Clearing and Playing in Leaves

Posted by Sharkey

We don’t know what it’s like where you live, but here at the farm, leaves are falling like crazy.  Francesca and I were outside watching them float down to the ground when I decided to help with the leaf blowing.  Check this out and let me know if you like playing in piles of leaves as much as I do.

Well Francesca, I guess that's why they call it fall!

What happens with all of these fallen leaves?

Well Sharkey, I've seen the guys haul truckloads of leaves up to the compost area. Martha told me that leaves are excellent for creating rich compost for the farm. We try not to waste anything here!

Ah-ha! Chhewang is blowing leaves into piles. I hope he's wearing his ear plugs.

What do you say I have a go with the blower?

Let's see here - this big tube is where the air blows out.

And this handle controls the direction of the tube. Seems easy enough.

And last but not least - ear protection! All set to blow!

Ahh yes - now I get to bask in my soft sunny pile of leaves.

Won't Martha be so proud of me?

Of course and as usual, Franny disappeared as soon as the hard work began.

Now she shows up! Franny, if you want to enjoy this leaf pile, then you should have shared in the labor. Scram!

I didn't think she would really go. Now I'm kind of lonely.

  • Are those new coats you two are sporting? Very lovely. What a way to spend the day just playing in the leaves. Was GK hiding in the leaves somewhere? His coat makes for a great camouflage in the leaves.

Watch out Sharkey or else Franny might just pop up out of leaves and give you a post-Halloween "surprise!".

  • Playing in the leaves looks like more fun than blowing and raking them. Sharkey, maybe Francesca was just cold when she headed inside and didn't want to play. I can hardly wait until Dad and Mom rake our leaves. We have four trees out back that are over 100 years old. All those leaves are great fun to pile into. Where was G.K. when all this hard work was to be done? Please don't tell me he is like the cats--when work is to be done he vanishes. I'm up late because I got to have a little extra meal now as I can't eat after 10 with having my MRI tomorrow. Everyone keep your paws crossed that it all ends well. Have a good day.
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • Good Morning F & S

First of all LOVE the jackets? Can someone at the Daily Wag please tell me where you purchased them - PLEASE!!

We also have lots of leaves falling at our house mom was out there all day Saturday blowing leaves. She wears her ipod and sings - what a sight that is. I'm not big on rolling in the leaves I'd rather lay in the warm grass or deck and catch some rays. I don't understand why people blow the leaves until all the leaves fall - why keep doing it if you still have leaves on the tress. Never could figure that one out - seems like double work to me.

Well I got my payback yesterday for chewing a few books - THE GROOMER!!! I thought that was just cruel she didn't even have it written on the calendar to give me a heads up. That was worse than the silent treatment. I decided to behave yesterday afternoon because I don't like being on the bad side of my mom :( I just hope I can control myself today I see that Dad got his National Geographic delivered yesterday and I just love to look at the pictures. It's Sophie who tells me to chew the book, almost like the Devil made me do it :(

F & S can you send me the link to where you got your jackets. Thanks

    Zoe

  • Basil I just read your blog - good luck with your MRI today. I'll say a prayer everything turns out good.

  • Pssst...Sharkey! I have a great idea how to scare Empress Tang and Princess Peony with a certain leaf blower! Woohoo! How much suction does that baby have? Wanna have a little fun? C'mon!

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
When the leaves begin to fall around here, we usually take a trip. I saw Mommy and Daddy take some cloths out to the car yesterday and they brought it back empty. I don’t think it was a “Goodwill” run because Daddy took his good jacket. When we get back, all the leaves will have fallen. Only have to use the blower, and rake, one time that way. I don’t get to use the blower; too much noise for me. I don’t play in the piles of leaves. I look too much like the leaves and might get picked up with them. Just kidding, Mommy and Daddy think too much of me to do that to me.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hi girls , leaves are great, we bring them in for the babies to play with but they eat them and mom comes around with the broom and we have to start over! Basil ,all the little hooligans in our house have our paws crossed and that's alot of paws!! Your friend Rocky

  • Hi Girl Friends &G.K., Gosh Sharkey, you sure are great at doing lots of hard work there at the farm! I love your jacket, it's very attractive! Once again, you showed us some terrific photos and the weather looks wonderful! It seem like Franny likes to do other kinds of projects on the farm and you like to do the hard work! Which kind does G.K. like to do?! We have lots of leaves here, but because of the torrential rain our leaves get too soggy and are not fun to play in. Have a great day, everyone! And Basil, hope you MRI goes well-my prayers are with you. Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Basil Thinking nothing but wonderful, good thoughts for you that you're MRI goes well today.

  • Personally I love laying in a warm pile of leaves, the crunching sound and the smell sends me back to my childhood in Germany...

Kitty loves to do the same thing, she spends time laying in the woods on the leaves watching the Squirrels chase each other.

Honestly I can't stand the sound of blowers, mowers and trimmers...Really...they send men to the moon but, they can't make a muffler for those items???

Looks like a fun and beautiful day for you sweet pups to play and help gather the leaves.

  • Got leaves?? :)

You bet I do. My house here in NH is surrounded by oak trees.

It takes a team of leaf people to remove all the leaves.

I tell them to 'leaf' me alone while they do the work! hee hee

  • Oh my goodness! What adorable autumn pictures! I wish Gus would look that happy in a jacket :)

  • What a pretty picture of you that is, dear Raven. My new 'sister' Demi's Halloweeen costume was a leaf pattern dress with a pretty orange leaf in her hair. It was very cute and funny. We didn't really get autumn leaves in Myrtle Beach during our stay there, but maybe there will be some to play in while we are in Providence. I saw that your Mom Martha had some time dancing with the Rockettes. Well, guess what? My New Dad works for the Rockettes-- that's why we will be in Providence! Isn't that an interesting coincidence???
