A Welcome Home Soup for Martha

Posted by F&S

If you’ve been following Martha on Twitter, you know that she has been travelling in Columbia and also in Florida.  Finally, she’s coming home and told us that she is craving a homemade vegetable soup.  We, Frenchies, thought it would be nice if that soup was ready and waiting for her, so we got busy.

Francesca - While I appreciate our mission, why, just why, is it that you always get to drive the Kawasaki? Why don't I ever get a turn? Don't you think that you're being just a tad controlling?

Oh, Sharkey - stop your complaining! It's just a short ride to the cold house and look! We're here, already.

It's so nice and warm in here! Hurry and close the door before the tropical plants get chilled.

See how nicely all the vegetables are growing? There is quite a nice variety. Let's see what would be good for the soup.

Franny, this baby spinach is very tender. It can be chiffonaded and added right at the end for a healthy and beautiful green contrast.

And this parsley smells so fragrant. Vegetable soup should always be flavored with aromatic parsley.

I think we should also pick some of this cilantro. It's slightly pungent and is really yummy in soup.

Hey Shaun! Can you show us where the carrots are? Martha specifically asked that carrots be part of the soup.

Oh, I see! The carrots are in this row.

I'll tug a bunch of these Purple Haze carrots out of the ground. Their unusual color should look pretty in the soup.

And now, Shaun - do you suppose you can show me how to pick some baby spinach?

Oh, I see - You just carefully pinch the leaves off from the stems. That's easy!

Thanks for all your help, Shaun! Martha's soup is going to be so delicious and welcoming!

  • Your Momma is always on the go. I bet all of you will be happy when she's back home on the farm with you. I bet she can travel easier knowing that everyone is in such capable hands and that you Frenchies and GK are taking care of the farm for her. Nice to see so much green to contrast this bleak, snowy January. Lucky Shaun gets a slurpy kiss from you Sharkey.

Just call me Sonya Switzerland. I actually don't know anymore than what I was able to post yesterday. So like everyone else, I hope that ultimately Zoe will be back here and that the Daily Wag continues to be the fun playground we all love to hang out in.

  • Hello Ladies,
I don't twitter or facebook, so I didn't know that Mama Martha was traveling yet again. She should be happy that the farm is in such capable hands as you girls. That vegetable soup looks mighty inviting. Mom and I made yummy vegetable/beef soup over the weekend and potatoe/cheese on Monday. It is definitely soup weather here in Colorado with it only 5 degrees outside at the moment. I better get back under the covers in front of the fireplace with that warm, toasty fire a blaze. Have a great Wednesday all!!
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
Home made vegi soup sounds really good; too bad I don’t do the vegetable thing. During our cold spell, complete with snow and ice, Mommy made some soup. Smelled really good but I didn’t want any. Sharkey I know how you feel about getting your turn at driving. Daddy always does the driving in the truck and Mommy sometimes takes me in the car with her. Again, I don’t get my turn at driving. Just wait, one of these days my time will come; your time will come too Sharkey. Nap time again.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Oh Yummy all those fresh veggies! mommie Martha is so lucky...I especially envy for that fresh cilantro.
OK Sharkey I saw you kissing Shaun with that long pink tongue all over his chin, and both of you have your eyes closed...how sweet!

  • Hi Girl Friends &G.K., This is one of the cutest, sweetest blog post you have shared with us! How thoughtful you are to think of making a vegetable soup to welcome Martha back home, again! I'll bet she LOVED it! My Mom always follows Martha on twitter and her fantastic blog every day so we knew she was gone again and returned safely yesterday! How fun it must have been to go into the cold house to get those beautiful veggies for your soup. I've never seen purple haze carrots before, but I'll bet they are good. My favorite photo was the last one on this post! Sharkey, you and Shaun looked so happy and you were so sweet to give him a kiss!! Have a great day and stay warm! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Hi Francesca and Sharkey: Oh boy, hot veggie soup sounds good to me on such a cold day. My momma and daddy love that kind of soup and of course plain old tomato soup too. You two sure do alot on the farm and Miss Martha will be ever so pleased when she tastes the wonderful veggie soup. By the way, where is GK today??? Perhaps he does not yet have the unique cooking skills needed???

Well, the snow is gone, but it sure was fun when momma took me to the back yard and I got to run and run and play in the snow.

Everyone have a great day. I'm going to nap now. Take care. See ya later. Love, Gracyn.

  • Mommy and I were watching the Martha Stewart Show today and saw her boo boo!
A bit of advice...don't try to eat the soup at the same time that she does. We hope that her lip gets better soon.

  • So sorry to hear about your Momma's little accident! I hope the dream interrupted was not a nightmare. Sometimes we need to be awakened but a little more gently! Hope everyone is on the mend and you young ladies are enjoying this snowy, frigid snap from the inside of a nice comfy window. Spring is not far off...
