Scratch Pads for the Donks!

Posted by Francesca

Maybe you recall last week when Francesca and I wandered down to the stable to visit Betsy.  Betsy, as it turns out, was busy with her chores but had enough time to introduce Franny to a new product she’s trying out called 'Scratch n All'.  Betsy wants to use it in the donkey paddock so the donks can rub against it and satisfy their itches.  Well, when Franny felt it on her back, she went into ecstasy.  Yesterday, we happened upon Betsy and Fernando installing these scratching devices in the donkey’s paddock.  Take a look at this!

Oh, I see! You're finally installing those fantastic scratching pads for the donkeys that we briefly blogged about last week.

Betsy, we're here to help secure those things to the shed and that looks like a great place for them.

OK, Fernando. Hand us the washers and screws - We can handle it from here!

Sharkey! You need to give it more torque!

That's it! Make sure the screws are set in nice and tight because those donks are going to scratch and scratch!

Francesca, we have our work cut out for us. There are more pads to screw in place!

I think four should do it!

Let's cover all the corners of the shed with these things. I can't wait for the donks to discover their new itch relief. We'll even do a blog about it!

  • Oh, I am jealous-- those scratch pads look heavenly!!!!

  • Good Morning F & S

You should have put one more down on the bottom this way you could reach them. When I need a good scratch I just go jump up on mom or dad's lap and start giving kisses - they know the drill. Sophie, that crazy girl, if you have your hand hanging over a chair she'll walk back and forth underneath so you scratch her back, so silly.

I'm very jealous - Martha tweeted that she was giving you bones from her dinner. My mom won't give us any bones except Greenies. She use to give the Lab's beef marrow bones but they would end up fighting over the same bone. Maybe you could post how important it is for mom's to give their Frenchies bones ;)

Wasn't yesterday beautiful? We worked on the pool the water is crystal clear and looks so nice. I spent the afternoon laying on the chase lounge - just wonderful. Today rain :( but I guess we need these April showers to bring all the May flowers.

  • I am glad to see that you girls take great pride in making sure that the other animals at the farm have everything they need. You might want to put some scratch pads on the bottom of that tree where your friend the squirrel lives. Hmmmm. Basil, I hope your tummy is better today. It is raining today. Good day to sleep in. Back to bed for me.

  • Great scratching posts, but seem so low! I mean they are short equine...but hey now they can scratch away!! It does look like they are chewing that corner, maybe this will help stop that.

Well, I put out all my plants Saturday, it became windy with all night Tornado Warnings, from 84 degrees back down to 40's and I hear we will have SNOW again! I can't bring in that huge Clivia plant again, it's in full bloom and heavy. Oh Spring where are you!

  • Hello Ladies,
You both are so good to all your friends on the farm. Seeing the donks have scratch pads is the best. You need to have Betsy install some near your beds for that extra massage when Mama Martha is traveling. Well the tummy thing didn't end up so good yesterday. I had to go to the emergency at my doc's last night and Mom and Dad were there for about 5 hours with me. They new I just couldn't stop vomiting without some anti-nausea shots and hydration. Plus I had been without all my regular meds for 3 days and the doc gave that to me by shot also so I could breathe. What a mess, but thank goodness Mom is a worrier and knew I needed help. No more of that new medicine to help my medical issues. It made me very thankful for my family that loves me and takes good care of me, because there was a young couple there crying because they were relinquishing there ownership rights to a dog because they could no longer afford him. Mom and Dad joke that I am their Bentley. LOL!! Well you gotta love me any way you look at it and feel for those guys like the one that didn't get to go home last night. I'm glad for all of us and Dr. Pia and Martha helping others. Have a great Tuesday all, I'm back to bed for a long spring nap.
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • It's definitely donkey time at the farm. I saw over on your Mom's blog how the donk's had their shed painted before these scratch pads were installed. I agree with Zoe that you should put one a little lower so you three could reach it as well. Hmmm...next project, your own scratchin' posts scattered around the farm.

Basil I hope your tummy is feeling better. You take it easy big boy. Everyone have a happy day.

  • Hi Girl Friends &G.K., What a wonderful blog post you did again! I wouldn't mind having some of those scratch pads inside the house and outside 'cause having a place to get scratching is very special. You girls sure did a great job attaching those scratch pads to the corners of the donkey's shed and I'll bet the donkeys are thrilled! Betsy and Fernando sure enjoyed your help again. I know the donkeys will be very happy-will you show us more photos about them using the scratch pads?! Say hi to G.K. for me and Basil, I sure hope you feel better today! Have a wonderful day everyone! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • I want one!

    I want one!

Do you ever get one of those itches that are hard to reach! What a t-rif idea!

A future blog should showcase the donks in action!
