Operating the Cider Press
Posted by Francesca
Finally! It was our turn to use the cider press and make apple cider. Sharkey picked a lot of our favorite varieties of apples and Laura Acuna washed them well. The cider press was ready and waiting and the whole process of cranking and pressing was so much fun.
Sharkey picked a lot of juicy apples so I guess it's time to get the cider press in motion.
Great, Franny! I've got the flywheel already cranking.
It's amazing how effortless it is to turn this flywheel.
So what is actually going on in the grinder box?
Sharkey, it's very impressive to see. You put in the apples and......
and in no time at all, those apples are chopped up! Just don't put anything in there that you don't want chopped.
So, Pete. You seem like an old hand at this. Do I turn this wheel next?
I'll just lower the press screw and apply pressure on the chopped apples.
Look at all that cider, GK! Doesn't it smell great? It even matches the color of your fur.
And won't the chickens be so happy eating all those pressed apples?
Say, Princess Peony - do you want to help us make apple cider?
You've got to be kidding me! I mean, have you ever heard of a cat making cider before? Honestly, you crazy dogs!
