Meet My Dad, Maddox

Posted by Ghenghis Khan

As many of you know, the prestigious Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show was held last week in Manhattan.  You may remember my grandfather, Paw Paw, who was a champion in his own rite.  Well, his son, Maddox, who is also my father, made us all proud by winning Best of Breed.  I come from a great lineage and my time will arrive!

  • Hi Girl Friends &G.K., WOW! G.K., your father, Maddox is very handsome just like you and Paw Paw! You are the best Chow Chows I've ever seen and the more photos I see of you, the more I would love to meet you and play with you and your sisters!!! The Westminster Dog Show was spectacular this year and I remember hearing David Frei mention Maddox and Martha! These photos are sure fun to look at over and over again. Can't wait to see you at the Westminster Dog Show-that's going to be fantastic! Thanks for sharing this blog post. Have a great day everyone and stay warm. Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • So are you in training for the big event GK? What about your expeditions? So much to discover out there young in' Actually I know that all three of you come from championship stock. Sharkey's dad GP, Francesca's sister Baby Favor. Your Pop Maddox sure is a handsome Chow but I'm still amazed how much you look like Grandad Paw Paw.

I think a family reunion blog is due. BTW, when will it be official and your photo is added to the Daily Wag?

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
Hello to you too GK. There are dog shows and then there are Dog Shows; Westminster being one of the best. Winning “Best of Breed” in a show that big is really something. I’ll bet you are proud of your father; just as much as your great grandfather. I’m not a show dog but I do “show off” sometimes. Just give me a walk in the park and I’ll really grab the attention. In all of my travels in the past nine years, I have only seen one other Chow Chow. When my Daddy went into the military over 50 years ago, he left behind his best friend; a forty pound black dog. It has taken Daddy all this time to find his best friend ever; me. That is better than “Best of Breed” to me any day. I’m sure that there are a lot of “Best of Breed” buddies out there too.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Good morning all - don't know what so good about it more snow :( Mom was out there at 5 am shoveling a path so I could get out there and do my business. I have to say she would not win "Best of Breed" out there in her pj's and slippers with a shovel in hand. Her hair was sticking up like Don King!! Then after she finished I ran and hid so that really ticked her off ;)

G.K. your pop is one good looking Chow. I'm sure we'll be seeing you at the winner's podium in the near future.

Well I'm sure I'll be on the heat vent all day today because I have no plans on going out in that snow.

  • Hello son,
First of all, let me say that I want to thank Martha for taking such good care of you. You look very handsome. I have been reading your blogs and I wanted to post something sooner but I was so busy going to shows that I was not home much. However, I was kept up to date on your status. You have a lot of responsibility on the farm, which is a good thing. And you have two very cute sisters to play with, Francesca and Sharkey. One of my good friends that I met while showing happens to be a Frenchie as well. Her name is Vegas, she loves me. What can I say, we chows are babe magnets.
I also think it is fantastic that humans allow their wonderful pets to post on The Daily Wag. I see there are regulars that post, like Kirby. Dudley, Sonya, to name a few. I hope to get to know all of your friends now that I am retired from active showing. We all have something in common, and that is we love our humans so much. It doesn't matter if we are show dogs or not, we are all a very important part in someone's life and that makes each one of us extra special.
So son, what did you think of my pictures? Everyone is going nuts over me because I won at Westminster so I am taking advantage of it and getting all the extra biscuits I can right now. Stick with me and I will show you the ropes.
    Your dad,
    Maddox

  • He is a true example of how a chow has to appear in type , attitude and size - I love him and congratulations to the breeder & owners !!
Long life to the 'cobby' chows !!!!!!!

  • Hi GK. I am a big fan of your father Maddox. I hope you are as proud of him as I am. I was hoping to see him on Martha's show after his win at Westminsster. If you plan to follow in your father's footsteps, I look forward to seeing you in the showring.

  • Hello G.K. and Ladies,
G.K. what a dad you have. He is impressive. I do not know my parents. Mom and Dad did at one time. Are you in training to replace your father, or are you going to stay the guardian of the farm? Just so you are happy, is all that matters to me. Francesca and Sharkey, I have never seen any photos of your parents. It sounds like you both have champion backgrounds as well. Well, all of you Waggers are champions to old Basil here. I am really glad that your Mom is doing so well Rocky. I know you are taking good care of her and she is probably busy with all the pups too. Thanks for keeping us in the loop. Take care all and happy Tuesday.
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • Congratulations for your winning heritage of a wonderful pedigree...I'm sure you will follow in Maddox paw prints of being a Champion yourself someday. I have no doubts, with your Imperial looks, you positive aristocratic attitude...yep I can see a Champion!

How lucky you are to be owned by MS who can make that a reality as well.

G.K. I wish I could bury my face in your mane and give you a big kiss...ohh Kitty says, she wishes she could give you smooches also. ;)

    Hi Nephew!

My family and I are so proud of your father and looking forward to seeing you in the ring. Paw-Paw was my grandfather too and your mom is my sister so I share your lineage. I am not a show dog (although I look like one and have an attitude ) I am a companion dog and the neighborhood "Queen". I watched the Chow judging with my (human) mom on the computer and was very excited when your dad won!! He looks like a great dad and I hope you follow in his footsteps. We look forward to your future shows and wins.
    Your "Aunt",
    Winnie

  • Hi G.K.
Just wanted to say congratulations to your dad. Way to go, Maddox!! He sure is one handsome fella, and you are definitely a chip off the old block. Do you really plan to enter the show ring? We think you would be spectacular!!

  • Hi G.K.
That was very thoughtful of you to make your blog today about your dad, Maddox. He was so excited about it and for being able to post a comment as well. Now that he has time on his paws, he will post more often.

  • Hi Gheghis,
Congratulation on your dad's win. We saw him compete on TV and even though TV couldn't include all the breeds judging, below is a link for anyone to watch the Chow Chow competition and see your Dad receive his ribbon. Your Dad is my half brother and we share one grandfather so we're still "all in the family". In fact, my middle name, Maddy, was in honor of your Dad cause I look a lot like him and have his fabulous coat and serious good looks but in the female version of course. I am now the companion for a family that lost their favorite Chow mix in 2009 to cancer and I am definitely cheering them up with my puppy antics. My trainer thinks I'd make a great therapy dog because I just love being petted and meeting new people and so my human mom is looking into that now. If I pass the test (and I am smart) I'll let you know.

  • G.K
You should be very proud of your daddy! I think you should have him make an appearance with you on TV. I would love to see it! I am sure you will follow his footsteps. You are a beautiful boy just like your daddy!

  • Hello G.K. I happen to LOVE your father Maddox. I have spent some time with him and he is my favorite Chow of all times. I also own the lovely Vegas your father speaks of. She is very fond of him and it brought her to tears to see him on TV. She said Maddox is just like the slogan they use for WM. THERE'S ONLY ONE. Since she can no longer travel with him, she satisfies her obsession by watching his video nightly on the internet. She told me it would thrill her little frenchie heart to pieces to see both you and Maddox on Martha's show. This way she can DVR it and forever watch her famous man and his son side by side.

  • Hello GK
I know you are as proud of your father as I am. As Maddox's handler is was such an honor to hold the end of his leash. Even though you have BIG shoes to fill, I know you can do it........ When your mom is ready to let you go into the show ring you let me know. It would be a thrill to take you to the TOP just as I did your daddy!! Like father like son.

  • Dear Cousin GK
We send our congratulations to you on your Dad's stellar
win at Westminster. Maddox was magnificent.
Our human was ringside and said it was the best Valentine's gift ever.
Yes, how cool would that be to have you and your Dad, Maddox, together on the show.
The world could see "like father, like son".
    Hugs and kisses
