Hudson Hounds

Posted by Pia

While the recent east coast snow storm derailed my plan to go west for New Year's, it instead led me to explore a super cool dog-friendly town called Hudson, N.Y.!

Apparently the town did a whole art project called the Dogs of Hudson a few years back! This is one of the statues from that project.

Many Hudson locals directed us to visit Animalkind. They are a local cat rescue that helps a great deal with Feral cat issues and TNR (see link to them and to previous blog on this issue)

You can see one of the lucky kitties they've helped in the window. They have a large cageless facility we wanted to see but it was closed :( when we got there.

And it looks like they might have had fun cat stuff to buy to support their work too! I'll have to visit again!

Looks like the locals support AnimalKind's work in various ways- this cool mural was donated!

They had so many compassionate food options! Great vegetarian and vegan choices (they offered gluten free, wheat-free crust too)! We got yummy soup, pizza with soy cheese and even a BBQ sauce pizza!

So the next time any of you find yourselves along the beautiful Hudson river, be sure and check out this groovy little town. There is no shortage of unique doggie souvenirs!

  • Hello Dr. Pia,
And Mark and Adam and the rest of your handsome family. I have never been to New York personally, but Mom was there a few years back and would love to go again. Your place in Hudson is definitely on her list she says. Thank goodness for people like the two of you helping all our animal friends. And Mark to finally put a face with the person behind the Daily Wag. Everyone in your household deserves extra treats for all the hard work you do for us and other friends. Happy New Year and thanks for all your time and hard work.
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
And Happy New Year to you Dr. Pia. It looked like those two dogs were too close to the painter. I guess that the dogs are white with black spots on them. Or is it like the zebra and the other way around? Just a thought. Daddy said that his grandfather had one of those dogs when Daddy was little. He said that the dog was smart. When he pulled on the leash, Daddy would yell, “Heel.” He said that only made the dog pull harder. Now when Daddy tells me something I obey. (If you believe that I have a bridge I want to sell. Daddy)
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hey Basil,
It's not Mark who makes our voices sing. You must really thank Laura and Eliad for that. Mark is Dr. Pia's editor.

  • Hi Dr. Pia, Sorry you didn't get to go west during that blizzard, but how great that you went to Hudson, NY and shared all of these great photos of your trip. Hudson and Mark and Adam would be great places to visit with all of the thoughtfulness about animals in that area. SPCA has always been a great place that protects all animals. Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year to you and your babies! Jan

  • Oops - of course! Props to Eliad and Laura for sure. They are amazing translators for F and S - how else would we get to read their thoughts and insights?
    Thanks E and L!
