New Evidence of a Rodent

Posted by Sharkey

Franny and I were in our blog studio, editing some recent photos, when I got up to stretch and look outside.  I was very interested to notice that after we entered the studio, something had made some changes to the door stoop outside.  This is a farm, after all, and there are critters galore!

Here I am in the blog studio looking at a new bit of a mess on one side of the stoop.

Look at that! It's a pile of sunflower seed hulls. The seeds were no doubt pilfered from the bird feeding area!

And look at this on the other side of the stoop! Yuck! Small animal droppings! I smell a rat, or perhaps another type of rodent.

Well, looky, looky here! The guilty party is a chipmunk. I would so like to pounce, but I'm in here and its out there.

I wonder why its just sitting there? Maybe chipmunks like to bask in the sun, too.

Whoa! I suppose that now little Chippy knows I'm watching! Chipmunks are shrewd little creatures and they're faster than squirrels.

I suppose he escaped to his little burrow under the stoop. Martha's not so happy that they live under there, but there's not much that anyone can do. Bad tenants are difficult to deal with.

Especially whey you're stuck indoors with a heavy glass storm door in your way!

  • This would make a good episode of PSI: Paw Scene Investigation. You have key pieces of evidence and the squirrley little chipmunk mocking you Sharkey. Send Detective GK in with a search warrant and bring the little bugger in! PSI Francesca can interrogate him/her and get a DNA sample. Remember, the evidence doesn't lie!

  • Good Morning F & S

Sharkey I have those chipmunks running all over our yard they make me crazy!! I sit at the window and watch the little suckers fill their cheeks with birdseed. Their faces look like they are going to explode sometimes it's amazing how much food they stuff in those cheeks. My mom agrees with Martha, they are unwelcome tenants. We have a waterfall going into the pool and they dig holes all through the rock, mom gets really mad because they can cause so much damage. Here's a tip - take some dog poop and push it down the chipmunk holes - mom says it works, they won't come back through that hole. This is also what she does when Sophie decides to dig a hole, fills it with poop - she won't go back to that spot.

I think today I'm going to relax by the pool. Mom picked up some new cushions for the chase lounges and I must say they are very comfy. Precious and I do enjoy catching some rays :)

  • The chipmunk looks like he wants to play with you Sharkey. Next time, invite him in the house so he can meet Martha amd Francesca and GK. I am so smart. I escaped yet another day without getting a bath. I should write a book on it. However, I am getting what my mom calls "rooster feet" My fur is growing straight out on my feet. I don't know how much longer I can hold out but I am going to try real hard

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
You won’t have that little “fellow” around very long if those cat’s see him/her. Cat’s just love to chase, and catch, anything which is little and can run fast. Sharkey, you should be friends with “Chippy” and watch out for him/her. Those little guys only eat what’s on the ground under the bird feeders. Unlike the squirrels which climb up and raid the bird feeders.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hello Ladies,
Those chipmunks look like fast little devils. I haven't spotted one of them yet. We have about everything else. Thanks for the tips Zoe. I'll remember them. Maddox, the bath thing isn't too bad when you don't have much hair like me. Since I have been sick, I have had to get 2 baths and blow drys. When a boy is sick, everything comes out everywhere and I couldn't smell for guests on Easter. Keep up the chipmuck look out and I think Sonya's idea for a PSI show is a great idea--a new idea for your next production meeting.
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • Hi Girl Friends &G.K. Sharkey, you are amazing! I'm sure it would have been fun if you could have found some way to get outside to chase away that cute little chipmunk who left a mess on that stoop. If you could find some way to get it to go back in the woods, that would be terrific and Martha would be happy to get rid of the mess. As long as there are birdseeds around, that chipmunk will stay there to eat and collect them. It seems like no matter what you do for one kind of animals, another will come around and skrew things up. We have squirrels, raccoons, rats, and even a coyote around our yard. If we feed the birds, oops, what a mess results on our patios, driveway or garden areas, also. Hope you have a great, much cleaner day, today! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Hey Sharkey!
That little chipmunk will sit up and chatter at you, it's really funny.
We have a really big hawk on our lake that helps out with the little critters. But, I saw a vole by the deck and Mom was not happy. Zoe, thanks for the tip! At last a good use for my pooh!
    Later everybody,
    Rebel

  • Sharkey my friend, how nice of you not to bark and scratch at the door when that chippy was sitting there. At this very moment Kitty is sitting and hoovering over a chippy hole, and I keep on going out side and yelling NO! but that just falls on deaf cat ears.

Kitty the other night sneaked into the house and passed my husband, a mouse...for 2 hrs. hubby and Kitty were trying to catch it...what a hoot, neither one of them could...so we had to go to sleep knowing the mouse is in the house, even with the door closed that little sucker came into the bedroom ran across my head...I couldn't believe it...we finally got it to go back outside, that was easier then catching it.

  • Hi Sharkey! I thinks that chipmunk looks a lot like a squirrel. I HATES squirrels! I loves to chase them. Mom says to share the yard but I say the yard is MINE!

Next time you go to your blog studio I say stay outside and be a statue. Then you can chase that nasty ole chipmunk!

    woo woos, Tessa

  • Oh Oh

I think you need to add 'Chipster' to your blog as an occasional contributor!

    gail :)

  • Oh those chipmunks look terribly devious! There were lots of chipmunks where I grew up in Pinewood, and my NewSister Demi loves to chase them, even though she cannot run very fast. But she's sneaky, so those chippers have to stay sharp. I help her sometimes, but I'm more interested in rabbits, squirrels, and small fluffy dogs. And the cat, of course. Last week was my birthday and I got cards and birthday greetings from some of my babies; Athena, Pixie, Topsy Turvy. I did not hear from Raven, but I know how very busy she must be and I understand. First Mama is here visiting right now and she has a new little dog, he's very cute but he is not a Frenchie so I don't have to pretend to be nice to him. He's just a baby and he's got some bad manners that I'd like to deal with-- First Mama says I was always a strict disciplinarian with my babies.

  • Happy Belated Birthday Baby Favor!

  • Thank you Sonya!
