Early Signs of Spring
Posted by Sharkey
I have to admit that when I read Francesca’s blogposting from Maryland, I got a little envious. She and her Frenchie hosts, CaraMia and AislinCate, are running around outside without sweaters or coats. Maryland looks kind of warm compared to the farm in Bedford. I decided to put on my warm coat and head outdoors to find some signs of spring. I wasn’t disappointed. Also, I cannot wait for Francesca’s return back home. I heard something about later this week! G.K. and I are very hopeful.
Hooray! It's finally getting warmer! Let's see if I can find any signs of spring today.
Well, this is not good! A pile of snow right off the bat! Good thing it's just a little bit.
But, what do we have here?
The other day, Martha said she was so happy to see snow drops popping up.
And now I understand what she meant! These little white flowers must be what she was talking about. How beautiful and very spring-like!
There's my buddy, Sasa out in the paddock. I should ask him if he's noticed any signs of spring.
Hey there Sasa! Have you noticed anything warmer around here?
Well, hello, my dear Sharkey! I can tell you that the ground under my hooves is thawing! I think that spring is really just around the corner!
Thanks, Sasa! Perhaps Betsy will let you out of the stable without your horse blanket sometime soon. Don't you love the way the sun feels on your bare back?
Now here's a sunny looking bloom. It kind of matches my outfit.
I've heard Martha say that this is witch hazel and it supposed to be in full bloom in late winter or early spring - another good sign!
Did you know that extracts from witch hazel's bark and leaves are used in lotions for treating bruises and insect bites and also in aftershave?
Ah-ha!!! Another sign!
Look at this peony! They're growing now to bloom in late spring.
As usual, Martha's peony garden will be breathtaking! And I can't wait for that!
