Adopt a Chance to Win Great Prizes!

I always love it when for-profit companies find creative ways to support the animals in need! Avaak, a video technology company that makes a super cool wireless camera to check on furry loved ones from afar, is encouraging the public to adopt their next companion animal from a shelter! Check out the critters in our gallery - they are only a few of the millions hoping for a place to call home by the holidays. (Please see the end of this post for links to their online profiles.)

In the same way that Avaak makes user-friendly products, Adopt-a-Pet.com is a free online tool that makes it fun and easy to find your next companion animal. Martha found Adopt-a-Pet.com to be well organized and user friendly as well -- that's why she chose them to power the pet search right here on her own site.

As North America's largest non-profit adoption website, Adopt-a-Pet.com offers many ways to help shelter animals. You can even choose the unique "search saver" tool to be alerted immediately when an animal meeting your criteria comes to a shelter near you. Adopt-a-Pet.com keeps searching for your furry friend when you are off doing other stuff!

As big believers in the importance of adoption, Avaak has teamed up with Adopt-a-Pet.com to make adoption even more rewarding. “We’re pleased to partner with Adopt-a-Pet.com and are honored to show support for finding animals a home this holiday season by offering the Vue personal video network as part of the winning prize packages,” says Gioia Messinger, founder and CEO of Avaak, Inc. “An ultimate peace-of-mind tool, the Vue camera can be placed anywhere throughout your home and enables you to check in and see your pet at any time. Whether using it to see your four-legged companions from work or on your smartphone while on the go, new and old pet owners alike will love using this product.”

Adds David Meyer, co-founder and board member of Adopt-a-Pet, “Adopt-A-Pet.com prides itself in finding families for homeless pets year-round, and we hope this contest will boost adoption and overall awareness of pets in need just in time for the holiday season.”

From Nov. 17 till Dec. 15, 2010, anyone who adopts a dog or a cat through Adopt-A-Pet.com’s free online service can enter to win a “New Parent” care package featuring a one-year supply of dog or cat food (sponsored by Purina), a six-month supply of topical flea and tick control treatment for dogs or cats, and Avaak’s award-winning Vue personal video network -- a wireless camera system that provides a way to easily check on pets from any smart phone or Internet connection.

The “Paws” to Give Thanks promotion will reward new “parents” with the dog and cat supplies they’ll need to be successful and responsible owners. The contest is an easy, two-step process. The official contest will run through 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 17. Two lucky grand prize winners and two runners-up will be selected at random and notified via e-mail or telephone.

For official contest rules and more information on entering the “Paws” to Give Thanks promotion, please visit Adopt-A-Pet.com or VueZone.com, as well as the official contest entry page.

A big thanks to Avaak, Purina, Adopt-a-Pet.com and hopefully to many soon to be new adopters!

In kinship,
Dr. Pia Salk

  • I've been thinking about shelter pets and the upcoming holidays. I wish I could wave a wand and they'd all have wonderful homes immediately. Thank you for sharing and caring Dr. Pia.

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
And a good morning to you too Dr. Pia. I just can’t think of being in a shelter. I most likely would loose my mind. I mean, without anyone to love me would be unbearable. Because of their ages, Mommy and Daddy have made arraignments for me if something should happen to them. I know I will not have to go to a shelter. Everyone, who has a pet, should think of the unthinkable and make plans for their pets.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hi Dr. Pia, What a wonderful project Adopt A Pet is providing and hopefully more and more animal lovers will adopt all of those fabulous sweethearts who need loving homes. I will very soon have a young kitty and dog at my home to take care of for my niece who is moving back to the Puget Sound area from Louisiana. She has another kitty and dog to care for until they find a permanent home to keep all four of them safely. Thanks again for all that you do. Jan

  • Dr. Pia,
You're the best. Hopefully many of our friends will get homes this holiday. Mom said they were set up and adopting at Whole Foods yesterday. Great!! Thanks again for all you do.

    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • I pray that all these darling pets will be adopted and have a good forever home...I also pray that the human beings become more responsible with their pets and breeding of them, maybe then we will have a less of a problem.

Thank You Dr.Pia for your Big Heart...
