Minnow has a new BFF!
This past weekend I had the good fortune to visit with some great old friends in Atlanta, where I lived once upon a time. My Minnow finally met the fabulous 3-legged Ms. Boots Malloy, and what a wonderful hostess she was! Of course, we snapped pictures all weekend to share with my DW buddies.
1 Boots: "Minnow! Welcome. I've been so eager to meet you! You are such a little thing!" Minnow: "Boots! I've heard such great things about you and your 3 legs! You are an inspiration to all of us Chi's!"
4 Phoebe and Jackie got Ms. Boots Malloy through their favorite rescue group, Atlanta Pet Rescue and Adoption.(See link at end of post.)
5 As you can see, they are huge adoption advocates and have a wonderful family of critters as a result!
7 The very gentlemanly Conner was previously adopted and then returned to the shelter because his new person felt he was "too calm!" Apparently they just wanted a guard dog, while Conner here wanted a family to call his own.
8 Thankfully Phoebe and Jackie stepped up and offered Connor another chance. Now he is part of the family of his dreams!
9 Connor and this playful redhead, Nellie, fell in love immediately. They roll on the floor together and cuddle for hours each night.
10 PB and J adopted Nellie when her time at the shelter had run out. They decided to name her Nellie Oleson after the character in Little House on the Prairie.
11 Minnow and Boots had so much fun together. The first night we were there they stayed up late planning what to do.
14 While Minnow loved Boots's crown, she settled on a more understated version. After all, she did not want to steal the spotlight from her gracious hostess.
15 They tried on various outfits as Chis are wont to do. Boots: "Minnow, does this sweatshirt make me look fat?"
18 Only occasionally would Boots and Minnow stop chatting to acknowledge Boots's other rescued siblings who tirelessly tried to get the attention of the Chi girls.
20 Sweet Mr. Teddy here is the house elder and is too wise to need others to keep himself entertained. This pink stuffed mouse will do just fine!
24 Even though Jackie and Phoebe have whimsical stuff like this around, everyone is considered a good critter in their household!
32 And then there were tributes to some special Chis that had passed on. This was Josie. What a love!
45 But sometimes just relaxing in a sunny window and taking in the sights is all a pooch really wants!
Oh what a fun time we had! There's really nothing like friends in this world -- those with fur and those without, not to mention those with fins, feathers, scales, etc.
Minnow and I send out a huge thank you to Boots, PB and J, et al. We had a truly wonderful time and feel fortunate to have such amazing, compassionate friends.
In kinship,
Dr. Pia Salk

Hello Dr. Pia,
Your blog today was just what the doctor ordered to perk me up. It looks like you and Minnow had such a great trip. What great friends and fun you had I know.As for me I am a little down in the dumps because I was watching the Martha Show with Mom yesterday, and Martha said she sent Francesca back to the breeder for something because of the head butt incident. We saw you Sharkey and G.K. both looking mighty happy on the citrus show, but I was very frightened for our Franny. I know you didn't mean to hurt Mama Martha Franny. Sometimes I get scared when I am awakened suddenly and I know that is what happened to you. If anyone knows what is going on with Franny, please tell a very worried Basil. I want Franny to be happy like you and Minnow, Dr. Pia and come back to her Waggers.
Love & licks & worries today,
Basil

Hello ladies, Kirby here.
And hello to you too Dr. Pia. I saw a short story in the local news a few days ago. It said that 300,000 dogs and cats were “put down” each year in South Carolina. And this is all because of pet owners who will not take action to prevent this. It’s easy to see how this happens; just look at some of the children these “pet owners” raise. Having a pet means that you are going to have to do things which is best for the pet and may not be what you think is best. OK, I’ll get off of my soap box. I saw GK on Mommy Martha’s Show yesterday. He “mooned” the whole world and then he turned to the camera and just gave that Chow Chow impish smile; trust me, he was laughing.
Catch you later, Kirby.

Hi Dr. Pia, I can't thank you enough for this special, wonderful blog posting about sweet little Minnow and her terrific new friends! These photos are superb and so much fun to look at over and over again! All of the dogs in this posting and the beautiful kitty are so lucky to have such loving, caring parents!!!!! It makes me so happy to see how calm and happy they all look! These photos of Minnow once again look very similar to my loveable Dudley Do Right. He is a bit bigger and three parts-Chi, Pom and Boston Terrier. Thanks so much for sharing! Jan

Oh,my! Frenchies! How cute that they have their own blog. Do you know why some men have dogs instead of wives? Because the later they are, the more excited we are to see you. Tee Hee.
