh. Sure hope you have a much drier day today everyone! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Your flowers are beautiful girls. They will look lovely in the house.
    Waa Huu
The sun is out today. Hopefully it will stay out for a while. I am a chow and chows hate getting their feet wet, hate it, hate it, hate it. I do a rain dance when I have to go out and the grass is wet. I hop around all over the place. Oh no, that didn't last long, it went away again. I guess it is time for a nap again. Later,,,,,,,,,,

  • Hi Franny and Sharkey! I thinks it was very nice of yous to pick those peonies for Martha. It is a shame what the rain did to all the flowers. But the rain is good and more flowers will bloom. You'll see.

    woo woos, Tessa

  • Hey there F & S glad to be back with my computer. ;)
Got to share this, when driving from Wisconsin to Nashville Tennessee for a Veterans reunion, we saw an old cemetery along the Highway, and between every headstone they had planted Peonies...I think that was one of the prettiest cemeteries I have ever seen, all those various pink colors made it look amazing, and what a great idea to beautify a place like that.
