Scaling Parkman Mountain in Maine
Posted by Francesca
If you read Martha’s blog yesterday, then you know we went hiking while we were in Maine. You know that Sharkey and I are avid hikers and we’re trying to get G.K. conditioned as a skilled trekker. And after scaling Parkman Mountain in Acadia National Park, I think the boy has what it takes.
1 I just love the stone cairns marking the trail. They remind me so much of prehistoric Stonehendge.
2 It's really too bad Sharkey wasn't able to hike today. She went and hurt her paw and Martha wanted her to stay home and rest.
3 But where are all the other hikers? Why - I suppose that once again I am the fastest climber!
4 I've made it to the summit and it feels like on sitting on top of the world!
5 You may not know, but Parkman Mountain has an elevation of 941 feet or 287 meters. That's quite a lot of climbing for one little Frenchie!
6 Of course, I had Martha encouraging me every step of the way.
7 In fact, Martha is a very serious hiker and you better not be too slack if you go hiking with her.
8 Martha, I think I'll just climb onto your lap and we can assess G.K.'s performance on this hike.
9 He's not panting too hard, so I guess he's got stamina.
10 I never heard him complain once that he was tired.
11 And so, G.K., I guess you get the hiking seal of approval and you can come again, next time!
