In Search of the Perfect Cider Apple
Posted by Sharkey
Today on Martha’s blog, she posted about making apple cider again. Franny was really interested in the whole process and thought that we should make some cider of our own. I told her that I would pick the apples and wash them. I found my favorite tree and picked a bunch, however, washing them was a bit problematic.
1 I saw some really beautiful apples on the apple espalier the other day. Just a little further down the row.
2 See what I mean? These winesap apples are just gorgeous!
3 They have a really nice fragrance!
4 The texture of a winesap apple is nice and crisp when you bit into it, and it has a pleasantly tart flavor.
5 These are definitely my choice for cider!
6 I think I'll throw in a few green ones, too. Now I'll go to the flower room and wash all the fruit.
7 Oh no! It's Laura Acuna at the sink! I don't want another bath! I haven't been playing with skunks!
8 Phew! Laura is just washing apples.
9 I still have a funny feeling about this.
10 I don't think Laura will notice one bit that I'm not here to help her. I'll just go check on the cider press.

Ahh Sharkey you little trickster, cutting out on Laura just when it's time for the less than fun washing O' the apples.
Those apples look so delicious. Can you three pupsters eat the apples like the horses, donkeys, and chickens?

Sharkey I'm with you girlfriend I hear the word bath or groomer and I'm outta here.
You did a great job apple picking for Martha. Did she give you a taste of the cider as a reward? I never had cider maybe I'll have mom pick me up a bottle next time she is at the farm market. I just love apples so I'm sure I'll love cider.
Raining here this morning, I'm not fond of the rain. Mom has to carry me out to do my business I just hate the feeling of those rain drops on my body.
However even though it's a miserable morning weather wise its a wonderful morning for baseball - Yankees lost
Go Phillies!!!!!!!!

Hmmm a doggie liking Apples? interesting...well I must say those apples look delicious, I went out and bought some apples yesterday, they looked just like yours and being the most expensive I thought they would be the best! Nope...I didn't like them at all, I'm so disappointed cause now I'm stuck...all I want is a nice tart and sweet apple...geesh Sharkey, I should have had you pick them out for me.

Hello Ladies,
What fun this apple pressing looks to be..and the cider, yum!!!! I love the apples. We have a huge apple tree in the front yard. Mom has been making applesauce and apple bread till the cows come home. Whatever that means. We don't have any cows. But Mom keeps saying that expression. Today is the last of the applesauce I do believe. This is the best year ever Mom and Dad say for the apples. That apple press looks really neat. I wish we had our own. But then if we had an orchard like you girls, I suppose we would have one. It looks to be a busy day for me supervising the apple cooking and baking. I better go take a nap now while the going is good.
Love & licks,
Basil

Hello ladies, Kirby here.
I’m with you Sharkey, anything which involves water is best to stay away from. The fact that the apples float makes it hard to wash them. You would be as wet as the apples before you washed half of them. I would let someone else wash them while I took a nap. Chow Chow’s are good at that you know. I’m running a little late today so I have to run; The Martha Show is on now.
Catch you later, Kirby.

Hi Girl Friends &G.K., How fun it must have been to be involved with the making of cider in Martha's new cider press. Sharkey, you did a great job picking those beautiful winesap apples for making more cider. Did you girls get to help use the cider press? That looks pretty hard to do, but if you both stood on a big stool you probably could have done it. Did you taste any of the cider and different apples? I love apples. Your blog was as much fun as Martha's, today. Thanks for sharing! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+
