What Should we do About Tang on the Stove?

Posted by Francesca

Sharkey and were very surprised the other day whey we spotted that pesky Tang scaling the stove in the kitchen.  We couldn’t imagine what she was up to or why she wanted to be there.  Have a look at these cat acrobatics.

Francesca, what the heck is Tang doing up there!

Look at her scale the stove like she is on a balance beam. Oh, right! Cats are good at things like that!

Why do you suppose she up there, anyway? Perhaps she enjoys having a grand perspective over the kitchen.

Not that there's anything cooking, but she does have a good vantage point for any morsels dropping.

I guess she knows what she's doing since no appliance is turned on.

Egads! Now she's on top of the salamander broiler. What is she thinking?

The gas range is right below and that's not a good place for a landing!

A turn of a knob, a spark from a striker, and we'd be smelling cat hair burning!

Silly Frenchies! I have no desire to be part of a recipe.

The view happens to be spectacular up here.

  • Goodness but aren't Tang and Peony a handful. They must be youngin's since have so much energy. I think these two live to keep you, Sharkey and GK on your paws cute, ornery little furballs that they are.

Rocky it's good to hear that your Mama is doing better.

  • Very cute. And drooling over that kitchen!

  • F & S
Fill a pot with hot water and turn on the stove. Get a broom, knock her into the pot and before you know a Chinese lunch - Tang soup :) One less hairball to deal with ;0

Only kidding, I would never want to see you hurt an animal even if it is a pesky hairball.

Thank goodness we are only getting ice/rain today I can't take much more snow. I am getting lots of use out of my new purple parka and many compliments as well.

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
I’ve heard about “Cat on A Hot Tin Roof” but not a cat on top of a stove. I’ll bet GK had something to do with this. You know that cats are for chasing. My Mommy says that cats are good for other things but I haven’t found any of those as of yet. I mean, they just lay around all day, lick their bodies, eat until they are full, and leave traces of hair all around the house. Wait a minute here; that sort of describes me. As I was saying, it rained last night with a little thunder mixed in for good measure. I’ll have to catch up on my sleep today. Speaking of which; nap time.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hello Ladies,
I can't believe Tang is up on top of things in the kitchen. What I really can't believe is that Mama Martha allows the cats everywhere (yuk--cat hair in food). You girls must have a chat with Mama and explain that you get confined to the kitchen, why doesn't she let you wander the house? You don't get things yuk with cat hair. We are only 6 below zero, but just a few inches of snow on the ground. Wish we had more snow and less cold. Keep warm!!
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • Hi Francesca and Tang: Looks like Tang is real athletic with all that balancing and jumping. She appears to be very careful about where she is going. Tang, please be careful and don't climb around there when pots are ablazing!

Well, I have some news. It seems momma and daddy have moles in our yard. Their tunnels are all over the place and momma bought a sound thing that you bury in the ground and it is supposed to scare them off because the sound is very annoying to them. I don't know if it is working and I tried to dig some of them up and then momma reminded me that if I continue digging, she will feed me some of the mole-asses that she has in a jar in the frig. Can you imagine such a thing?? I was only trying to help! I don't think they would taste very good. Do you????

It is raining here on the east part of NC and is snowing everywhere else. I liked the snow but, oh well it figures. Everyone stay warm and safe.

Time for a nap and a snack (no mole-asses). Take care. See ya later. Love, Gracyn.

  • Hi Girl Friends &G.K., Your photos today are sure fun to look at! You girls sure are doing a great job trying to protect Martha's beautiful kitchen! I'm sure that you are aware that cats are very curious and love to climb above where you girls are. They sort of think that they are the superior animals and can do whatever they want to. Well, as soon as a person comes into the kitchen, I'm pretty sure Tang will climb down because she knows better than to be up there when the stove is turned on. Have a great day and stay warm!! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Eeegads!!! :( Tang, Tang, Tang what can I say!...cute photos though..

  • Lady and Pinkie enjoy seeing Tang and Princess Peony ruling the roast over F&S. Every morning we check the Blog and they read next to me about new adventures. Lady is calico princess along with her daughter a princess calico as well. Calicos naturally rule the kitchen.

  • GROSS...what about the cat hair in your food? Would never allow my cat to do this! Brush, dust & vacuum enough as it is....don't need to add to my cores w/ extra appliance cleaning because of a cat being where they should not be!

  • It's nice to know that not even Martha can keep her cats from climbing all over the kitchen!

  • @Basil, Come to Chicago Basil. We are under a deluge of snow. 20+ inches and still falling. Stay warm in CO.

  • Hi! Years ago, a cat we used to have just loved the warmth of the stove. Bobo used to jump on the stove all the time... until...
he leaped onto it while the electric burner was just turned off and the pan removed. OUCH ~ poor thing had severe burns on his front paws and had to have his feet treated and wrapped for weeks.
A lesson learned! Lucky for Tang, the stove is gas!
I had a snow day today and really enjoyed your programs on the Hallmark channel! What a treat!

  • Hasn't HuMom been cooking anything lately? Maybe the kitchen should be off limits to cats...make it a dog only zone LOL The battery operated compressed air/noise making can thingies are excellent at shooing a cat away. Just be sure to remove it before turning on the heat or Kabooom! On another topics, did you hear I'm getting married Feb 12th...giving up total dog bachelorhood for charity.

  • Perhaps you could recommend an extra large custom stainless steel burner cover/top for your mum to put in place whilst the stove is not in use. You may also think about a beautiful butcher block/bamboo/matching marble top(see the TV set). It may keep the burners a but more free of animal hairs.
