Expressing the unique bond we have with our dogs is not always simple. Over the years people have articulated their love of canines in many eloquent ways. Similarly, people have also captured the uniqueness of this regal species in photos. Since we get such great photo submissions from readers, I thought I'd pair them with some favorite quotes for your reading and viewing pleasure.
"The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him, and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself, too. --Samuel Butler
"The fidelity of a dog is a precious gift demanding no less binding moral responsibilities than the friendship of a human being. The bond with a dog is as lasting as the ties of this earth can ever be." --Konrad Lorenz
"If a dog will not come to you after he has looked you in the face, you ought to go home and examine your conscience.” --Woodrow Wilson
"One of the greatest gifts we receive from dogs is the tenderness they evoke in us." --Dean Koontz
“I love a dog. He does nothing for political reasons.” --Will Rogers
"It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are." --Unknown
"Our dogs will love and admire the meanest of us, and feed our colossal vanity with their uncritical homage." --Agnes Repplier
"It's a wonderful thing to have a companion like that who just wants to sit by you while you work." --Chris Fabry
"Dogs laugh, but they laugh with their tails." --Max Eastman
"A dog is not 'almost human,' and I know of no greater insult to the canine race than to describe it as such." --John Holmes
"One reason a dog can be such a comfort when you're feeling blue is that he doesn't try to find out why. " --Unknown
