G.K. The Snow Dog

Posted by Ghenghis Khan

Hey, everyone, G.K. here!  I’ve been reading all of your comments and have taken notice that I have been missed.  Well, it’s a little hard stealing the limelight from Francesca and Sharkey, but, sometimes, like today, I succeed.  I thought you’d like to know a bit of history about Chow Chows.  Did you know that my breed is one of the oldest known breed of dogs?  China is credited as our place of origin, but some historians believe that Chows may have first appeared in the Arctic Circle and then travelled down into Mongolia, Siberia, and China.  Needless to say, to survive those harsh climates, we developed an amazing coat.  Chows Chows were appreciated, by man, as working dogs and were used as hunters, retrievers, pointers, and even as sled dogs.  You’ll see from these photos that I really love the snow!

The snow has stopped falling and the sun is shining brightly. I'm just bursting with energy to get outside and run!

As you can see, I am no longer a wee little pup!

I have grown strong and brave and I am quite curious.

And just as fast - I'm off, again!

Chow Chows were once revered as the great imperial guard dogs to the grandest emperors of China. We can be fierce, when needed!

Any foe would be foolish to challenge my speed in this climate - the cold makes me even more invigorated.

I can glide through the snow with little effort. It's little wonder that Chows were once used as sled dogs. Attach a sled - I won't mind!

I could run for hours! Catch me if you can! No one has yet!

  • Now this blog post was worth the wait GK. You look like you're having the time of your life running free and happy. I love how these photos make it seem like you're flying through the air. From the looks of these photos, it looks like you are chasing MommyMartha, Franny, and Sharkey in the Kawasaki. She said you couldn't wait to get out and play.

How much fun you, Kirby Bear, and Mrs. Bosley Chow Chow would have romping around on a snow play date.

  • G.K. you look MARVELOUS!!!!! I have watched you grow through Martha's blogs and you are a very handsome dog!! Frannie and Sharkey are gorgeous also!! You look like you are having so much fun in the snow!! Keep arm today as the temperature drops!!

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
OK GK you made the grade. You have your own “post” today. I know just how you feel about the snow. I just love to run and jump in that cold white stuff. I’ll bet you and I could make a good team and pull a sled. Daddy said that a team of Chow Chows ran in the Iditarod one year. They didn’t win, but they finished the, almost 1500 mile, race. GK, you can see my pictures of me in the snow on Facebook. Just look for my picture; you’ll find my page. Not a good weekend. Someone got into my house and I wasn’t here to stop them. Dang, Dang and double Dang but I’m looking for them.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • G.K., you're quite a regal guy! You're what I call a "dog's dog", being so handsome and adept at so many pursuits! Francesca and Sharkey are lucky to have you as an escort (just don't tell them the part about not minding to be attached to a sled...you'll end up pulling them around the farm for the rest of your life). High fives! Bye!

  • Hello G.K. & Ladies,
Nice of you G.K. to let the ladies stay in and keep warm and you can fly in the snow. That's what it looks like--you are flying. What fun you must be having. I do believe that you, Kirby Bear and Mrs. Bosley Chow Chow (of whom I haven't heard from recently & I miss her) could have a grand snow day together. Have a great day. I wish we were getting some snow in town and not just the mountains in Colorado.
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • P.S. Sorry Kirby Bear about the break in. I know you could have protected things, but they might have hurt you. I am glad you are o.k. Basil

  • Gk Melly here, like I would let rocky near the computer with you on!Omg you come from China like me!! Although in the end China wasn't the best place to be a Shih tzu! But the british saved us! Gk I have waited and I knew you would come back . You are even more beautiful than I remember! No babies yet. They will be my great grand kids , but I'm not too old for you ! What I could teach you! Love you Gk, Melly . Also any help with puppy names Maybe mommy could use all your names and have a daily wag litter!

  • GK I love your doggie smile and happy pranks. You are definitely a snow dog....all that energy! Can you live with me and be my doggie pillow? You are so cuddly, but wait....I see you can hold your own pretty well with F and S, your roommates.

  • Hi Girl Friends &G.K., Hey G.K., how wonderful it is to see your handsome self again! I have missed you terribly and love seeing all three of you every day if possible! I know that Chow Chow's are terrific canines and you are a perfect example of them, just like wonderful Paw Paw!! Seeing you running, hopping and enjoying the snow there at the farm sure is fun! It's easy to tell how much fun you are having by your delightful smile! Now that my Mom has an iPad, she said she would love to see a video of you playing in the snow! I'd love to see it, too! You continue to have fun in the snow and tell the girls to stay warm! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+ PS- Hey Kirby Bear, sure hope you found the creeps who broke into your home. I'm glad you weren't there or you might have been hurt. Take care! DDR

  • You GOOOOOO GK...run boy...WOOO HOOO. I feel your happiness through these pictures. Aren't you just loving every minute of it? WWWWHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEE. Love, Jennifer, the Beagle in S.C.

  • Oh my G.K. do you look like you are having a wonderful time in the snow...you really belong!
My aunt in Germany had a Chow and I remember the story she told me years ago that the Chow name was Chou(sp?) it's actually a Chinese slang for being edible...not only did they use their dogs for hunting but also for the fur and incredibly the Chinese and Mongolians ate the Chow dog meat. She also told me a story about the blue tongue but I can't remember that one(senior moment):(
We know MS has Turkeys and Chickens to eat, but bet she does not include Chou on her menu(just playing with you! ;-)

  • GK, It was good to see you post on the blog again. I haven't seen you for a while. I know, you are extremely busy taking care of the farm for Martha and running through the snow just having a great time. The pictures of you are super. You could be on a poster to advertise some outdoor adventure in the snow. Great photos. Especially where you flying through the air with all four feet off the ground. Keep on playing and enjoying your fabulous life.

  • Gorgeous G.K.! There's nothing like a dog running free in their element.
Starlet would be right there with you, endlessly running and impossible to catch!

  • Wheeee, G.K.! You are having the time of your life out there! You look like you couldn't be happier running in the snow!
